Soul do you believe in God is that what it's
come to no I don't I accept that this defies all known laws of physics but I don't think that's
an argument for God so what's left from the same showrunners that brought us hit shows like Game
of Thrones and True Blood as they come together to bring us one of my most anticipated shows this
year and that show has released today and we are here to discuss this new Netflix epic sci-fi
series which was inspired by the internationally celebrated novel
of the same name we're here to
talk about the three body problem now in this video we'll be breaking down the season 1 finale
and after that I'll be taking a deeper dive into what I enjoyed about the show but also go into
more than my three problems that I had with this first season with my character and story breakdown
but first let's start the conversation in the comments section did you all read the series of
books that this is based upon and what did you think of its adaptation now for
everyone including
myself who hasn't read the books what did you all think about the finale but also the first season
overall what worked what didn't work what was some of your standout moment standout characters let's
talk about it all in the comments below now with that said let's break down and discussed this last
episode which was titled wall facer full spoilers ahead we open with Saul who's still grieving
after the loss of will in the previous episode as he's watching a discussion on
the news talking
about the Santi declaring war against humanity as they talk about how it isn't about the current
civilization that can defeat them but how The Descendants can do it which is one of the main
purposes of this finale as we know the staircase project with Will's floating head is in full
effect as we watch Saul have a conversation with his one night St as she finds how the aliens
perceive the humans as bugs very depressing a notion that Mike Evans introduced back in episode
4 I
was describing them as pests because well that's what they are annoying inconsequential easy
to eliminate like bugs you can squash under your shoe now just before Saul's life is about to be
turned upside down Saul acts as though he can't remember his one night stand's name but after what
about to happen next I bet he'll never forget as they walk together to find her Uber Saul explains
his position on not necessarily caring about the invasion that set to happen in 400 years as he
relates it
to his ancestors 400 years in the past as how they couldn't imagine where he would
be today Saul tells her that his cynic Viewpoint stems from the fact that he will never have kids
so he's not worried about the future and just as she begins to talk about her wanting a future and
one of the family and kids one day out of nowhere in a Final Destination type of moment Saul gets
knocked down down by a random guy causing him to get knocked out of the way of a car crash which
caused another car
to drive on the sidewalk to hit the girl and killing her as he remembers her
name is Norah as we'll learn later that this was a coordinated attack to eliminate Saul Now Saul
is taken in he officially meets do or clearance as we get the clarification that all the events
starting back in episode one in present day took place over a year so is surprised to learn that
clearance knows about his friends Auggie and Jen and the murder of Jack and will recently passing
away Saul learns that he was b
rought in to discuss the conversation that was had between him and
Dr yay at veron's grave as he learns that he was the last person to meet with her before she got
murdered something that we didn't see on screen but we know that that was at the hands of Tatiana
at the end of episode 7 as it is now believed that someone's trying to murder Saul as well as he
believes it was all an accident but it's told that all three car systems were hacked now was this an
attempt to kill him because of the
conversation he last had with Dr yay as Saul is now under the
protection as he's given a bulletproof outfit and guided on board to a private jet to an unknown
location now I personally couldn't help but to think taking Saul on this plane was a pretty
idiotic idea because they know that the Santi are capable of their protons that are sent on
Earth can hack into any technology anywhere and not only could they hack into another plane
that can crash into them but they can probably overtake thei
r plane I could be wrong but this
didn't seem to be the safest method of travel and it also seemed to be a bit of a plot hole we
cut to JY storming into Wade's office demanding that needs of Will's favorite produce be included
in the staircase capsule as Wade reminds her that every item counts against him on the timing of his
arrival as we see jyn threatens to quit but wayy calls her Bluff now this was a scene that felt
repetitive cuz we saw jyn and Augie threatening to leave but staying ov
er and over again and to me
it felt forc drama and seeing characters acting as though they're not dealing with this existential
threat that to me was something that was quite annoying to watch throughout this season now back
with Saul he's introduced to a character by the name of Sebastian Ken who has taken him to the
United Nations for a ceremony announcement about their plans for the world which will be the wall
facer project now the wall facer name comes from the ancient Buddhist name of
meditators we watched
the Secretary General talking about Humanity still having their secrets and the Santi not having the
abilities to read their minds as three people have been chosen for this project their objective is
to make plans entirely in their own minds sharing them with no one until the time is right as we
meet these wall faers starting with General hu Bing who's military expert next we have Professor
Lila who's an expert at asymmetrical battles and lastly we have Saul as their
Tas with the most
difficult and important mission in human history now clearly Saul is in disbelief and immediately
wants answers to why he was chosen and why he was not told that he was pick as we see the Secretary
General tells him that he's being watched by the enemy and the enemy believes that he's special
now sa rejects this offer to be a wall facer and is granted permission to leave and he does just
that as he denies any security and walks out of the building he is immediately shot no
w initially
I was under the impression that this was all a setup to make him believe that his life was in
danger forcing him to join but we'll see later that this was indeed a second attempt to kill
him as he wakes up in the hospital to Clarence apologizing for not keeping him safe we see Saul
wants to meet the shooter he wants to meet the enemy and talk to him now in this scene we see the
shooter shows no emotion or remorse and apologizes for not aiming for his head as he proceeds to mock
Saul's behavior of underestimating the sound and adits his Devotion to them and declares himself
as a soldier of the army of their lord Saul still refuses to take action and accept this 24-hour
protection and just wants to go home as Ken informs him that he still has to be responsible
for his day-to-day actions as Saul requests to sit down with the Secretary General once again we
watch as he tells her that he's never been a part of a war but more importantly he doesn't know how
to fight al
iens but the question remains why was he chosen a question that she can't even answer as
she tells him he'll know this answer when the time is right as she sends him off with a message we're
taking a huge gamble on you I don't expect to live long enough to see whether it pays off but I pray
that it does as we watch jyn on board a flight with other key members of the staircase project as
we watch her avoid Raj now Raj wants to know what happened between him as he brings up will which
Jen adm
its that she is still thinking about him and more importantly thinking about this mission
that he's on now Raj reminds her that will is dead but she refuses to believe this as she admits to
currently Still Loving Him Now I want to address this now but the building blocks of this romantic
relationship between will and JY has been handled terribly Not only was it rush into these final
two episodes but it was barely a focus on the earlier episodes we got no flashbacks no scenes
of them spendin
g much time together instead it was mentioned a few times between will Jack and
Saul but not once was jyn question about how she felt about will until now as we cut to Tatiana
noticing that the door of her mobile home is is open as she finds the Santi virtual reality
device is gifted to her with a letter saying if one of us survives we all survive as she puts
it on and we're not shown what she's seen or what messages she's getting but it's safe to assume
that she's now replacing Dr yay as w
ell as Mike Evans as their main source of communication with
Humanity now at will syn off we see Wade caved in and allowed for his favorite produce to be on
board with him changing his mind and showing more of a friendlier side to him to JY now Saul and
jyn discussed the ones who love them and them not acknowledging that that being will for her
and Augie for him which Speaking of we see Auggie now in Mexico helping the people who are dealing
with an epidemic as she gets a call from Saul and
she ignores it as they watch the ship enter into
space things are going according to plan at first as we watch the countdown destination ends the
navigation is interrupted as a cable disconnects and the mission is now going off course as they
watch Will's head descend into space we see Wade whisper something to Jen we end this finale with
seeing Wade on his a jet as he gets a message for sofon the STI were looking forward to meeting
will and still looking forward to meeting him if his hibe
rnation Tech works now the Santi do
admit that Wade is a strong leader and inform him that there will be a place for him when they
arrive as he's a part of their plan as the virtual reality Avatar arrives right in front of him they
remind him that they'll be with him wherever he goes and they are in control to what he sees
until the day that he dies our final shot shows Jen talking to Saul about how will will be lost
upwards of 5 million years before he leaves the Milky Way as Clarence join
s them and invites them
on a drive to get perspective on how the humans will survive this oncoming Invasion he takes them
to a swamp covered with bugs these are the bugs that people hate and have been trying to get rid
of forever they've tried every conceivable way possible to get rid of them but they don't go away
as we end with him telling them it's time to go back and continue their work and we see the bugs
flying in the air it being a representation of maybe the humans making it out of
this oncoming
Invasion be straightforward and honest I found this entire f Al to be quite anticlimactic
and extremely frustrating and disappointing but let's talk about it and my overall thoughts
of the show now the first question for me is a situation on why Saul was chosen to be a part
of this project now if we go all the way back to episode one and remembering what Vera told
him you still demonstrate great potential for future scientific accomplishment miss my window
a person who has no
t made his great contribution to science before the age of 30 will never do so
how old are you 31 32 anyone can figure this out it's you she believed in him and knew a time would
come when he would feel like he was reaching his full potential now next we can go back to episode
s where doctor yay told him a very important joke she always said you were the smartest one and says
we warned you never play with God humor is a very personal thing some people understand it and some
people don't som
e jokes are so private they only makes sense to two people jokes are important
we wouldn't survive without them I hope my joke doesn't cause you any trouble so I believe the STI
took that cryptic message as a way of it being a threat remember even Vernon told her mother that
he was the smartest of the group so it's safe to assume that they wanted him dead because he's key
to the Future War even though he didn't want to be a part of it but this is where some of my main
issues with the show s
tart Saul's importance to the overall plot will and jyn's love story a
personal Journey all examples of characters and plot lines that felt extremely rushed or poorly
executed and underdeveloped this episode was a perfect example of how the Stak sometimes felt
non-existent or never really having that feeling that the characters were truly in danger now
as I sit up top I've never read the books but I've spoken to people that have and they talk
about how incredible this Trilogy of books are a
nd after watching the show I did some digging
and found some interviews with the creators and they talked about how they got the blessing from
the writer on taking some creative liberties with intertwining key elements from the books and even
creating new characters just for the show now the question I have is for my book readers I would
love to hear from your perspective on if those changes work for the show in the comments below
now I want to Pivot from possibly one of if not the worst ep
isode of this season and take a look
into what I found to be compelling and interesting about the show and talk about the key moments
and characters that really stood out to me now starting off I thought the first episode was very
effective in opening up the story introducing us to one the more complex characters in Dr yay as
she watched her father get killed right in front of her and that being the starting point in which
she began to lose faith in humanity the mystery surrounding the deat
hs of the scientist Augie's
countdown and the ending with the flickering light show in the sky set up a very promising story
now while I found the follow-up episode to be a huge step back and I didn't know what the show
was trying to accomplish it was the young story of Dr y that really kept me engaged in that last
scene of her going against the request to continue communication with the Santi was the thing that
kept me going and the setup to what I believe to be the best episode in this en
tire series which
was episode 3 in that episode we learned that the VR game was a recruitment process we discovered
that the Santi which translates to three body people in China their planet was destroyed by the
three-body problem and they're headed to Earth for their new home as Jen and Jack found that out
after leveling up to level four and learning that this VR was created to explain their story
and then to in the episode was seeing Jack being killed by Tatiana that episode to me like I
said was the best one of the entire show it was thrilling the pacing was excellent and the way
they handled the reveal was just amazing but after now seeing the full story it feels like they gave
away all the mystery very early because the rest of the show to me never lived up to what episode 3
presented now the only other episode that I found to be very interesting and also very shocking was
the episode five where we saw that operation a take place with Judgment Day seeing those kids
watc
hing as Augie's nanotech slice through the ship was the most unsettling moment of this entire
show and easily the best highlight for me because it spoke to one of the more interesting aspects
which was seeing what people were willing to do to survive as we watched humans kill other humans
to gather information on how they can defeat the enemy was one of the most haunting moments to
witness of this entire show those were episodes that to me were at its best when the show touched
on the theme
s of society and how techn technology and science Trump personal care of one another and
when it explored the complexity of what reality means to some and having a sense of Pride and
care for the future of the humanity those were the elements that really worked to me now sticking
with what worked and looking at the characters I enjoyed and the performances that really worked
now while he wasn't given a ton of backstory nor did we spend a lot of time with his day-to-day
life I thought benedi
Wong as Clarence the ex intelligence officer with his unorthodox style
as a detective of sorts investig the mysterious deaths within the scientific Community was
so entertaining whenever he was on screen he completely kept my attention now switching over to
newcomer Jess Hong as Jin the genius physicist who was always seeking answers and her curiosity being
her biggest strength but also her downfall that to me made her character have layers and have depth
I would have liked it if the show
would explored more of her childhood but she still managed to
give one of the best performances of the show I really enjoyed how her char character was able
to figure out the three body problem in the VR system but also how she kept trying to save
that little girl because as it was revealed later that was Vera when she was younger now these
characters weren't given a lot to do but still had important moments throughout the show and that
is the actress who appeared as the Avatar to me she wa
s excellent she spoke so well she carried
herself with such mystery and I would say the same thing could be said about Tatiana and finally
my two favorite characters were Thomas Wade and Dr yay now spoke about Dr yay a little bit earlier
but the young version of herself really kept me watching through the first two episodes and I
found her flashbacks to be the best story early on and her older self was so compelling as well
but Thomas Wade played by Liam Cunningham the charismatic leader of
the world's most elite
intelligence operation his No Nonsense get it done by any means necessary attitude was so rich
and fun to watch even though he was ruthless and Reckless at times what a great performance by Liam
and the complete opposite of his character from Game of Thrones which I was a big fan of that
show and speaking of Game of Thrones it was so nice to see some of those familiar faces make
their way into this show but now let's discuss my problems with three body problems now s
ince
we ended with the characters I enjoyed let's talk about the characters I found to be extremely
underwritten and difficult to watch not because of the performances but due to the writing starting
with Auggie now she is known as a problem solver but I felt that she was more of a problem starter
I didn't like how poorly her character sto story was handled her countdown plot felt so nonchalant
at points her mental conscience being tested by the creation of her own making that being the
re
ason of the deaths on the Judgment Day boat and seeing how she was dealing with that and
her just mysteriously leaving to Mexico to her relationship with Saul and others none of
her stuff really worked for me in this series now I'll put some of the blame on the individual
performance by Issa Gonzalez who I actually am a fan of her work but in this show some of her
more emotional moments felt flat but again a lot of that goes to the blame of the writing now I
share a similar sentiment about
Saul played by the incredibly talented Javon Depo who's been a part
of some of my favorite shows from The Leftovers to The Watchmen I felt the show didn't know what
to do with him until the finale most of the time he was either high or not caring about what was
going on he felt forgotten for most of the show and to have him be one of the most important
characters at the end I didn't feel like that was earned now the next set of characters to me
just felt miscast John Bradley as Jack who we
know as Sam as Game of Thrones he was meant to be this
cocky rich guy but deep down he really cared about his friends especially will a lot of his Persona
just didn't work for me and if I'm being honest I didn't really feel anything when he died same
thing about the character Mike Evans who was just so one note and seemed to have no real purpose
besides being the financial lynchmen to creating this organization with Dr yay which Speaking of
their relationship was never explored him being th
e father of Vera and the time Jump to when they
reunited with Dr yay all those years left behind it felt like there was so much story that was
untouched seeing them in the 80s '90s into the 2000s like I assume the families on the Judgment
Day boat were recruited but we never saw their position or never explored their point of view
or how Mike felt about Humanity needed to be reset and then you have characters like Raj who is
just there not having much to do besides being the boyfriend frien
d which leads me into a character
and a performance that I thought was fine but it just felt inconsistent and how they were handled
was just a shame I'm talking about Alex sharp as will Downey now his character dealing with stage
4 cancer it was upsetting yes but it kind of felt like it was a part of a whole different show
again the Love Story between him and Jen didn't work for me I really thought that he did okay in
the role it just again it didn't feel like it fit within the Sci-Fi plot
with the aliens and the
science and religious topics that the show was trying to tackle which to wrap up this breakdown
I felt the majority of the show had an uneven Pace it was tonally inconsistent and it felt like it
was repetitive and had underdeveloped Exposition I really wish the show would have expanded upon
the different viewpoints of the scientific people like Saul for example believing that everything is
based in science and has a logical answer versus not believing in God or relig
ion I wish that
discussion was explored with those who called the Santi Lord would drove them people to giving
up on humanity and for a show that had moments of Epic scope and scale besides the news clippies on
TV I never felt the weight of the world and how they felt about the future Invasion also found it
very difficult to accept that the United Nations put the responsibility of Defending Humanity on
one person and that being weighed I don't think we saw one scene or any push back from an
y other
Nation or countries or War leaders or governments about the decisions being made on how they can
defeat the aliens which Speaking of the menacing nature of the sansi and what they're capable of
doing was very inconsistent how was Tatiana able to vanish in thin air after killing Jack now
I assume it had to do with the two protons on Earth but that was never really explained I also
assume that the VR was sent to Earth by those same protons as well it's little details like that
that I
wish were explained more in depth but my biggest complaint about this show is how it
struggled to develop its main core of characters with the Oxford 5 and how it really didn't make
me feel that their relation ship were real and that they really cared for one another the show
didn't do enough leg work for me to convince that they cared about one another and I didn't really
care about them individually at points nor as a group I never felt that their chemistry really
worked for me and you h
ave some characters that just felt flat like Auggie or unlikable like
Jack or feeling like they're in a different show like will sometimes their motivations just
felt unclear or not fully explored speaks to the genre that the show is handling it definitely
felt more like a smart sci-fi thriller at times but an uninteresting and underwhelming sci-fi
drama but as a fan of Science Fiction I really did appreciate how deep in depth and how headyy
the science was in this show honestly I have so m
uch more to say but I want to end it on this
in conclusion three-body problem is a show about science and technology and tries to explore what
it means to be a human in today's society and it does a halfway decent job of exploring that as the
show attempts to put in a mirror to today's world which is shaped by technology and science and
shows that it can be both empowering to us but also enslaves Us by its influences and within the
context of the show it threatens Humanity as we watch both
the science and technology and what the
responsibility means to some of those characters in the show and how was put to question of what
they can do when they have control for example characters like Wade Dr yay and Mike Evans as we
saw through the eyes of the VR the true nature of reality itself and the vastness of the universe is
way more complex than what these characters could have ever imagined when this show was at best this
to me was a show that tackled the philosophical sci-fi story
that was a genre bending experience
that combined science technology humanity and the scope of scale of all that but ultimately it
didn't do it effectively which brings me to given this first season of three body problems
a six out of 10 and I would say I was left dissatisfied and overall disappointed but at the
time of this recording there's been no official announcement about more seasons but the creators
have confirmed that they're already hard at work on working on future Seasons Seaso
ns that I
would watch and hope for a better Improvement on the shortcomings of this season because I can
see how much potential these characters in their story has that's going to be the end of this video
I would love for you all to share your thoughts to this finale as well as the overall show from what
worked and didn't work for you from the story to its characters and what you all hope to see in
potential future Seasons thank you all so much for watching this video you all are awesome st
ay
safe and I'll catch you all on the next breakdown [Music]

I have watched the first few episodes , i have read the books , i have seen the chinese tv series . So far , i am quite enjoying it.
I personally loved it❤. I have watched both the Netflix and the Tencent adaptation and neither is perfect but they are both respectful of the source material which is the delectable part for me, as a book reader. What I liked about the Netflix one is that despite the creative changes that they made they definitely kept the all the main plot points in the story and I got the same feelings and reactions watching certain scenes that when I first read them in the books. This is for me a proof that they didn't miss the mark in capturing the essence of the story. One issue I had is that the tone of the show was almost too humorous compared to the book which is quite dark in tone. But I get why they did it, it can't be too depressing if we want to get a second and third season greenlit 😅. All in all, I was agreably surprised and I hope we get the Dark Forest season 2.
This is a good adaptation.
It was a weird, but entertaining adaptation. Hoping non book readers dug it.
The Chinese version was long, but superior in drawing from the source material, not converting it to something current.
The show is awesome. I'm having a blast.
I think it was pretty good adaptation. The people who havent read the books would really like this. And as a person who has read the trilogy of Remembrance of Earth's Past and one more sequel book called The Redemption of time(written by Baoshu) though not written by Liu, I pretty much liked the Netflix version as well. I loved how they tried to focus on characters more compared to novels where they felt somewhat flat to me( which was fine since novel is way more focused on science and different theories). Also, i noticed that the netflix show was not totally faithful to the novel version, they changed many characters, swapped races of few and changed location but that was to be expected upto somewhat point since its made for Western and Non Chinese Audience which pretty much justifies the changes. Also, there were few changes to storyline of character introductions which i kind of liked since they needed to do somewhat different things to keep the novel readers guessing the changes lol 😂. Though all the theories and main events in the first book and some hints from the sequal were given which was quite fascinating. Over all, i enjoyed the show very much. Many might say that last few episodes felt a little slow paced but compared to tencent version they were pretty nice. And since its a live action adaptation, they needed to include more characters setup and development for the future events for the audience to stick around and root for their favourite characters(new ones included now), so i dont mind the love angles, twicks and twiches and other odd things that Saul(based on from novel character Luo Zi) and friends did. I would rate it 7.5/10. And i am pretty excited how they will do in the season2. Pretty excited for Crisis era and Deterence and post-deterence era especially😊.
Is Saul actually Luo Ji from the book? Confusing
In original book, Will is no body but was only once upon a time Jen's classmates. Will try to end his life after knowing he had cancer. He got a lottery and buy a star for Jen , only because he thought she is the only one lasting in his mind.
Read the first book and I understand why they made the changes they made, but it loses a lot of the science in it which really made me love the first book.
Every time I make myself watch it I can’t tolerate more than two episodes at a time… what a disappointment! It feels like a complete scale down from the books. Even after knowing the trisolarians are coming, there’s only the character of Dashi and Wade are doing the investigation.. even project GuZheng is planned and conducted by these two?! Oh ok with “WangMiao”’s military boyfriend too… “Oxford 5”… so the entire earth’s fate is reduced to being in the hands of this class of friends now?! And the ETO is depicted so superficially… YeWenJie’s faith to the trisolariance is depicted the same as a brainless religious nuts. Wth?! And YeWenJie’s romance scenes are completely unnecessary… Watching this I cannot feel any pressing urgency in this crisis that our world should feel knowing the aliens are coming…so disappointed.
I loved it. I think this show will really hit it's stride in season 2. S2 will probably fully focus on adapting only the second book, which is my favorite book in the series. Season 2 may also make this season better in retrospect. . . . . MOVIE FILES, I AM YOUR WALLBREAKER.
I like the series I hope it get a season 2. However the ending was anticlimactic. And as far as him traveling by plane, I don’t see it as a plot hole but is a bit silly.they could’ve had a zoom meeting. I guess even an alien invasion they won’t let us miss work 😭.
People always complain about the rendition not being faithful to the book just to stroke their own egos that they're superior to the plebs lol
The creators mentioned that they would be very excited for season two as there’s a part that is just as a fun as game of thrones ‘red wedding’
There are 3 versions of this book right? 2 chinese adaptations and this one?
I think the Chinese version definitely had its charm, but I personally thought the page by page adaptation was a bit too much for TV. With the netflix version it's a bit the other way around. They go too fast and could do more with the science and sense of dread. I guess the right balance is somewhere in between the two series. I enjoyed the netflix one as well though. I think as a series it is fine and enjoyable, but there's is potential for so much more in those books.
They have done a fairly good job adapting and added a few extra characters/storylines without feeling like a departure from the book. Knowing the source material probably helped with understanding some of its core concepts without any issue. But I cannot say if going in all fresh would yield identical experience. Having said that, there are still quite an amount of discrepancies in the atmosphere in this one. In the book, people in general follow this crisis with a mindset of equation solving. They understand what is at stake and is almost determined to do what is necessary. The series added some personal struggles, like morality or discussions of individuality vs collectivity. While I understand it is humanizing and "normal" , it does feel a little fartsy in a hard sci-fi of this scale.
