I heard that you loved me but only for two weeks To be hopeless or not to be I'm weak with indecision Could we begin again on a terrible date it would be greatly appreciated by me I'll wear my normal shoes this time Then maybe you'd like me Better in the sunlight. If I built a raft will you stay with me then fall in love all over again.

@GladiusTR

Martin was a man with horrible habits who had found his motivation to work to being a better person. He had someone who legitimately loved his roguish ways, a person who he never had to actually manipulate and could be honest with, and a home (plus the financial stability was probably a plus). One bad day later and he's lost everything. He can never return home, his son is probably dead, and he's alone and surrounded by potential enemies once again. No wonder he relapsed hard and became his worst possible self

It bothers me so much, that none of them ever realized this misunderstanding. So Finn’s mom is just stuck thinking her husband is just pure evil.

@TheWonder_OfU

I really like that they didn’t do the cliche “woman pays for man’s dinner because he can’t” instead they used it as a character building moment where Martin is trying anything to still be a good guy and resorts to a goofy method of using a gem to pay instead.

@Marshall_TheKing

It is a scene that will never disappear from my memory.

@MagicCardboardBox

Man, Martin goes from scumbag to extremely sympathetic tragedy, so quickly. Especially with that extra thing of him bleeding from his head on the boat, brain damage on top of trauma cannot be good for you.

@iceninja4333

What breaks me the most is that Minerva thought Martin bailed him and his son to escape the island, like it was all planned out by him for all these years. She managed to change his rogue attitude and create a family of her own, until everything just crumbles down. Now we will never see Martin's repentance to his beloved wife that's now behind a digital screen, while he is living out somewhere doing space crimes with no memory of Finn or Minerva.

@ashaadarin3934

I’ll never forget when I first watched this scene I was sorta bored with the island plot line then this came on and I was completely speechless and on the verge of tears

@galaxythebat

While it is really depressing that the final shot is in the same day as Finn is lost to his parents, the loveliest part is the tree she was watering. At her going into labor she's watering a sapling, and on that fateful day it's grown and producing. Things keep moving forward, no matter what. They grow and change... But everything stays, doesn't it?

@treores1663

What sucks is that... While we may know what happened to martin, Minerva doesn't. She will forever think that martin truly did abandon her and so will Finn. They will never realize what martin did or how he turned out to become after the event.

@epicjaguar9725

I just realized that Martin has a red boot at the date and when Finn meets him he's wearing red boots.

@rolanslide8509

The fact that this song doesn't have an extended version is criminal 😢

@SneakGoblin7

Its so jarring to watch this scene of normal human people interacting, loving and accomplishing life while on the other side of the ocean there is an entire world that we have grown up with that is familiar yet completely different. A post apocalyptic, magical, fantasy land full of candy people, ice wizards, various monarchs and cursed objects and all on some islands are us represented. Really fucks me up

@illiardbilliard2355

"And if I built a raft, would you stay with me then? And fall in love with me all over again?" Marty had the raft ready to go, but he never used it or told Min about it because he was scared of losing the greatest thing that ever happened to him. He recognized that she gave him so many chances, so he made those chances count and bettered himself for her and their son. I think that, after he fought the guardian and was swept out to sea, he realized that he couldn't go back. He was all out of chances, even though it truly was a "wrong place wrong time" situation. And I think when that dawned on him, he just went back to his old ways and stopped trying to better himself, stopped trying to change. He tried to be good, and he ended up losing everything he ever loved.

@gabbytorres6885

These make me cry with how sweet and genuine they are fuck

@danielmcandrew979

It hits so hard that Martin actually had a balance. He wasn’t a good guy who went bad and he wasn’t a guy who was always bad. He was roguish but that’s what his wife liked about him, and he found a way to still be himself but have fun with a less intense life. Then his past caught up and he thought his son died. Then Martin did the real villainy, the everyday kind which has no less impact for being common; he ran away rather than face the fallout. He panicked over why his wife would think and so even with remorse for Finn “passing” he just bottles that up and becomes the worst version of himself. He’s no longer duping people trying to escape the island, he’s messing with defunct life supporting space stations and committing cosmic crimes. It hits harder that if Martin was less of an emotional coward things might’ve turned out different. Running from facing things and other people can make us all the worst versions of ourselves

@mctulkyviperbit6166

I believe Finn inherited his athleticism from Martin. Martin showcased his ability to move and maneuver multiple times, and this scene shows he has some skill when it comes to fighting. In summary I think Finn was given the athleticism from Martin and his ability to help others from Minerva.

@gingerdeadx

I wish they could have all had a happy ending 😢❤

@brockbell9429

Is to bad that Finn never knew how much his father used to love him and his mom 😢

@roobee1234

This is one of my favorite scenes from my favorite show ❤️

@theshippinglordj7737
