[Music] hi everyone welcome back to my channel I'm Sarah pavin and I'm Adam and today we're watching part three of your name the grand finale I I don't even know I like to throw out a good prediction but I I have have I have no idea the storytelling has just been so creative and I'm curious how connected to like Japanese mythology is the wrong word but culture or tradition tradition yeah so you know given my lack of knowledge around that I have a no idea what's going to happen my instinct and I
don't want to be right on this my instinct is that I'm going to end up real sad that's somewhat powerful the course for you no I'm emotional I'm a feeler I'm a crier but I cry even if I'm not sad I'll cry when I'm happy got it okay so I just I feel like this is going to leave me feeling really sad I hope I'm wrong but we laugh left last episode with Taki going to the underworld um he was Tethered to the present with his braided cord or like mea's hair tie did you get the feeling that that was ti
ed to her umbilical cord or am I imagining that we got a full scope of her life but I'm not okay I I don't know the chord kind of maybe I'm missing that or maybe it just like ties to her Essence which started okay in utero um so we love with that we saw him at mitsuha's entire history kind of played out so I think he understands more about her life kind of a sad story though very sad the dad was heartbroken yeah had wanted nothing to do with the tradition or the shrine I'm not I'm not sure I can
blame him for that but to abandon your daughters like that yeah that part's not great um so we'll see what happens we are holding on to every ounce of hope that Taki and mitua will be connected no they are connected that they'll find each other yes tomato tomato no you're right that they will find each other because they are you're right they are connected so we're on the home stretch here we're finishing your name today hope to we're hoping for some Feelgood moments because I've been in the de
pths of Despair here especially in part two so here we go I'm putting out Good Vibes these two souls are going to find each other and then we can all be happy agreed all right here we go part three of your name is coming right now she's back she knows he's looking for her or it's him it's him he can save her oh [Music] he can stop her from going to the festival I knew she knew family thing fore fore she's not going to change anything no even if he even if Taki tries to get everybody out of there
nobody Len like Destiny it's meant to be I feel like they're all just going to stay do you think he can get her far enough away that she can't get back or can he not mess with the timeline part of me feels like he can't mess with the timeline and she's meant to die I don't want that to be true though foreign speech foreign foree fore [Applause] [Music] foree foree spee spee spee speech fore [Music] speee [Music] [Music] fore speech spe [Music] [Music] [Music] foree [Music] they're going to save
everybody do you think it's a good plan so they're just rewriting history could be do you act no but do you think that that's what's going to happen I think the adults are going to have a tough time buying in but I think they're going to try I think they're going to give it a bomb scare they're going to blow something up have an emergency evacuation so nobody's going to believe them about the comet but they're going to make like some excuse to evacuate but I feel like two different time like ti
mes are existing in parallel and then if you mess mess up one that'll offset the other yeah I mean that's generally how it works I think but I'm know yes that's generally how it works that comes from all of my Star Trek knowledge oh got it I thought you were a secret astrophysicist [Music] no fore [Music] for there's that talky temper [Music] speee foree fore yesterday to [Music] for foreign spee oh my go [Music] [Music] she went to Tokyo though yes so I wonder if she found him but then why did
she wake up again in her bed yeah I don't think she found him I bet she went to look for him I agree with you I need to know what happened there but also if she goes into the underworld and meets him there what does that mean I don't know are he going to bring them both back or will they be trapped there or will they rewrite history without consequence or the opportunity the it's endless there's a lot of ways this could go I'm anxious but is like is she in his body right now as he's passed out t
he cave or are there still two parallel times great question I feel ooh can he be in his body in the Underworld and in her body at the same time at the same time but clearly at a point and time oh there are so many questions and no [Music] answers [Music] so it's mea in [Music] there [Music] no I don't know how they're going to match [Music] like [Applause] what [Music] foreign foreign speech speee foree is she a ghost you wouldn't know her cuz it's three years before he he embodied [Music] [Mus
ic] him for [Music] d [Music] fore [Music] spee whoa sad tears or happy tears um probably sad I kind of had a bad feeling that that was going to happen when she said she was going to Tokyo because then it's like she they like started I don't know embodying each other 3 years after the comet and so like she would have been there three years before he like knew her yeah and so I kind of like had a bad feeling about it when she said she was going there but then to like actually see it happening was
like really you don't know what's going to happen I hope he saves her but then he kept he kept her her hair thing for all that time mhm I have a real tight throat right now Tak fore [Music] fore fore spech [Music] [Music] fore they felt each [Music] other foreign fore fore [Music] speech foreign [Music] speee fore speech speech foreign [Music] [Laughter] [Music] speech well just had to go get some kleenex because I am not okay the Water Works whoa they met kind of they didn't have enough time t
o finish writing the names hopefully she executes the plan I I I don't think she will I feel like it's Destiny there's just that's a sad Destiny you know supposed to play a small not even a small role play somebody is affected by this and it is me they're just supposed to play a small role in each other's lives but not a small role like a big role but just like kind of maybe I still hope it works out you think she'll I you know I'm the eternal optimist you think she'll rewrite the history probab
ly not but I'm hoping I also wasn't expecting them to be so like no not jokey but like kind they were like cracking jokes and being all Naggy and stuff which I don't think I expected that I expected there to be more of like a romantic feeling I don't know what did you think yeah but I mean you think meeting when you're teenagers in that situation I think it's face to face is always more Awkward than if communication is happening covertly through messag like I think meeting the first time like th
at would be a little strange fair I just could not handle that I am having a moment let's let's see what happens here wa m foree foreign fore spee fore foreign [Music] foree foree [Music] no are you [Music] kidding for [Music] [Music] foree foree foreign foree [Music] for spee spee [Music] fore for foree [Music] [Applause] [Music] fore you for speech foreign speech fore fore [Music] spee [Music] [Music] they're going to ruin everything mhm maybe she'll survive no because she's going to try to sa
ve everybody else she's going to try to save everybody else and then she's going not going to make it that song was really good mhm and we probably had to mute it because of copyright but I just wanted to give it a shout out because it's really good oh I couldn't understand anything they were saying but it sounded really nice and Tessy was doing all of this for me suan she's doing it for another guy yeah tough oh I know you guys didn't want me to pause I didn't want to pause I'm trying to save c
opyright you know that but I just have a really sick feeling in my stomach and I'm not hopeful and I'm hoping till the end I'm preemptively sad but but I've been crying for the last 10 minutes so here we are fore [Music] speee [Music] foree spee [Music] we just stand [Music] there [Music] [Music] for she going to make ite foree no whoa no no [Music] spe spee speech for [Music] speech [Music] keep we day you [Music] call he didn't even write his name no I like what he wrote better though he had a
chance for her to remember him maybe but instead she knows and he was awkward in person but at least at least she knows oh don't don't laugh at me not laughing at you yes you are you're like you're embarrassing me you never I know you're a feeler oh my gosh I was like oh yes he had a chance to write his name this this is perfect I'm spitting everywhere I'm like leaking from everything and he broke oh I mean that's really sweet it's really sweet that he wrote that but like I really wish he would
have written his name but if if he didn't think she was ever going to see him again and that she might not save herself wouldn't you want her to he wanted her to know how he felt but also like he just didn't think she was going to make it oh I can't believe this this turned out to be much sadder than I thought it was going to be oh my gosh okay woo let me Breathe Here fore you were right on the architect Park fore fore foree for what's wrong with this [Music] [Music] foree fore [Music] [Music]
foree [Music] [Music] [Music] for [Music] [Music] [Music] married [Music] [Music] fore those are both of her friends I'm feeling so hopeful but I can't I just can't no go back oh my gosh come [Music] on foreign spee spee [Music] foree fore [Music] [Music] fore whoa you sleep well T night take it away Adam I can't talk I mean it was an incredibly beautiful story and like bubbles coming out of my nose Sor right I'm glad they found each other in the end oh my gosh and I think it's interesting how t
hey were able to go back and save the town and change it and then it works in their favor it's a feel good story I was looking for I was a cynic this the whole time I was like nope everybody's going to die they're never going to remember each other how dare he write I love you and not his name I clearly can't breathe cuz I am seriously congested from all this crying so bear with my voice here at the end what did you think are you crying no I mean compar to oh what did I think thank you to everyb
ody who recommended that that's a good choice I feel like that was a great Choice again I have no context but the last two anime movies I watched have been incredibly enjoying to watch oh my gosh like I kind of felt like this would be an emotional one uh didn't expect to be hit quite this hard but like it I don't even know what to say because I I I loved that I loved it honestly from start to finish but they just did such a great job with it like the story was amazing the visuals were amazing th
e soundtrack was awesome it we're going to Lydia is going to have to work her magic we're probably going to have to cut out so much of the soundtrack but it was so good I agree with you on that the songs were so beautiful I agree with you also the animation incredible and and I know I keep going back to this but I feel like a lot of times when I've watched really anything you kind of know what's going to happen you know like you you've seen the script enough and and I I I'm curious about a coupl
e things one if you watch a lot of anime is there kind of a a normal trajectory like if somebody who has a lot of experience watching anime watches this they go okay that's kind of what I saw coming or is it that people just have so much creative freedom that you really you really don't know and I'm curious because there were lots of times in that like as I'm watching this where I'm thinking well this could go this way this could go this way this could go that way and I personally really enjoy n
ot knowing what's going to happen yeah I mean our early predictions for at the basic level were like kind of there but then as the story line got more complex you're right it could have gone so many different directions and I like that I was wrong the I think I Was preparing myself to be so sad and so disappointed and like yes it was Waterworks times a million but it was more just like some of it was sadness like when they separated when it just said I love you on her hand like I was sad about t
hat but then like so much of it was like these two people were meant to be like it was their fate or destiny that they would like be together and like so a lot of the tears were just like feels oh yeah well I like that too of kind of feeling incomplete and like searching for something cuz I think that that's probably that's a very common way to feel like and he doesn't know right am I searching for a job am I searching for a place there's just something that's not quite right I think the whole t
heme also of be that was awesome do you know the funny thing about that is like this is going this is a huge tangent but you know how sometimes people have like either Chinese characters or whatever characters like tattooed on them yeah and you kind of go wow that's I don't know I I will say I personally kind of look at that and go what is that really whatever but then you hear like a concept like that and it's like okay I could see how somebody could find a concept like that that embodies you k
now something they believe in or something they want and it's just a little reminder it was just that part was interesting for me cuz I was like I I really like that thought of connection and how it flows through time and yeah I I agree I that is a concept that I think I will hold on to that will that is probably going to be my big takeaway and that theme runs so deep obviously it's the I would say the main concept and theme of the entire movie and I just think that the whole idea of that is so
beautiful so I that musui is my takeaway like I'm obsessed with that um and I think they did an incredible job I going to be thinking about this movie for a long time it was a good one like oh it was so beautiful anything else that you want to throw out there no I don't think so other than I I really enjoyed watching that thank you a great recommendation thanks you guys um wow that was impactful I apologize for being a complete psychopath with my tears that was wild stuff um but I would love to
hear your thoughts now that we're done no more spoilers hit us up tell us everything you want we are here for it so yes let us know thank you so much again and I would be so happy if you would like this video subscribe to my channel and stay tuned for more anime more Adam a kind of feel like he's here to stay we'll see um but yeah A+ your name I will watch that again 100% so we'll see you guys soon thanks

@masessho

That "I love you" scene brakes me apart every single time

@Ozai75

The shrine takes what's most precious from you. That was each other's names for Mitsuha and Taki. So even if he wrote his name it would've disappeared. But declarations of love are protected by the Moon according to folklore, so by writing "I love you." (Which Mitsuha was going to write as well, because of how she starts the kanji stroke order) it was saved and that was their most important thing. They wanted each other to know that they were loved.

@yuka-ow1jk

I am Japanese I'm sorry if it's hard to convey because I'm using the translation function. Thank you for the wonderful reaction. When Mitsuha's grandmother offered sake, she said that in order to return from the afterlife, ``you must give away what is most important to you.'' It's the time and memories these two people shared. In exchange, the two were allowed to return to this world. Even if I lost my memory, I couldn't erase my feelings. That's why I thought Taki was right when he wrote "I love you" instead of her name. That was her driving force. P.S., the original author said that Okudera-Senpai married Tsukasa😊

@7MonarC

When you said “He wouldn’t know her because it’s 3 years…” that made me so happy! A lot of other reactors got confused, understandably, but they were even watching the english dubbed.

@swlfangirl

Sarah while watching this:😭😭 All of us while watching this 😭😭 Adam: 😐

@hi-im-huesitos

Add me to the people asking for A Silent Voice next! And no worries Sarah, you weren't the only one crying, it happens even on rewatch, such a great movie! 😭😭 And thank you both for your reaction! In case it wasn't mentioned already, and if you would like to listen more of the music in the movie, there is a live orchestral performance by RADWIMPS, the band that scored the whole movie, available here on YouTube. To answer Adam's question, there are "troupes" in anime that you can recognize in time, like certain character archetypes and stuff, but like in non-anime tv shows and movies, you can find a bit of everything: from commercial stuff aimed at younger audiences, to very adult stories and everything in between, including gems along the way like Your Name, Spirited Away and A Silent Voice (among much others). With that being said, and maybe outside the more commercial based stuff, I think anime takes more creative freedom here and there, both in the stories being told, and the way it approachs them. A cult classic show if you guys ever want to dig in an adult anime show is Monster, be it as reaction on the channel or to watch on your own (it's kinda long but it passes by so fast). Thank you both again for your reactions, and can't wait to see more! Much love from Chile ❤❤

@vdinh143

A small detail that was implied is that because the villagers were successfully evacuated, Mitsuha's father must've been involved which means the two of them patched up. Taki didn't just give her a stern and independent image at school, but also gave her the courage to fix one of her life's biggest problems.

@re_vievversaid7921

Oh i just love this movie so much. They really put extra attention to little tiny detail. Look at mitsuha scannung head to toe taki's body cuz for her, she just met taki yesterday and now taki is more taller. Mitsuha's confused face when taki said he alrd kept the tibbon for three years. Cuz for mitsuha it's exactly just yeterday when she gave the string. The red thread, is like symbolism of mitsuha life, she entrusted her life to taki. And when the ribbon back to her again, taki's role as mitsuha's life safer has ended. All the memories must be erased, yet the feeling of love still remain. Taki is so smart to write i love you cuz that messege has nothing to do with the mission to safe the village. It's just between them two

@robertscott1949

Sarah, your comment at 1:15 "I'll cry when I'm happy" actually foreshadows the song at staircase scene at the end. The English translation of those lyrics is: Crying even when you're happy Smiling even when you're feeling lonely It's because a part of you Has made it here before the rest has (Nandemonaiya - Radwimps)

@milkbread51

as so many other people are suggesting, “A Silent Voice” is literally my favorite anime movie of all time. Everything about it, the music, soundtrack/sound design, animation, voice actors, cinematography (lack of better word) is just such a blessing to witness.

@blitzwulf6655

Glad you recognized how good the soundtrack was through the tears.

@zhihanbling

AnoHana, Your Lie in April and A Silent Voice are three good ones if you ever feel like crying more. Thanks for the awesome reaction guys! excited for more!

@svgftw351

SARAH IS GOING THROUGH IT!!!

@kevineckstein8605

The other movies by this director are also just amazing. They are called "Weathering With You" and "Suzume". I don't think you'd be disappointed in either.

@kiagokiago5500

Thanks for the reaction guys! I've rewatched this movie probably like five times by myself and twice more with other people, I love it so much. Every time, I pick up on more of the themes, foreshadowing, and character work. This time around it clicked for me how when Taki is looking for a job, he's remembering the feeling of being captivated by the comet and Itomori Village, even if he can't quite place exactly what hit him so hard about it. I'm currently finishing my Undergrad, and I have similar feeling of nostalgia when thinking about why I decided along this path 4 years ago, as it's been integrated with 4 years of life experiences. That initial fire is still with me, even if the specifics are fleeting. This movie builds onto those moments which shape your life even as the memories fade. Iit's almost as if Makoto Shinkai is saying our own ambitions, relationships, and inspirations could have been as beautiful as this movie, but we just might not remember it. Again, thanks for providing me with a reason to rewatch this movie, this time with my favorite dynamic duo. If you want another movie to ABSOLUTLY bawl at, A Silent Voice (Koe No Katachi), as many have recommended was released on the same year as Your Name, and I would love to see you guys react to that one too. Id recommend giving some time to let this movie sit, and then clearing your schedule for a similar emotional roller coaster.

@gipperee

Loved this series of reactions! Fun fact: The Radwimps was the band that did the song you liked (a lot of which you had to mute), and they also did the score and pretty much all the other songs in the movie.

@markz0157

This movie is about dreams while we sleep imo. Most of time, we forget events in our dream. Only happiness, sadness or fear feelings remain after we wake up and no matter how hard we try to remember the events, we can't remember. That's how Mitsuha and Taki felt in this movie.

@greibach_vt

An amazing conclusion! I don't actually have that much to add to this part that I didn't already say in the previous part, but I will say my favorite tell for who is in whose body. They each wear the braided cord in their own bodies because they don't know the other one has it. When Taki is in Mitsuha's body, he wears the ponytail because it's easier but he ALSO doesn't remember that she is the one that gave it to him and doesn't know the time difference for most of the movie. He does wear it on his wrist when he is in his own body, you can catch little glimpses of it various times in the early parts of the movie. Similarly, Mitsuha has no idea that Taki has the cord in his time, so she wouldn't think to grab it and wear it like he does. I love how much this film touches on these indescribable feelings we get sometimes. That we're searching for something, for someone, but we can't really explain why. Of a deep spiritual connection with someone else. Ah, a few more instances of foreshadowing from Part 1 that I had to delete: * The teacher in the beginning is teaching about Kataware Doki (twilight) and that it is believed to be the time where the physical and supernatural world cross over. This has an obvious connection to later in the film * The dance at the shrine that Mitsuha and Yotsuha are doing in the beginning with the Sake is actually modeled on a real dance, and it is something like "the dance of the dragons". The comet is named Tiamat (as said on tv in the beginning), and Tiamat is famously associated with being a dragon. Further, if you watch the dance you can see that it is showing one thing splitting into two pieces and separating, just like both the comet and Taki/Mitsuha. It is not a far stretch to assume that this dance was to remind the future generations of what was coming, but sadly the meaning of their traditions was lost when their records burned down from the great Mayogoro Fire (poor Mayogoro, they named the fire after him) * When grandma is describing Musubi, she says that time is like a braided cord; it weaves and connects, sometimes fraying, and then tying back together to reconnect. This is a fantastic metaphor for the time travel and how not only are they connected through time, but that the timeline frayed and reconnected in a different shape. * The name Itomori (the town) is written with characters representing Threads and Guarding/Protecting. Again, obvious connections here. The movie is SO full of incredible foreshadowing in small scenes all through the beginning that all come back and tie together (wink wink) in the end. Every time I watch it I am in awe. I'm so glad you guys loved it, it's one of my all-time favorite movies, and the "I love you" scene makes me tear up every time.

@emanuellopez9732

What I love about this movie so much is it takes an experience we all have felt and gives it an explanation. We have all felt a yearning for something not fully understanding what or why but maybe you have a soulmate out there that switched bodies with in your dreams.

@JiyutoSeigi

At 19:53: Sarah, I too always get a little teary when Taki is realizing Mitsuha found him in Tokyo three years too early! Adam, it's both sad and happy tears. It's complicated.
