Biden ‘24 comms chief: Trump has a ‘losing agenda’ that voters ‘have rejected time and time again’

A rematch between President Biden and former President Donald Trump is set after former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley dropped out of the Republican primary. Michael Tyler, the Biden campaign communications director, joins Andrea, Ana, and Jose to weigh in on Haley’s exit from the race and how the Biden campaign is reaching out to her supporters. He said Trump's “agenda is incredibly unpopular. It's as dangerous as it is unpopular. When you're out here talking about the role that you played in overturning Roe, when you're rooting for the economy to crash because you think it's going to help yourself, when you're pledging to serve as a dictator on day one — that is a losing agenda that the American people have rejected time and time again,” Tyler says. “There's room for Democrats, for independents, for moderate Republicans, everybody who’s rejecting the MAGA extremism that now confronts us in Donald Trump. This is the fundamental choice right now as we head into a general election.” » Subscribe to MSNBC: https://www.youtube.com/msnbc Follow MSNBC Show Blogs MaddowBlog: https://www.msnbc.com/maddowblog ReidOut Blog: https://www.msnbc.com/reidoutblog MSNBC delivers breaking news, in-depth analysis of politics headlines, as well as commentary and informed perspectives. welcome back to our special coverage of the 2024 election following the exit of Nikki Haley today from the Republican presidential primary race for his part President Biden is already reaching out to Haley's supporters Mr Biden saying in a campaign statement today quote Donald Trump made it clear he doesn't want Nikki Haley supporters I want it to be clear there is a place for them in my campaign and joining us now is Michael Tyler communications director for the Biden 2024 campaign Michael than
ks so much for being with us first of all how do you persuade Nikki Haley supporters to get behind President Biden without even further losing the young people the progressives the people in Michigan and elsewhere who voted uncommitted or no preference in some of the states last night who were really angry at Joe Biden well thank you so much for having me Andrea and I think the way that we do that is by communicating exactly what Nikki Haley said about Donald Trump when she was communicating the
fundamental threat that he presents to American democracy if you stood with Nikki Haley uh when she was calling out Donald Trump's hatred his division the chaos that he represents uh that is not uh a radical uh notion right that is a mainstream notion I think the vast majority of the American people share so as we move forward uh whether you're a Democrat an independent or a moderate Republican who continues to reject the maggot extremism that's embodied by Donald Trump uh there is a home for y
ou in Joe Biden's campaign so we're encouraging all those folks to take the opportunity today to go to Joe biden.com sign up donate because it's time for everybody to be all aboard this effort to defeat Donald Trump once and for all we are now in a general election and this is what is at stake and you know you President Biden has been much more forceful and Direct in his attacks on Donald Trump recently calling him a loser several times will he dial this up even more between now and election day
well Donald Trump certainly is a loser he lost in 2020 by over 7 million votes to Joe Biden uh and he's a loser right now on the campaign Trail because his agenda is incredibly unpopular it's as dangerous as it is unpopular when you're out here talking about uh the role that you played in overturning row when you're rooting for the economy to crash because you think it's going to help yourself when you're pledging to serve as a dictator on day one that is a losing agenda uh that the American pe
ople have rejected time and time again they did so in 2020 they did so in 2022 uh they've done so is is recently as the fall elections in 2023 uh so that's the contrast that the president is prepared to carry forth over the course of the next8 months absolutely we're going to call out Donald Trump and his losing agenda every single day any plans to reach out to Liz Cheney who just posted on X this morning there are eight months to stop Donald Trump is there room in the Biden campaign tent for al
z Cheney yeah I can't speak to any specific Outreach efforts um regarding her but the point is everybody who understands the fundamental Stakes of this election everybody who understands the existential threat that Donald Trump poses to American democracy you absolutely have a place in this fight on Joe Biden's campaign right we are all committed to making sure that we protect American democracy that we protect our fundamental freedoms and then we can continue to build on the progress that we've
seen over the course of the last uh three years under this Administration so there is room for democrats for Independents for moderate Republicans everybody who is rejecting the Maga extremism that now confronts Us in Donald Trump this is the fundamental choice right now as we head into a general election uh so we are welcoming everybody who understands the stakes now the polling shows Michael that age and fitness continue to be something that voters are raising New York Times Sienna poll showe
d more Biden supporters 47% said that Joe Biden is too old to be effective that number was only 21% among Trump supporters even though he's only three or four years younger so you know what can he do to project more strength and that he's more energetic you know we know what he is behind closed doors we've heard all the V validations from all the cabinet people all the people close to him but it's very clear that this campaign is you know keeping him close close to home and he's not going to Big
crowds anymore he's he's not out that much among people other than you know to go to close fundraisers doesn't he have to be out there more to show his strength Beyond you know when he's on teleprompt or on the State of the Union obviously the biggest test of all well yeah the president has been out there Chris Cross ing the country we kicked off 2024 the president was in places like Valley Forge Pennsylvania Charleston South Carolina he's been crossing the country to kick off uh the election y
ear obviously you mentioned tomorrow night the State of the Union the president will be front and center in front of the American people not only reminding them of this historic record of accomplishment but laying out everything uh that is at stake uh in this November and what we can accomplish over the course of the next four years right building on the progress that we've made restoring r as the law of the land continuing to build on the 13 billion do in student loan debt this president has al
ready forgiven building on the progress that we made from the first bipartisan gun violence uh legislation in a generation and banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines the president is going to continue to go out and make the case directly to the American people over the course of the next eight months you can expect to see him the vice president everybody else Chris crossing the country uh over the course of the next a couple of months as we continue to to gear up here as we head int
o uh the general election posture right this is fundamentally a Time for us to ramp up those efforts and so you can absolutely expect the president vice president everybody else to be out on the stump regularly communicating directly with the voters who are going to decide this election Michael let me quickly ask you something that just broke in the Washington Post that's been passed to me that Bernie Sanders had a private meeting with Joe Biden and urged him to Echo FDR more and to go after big
business to basically use the Bernie Sanders lines and that's not been a comfort level for Joe Biden especially not as he's trying to be more of a general election candidate but can you tell us anything about that private meeting with Bernie Sanders giving advice to Joe Biden I certainly can't speak to any private meetings um that the president has had but con about the general themes the general advice well yeah absolutely as it relates to continuing to build an economy that grows from the mid
dle out and the bottom up we are going to contrast that against Donald Trump whose entire economic policy is about serving people like himself Rich folks billionaires wealthy corpor ation this President is about fighting for working people the middle class the American people that's going to be a fundamental economic contrast not only tomorrow night but over the course of the next eight months we're going to aggressively make that case uh because not only do we have the record Donald Trump also
has receipts of the damage the chaos that he left behind because his entire economic agenda was about serving people like himself it was not about serving the American people so yeah that will be a contrast moving forward that

My entire life I have never been in or supported a cult or voted for a dictator and don't intend to start so I will be voting for Joe Biden.

@paulheads8101

Regardless of your party it's plain to see Donald Trumps agenda isn't in the best interest of America.

@jeffreyenglish1815

DRUG TEST TRUMP! How can we make that happen? I think it would put an end to this whole thing.

@SonnyDrysdale

I don't care to listen to Trump and he's Victory speech. Just more of that lame and childish BS.

@bonghunezhou5051

DJT also lost the raw vote in '16 by nearly 3M as well!

America vs Trump. Pick a side.

40 year high inflation, 7.2 million illegals allowed entry, and fueling multiple conflicts are not winning metrics my guy.

@terrencekane8203

Scholarship has ranked Joe Biden 14th best president in history, edging out Reagan and Grant. Drump is dead last.

Yes, please! Please remember all the lives given to Protect our Democracy!!! Please help us KEEP our Nation FREE! Trump LOVES the idea of being a Dictator!!!

@DavidJ222

"There is beauty in truth, even if it's painful. Those who lie, twist life so that it looks tasty to the lazy, brilliant to the ignorant, and powerful to the weak. But lies only strengthen our defects. They don't teach anything, help anything, fix anything or cure anything. Nor do they develop one's character, one's mind, one's heart or one's soul." --José N. Harris Trump is a successful liar because he refuses to remember. Not only that: He refuses to anticipate that he will remember the current moment in the future. If you live mainly in the current moment, then the future consequences of your lies will not matter to you. And if you have lived your entire life this way, and to great acclaim and success, why would you ever want to change? Trump was annoyed when Dr. Fauci stole the spotlight by throwing out the first pitch for Major League Baseball’s opening game. In response, he falsely claimed that the Yankees invited him to throw out the first pitch. His lie was roundly refuted a short time later. The incident recalls Trump’s false boast that the crowd attending his 2017 inaugural address was the largest in history. Objective photographic evidence decisively refuted that lie. And yet Trump never pulls back on blatantly false statements — lies that are so obvious that they often defy the laws of physics, chemistry and common sense. The key to Trump’s psychology is that he moves through life as “the episodic man.” For Trump, each day is a temporary moment of time. Psychological research shows that nearly all adults develop stories in their minds about their own lives. These stories — what psychologists call “narrative identities” — reconstruct the past and imagine the future. As you make daily decisions, you implicitly remember how you have come to be who you are, and you anticipate where your life may be going. You live within narrative time. But the episodic man does not live that way. Instead, he immerses himself in the angry, combative moment, striving desperately to win the moment. But the episodes do not add up. They do not form a narrative arc. In Trump’s case, it is as if he wakes up each morning nearly oblivious to what happened the day before. What he said and did yesterday, in order to win yesterday, no longer matters to him. And what he will do today, in order to win today, will not matter for tomorrow. What is truth for the episodic man? Truth is whatever works to win the moment. For most people, and every other president in the history of the US, an episodic life would be unsustainable in the long run. There is a primal authenticity in Trump. He tells you exactly what he feels in the moment. He lies straight to your face, without shame, without any concern for future consequences. It is the stark audacity of untruth.

@steverimnac526

If Trump's voters turn on him he may want to stop campaigning. The GOP and the Supreme Court have worked hard to make sure his supporters do not know the crimes he committed in 2020.

@richyp64

I'm one of the 31% that approves of President Biden's job performance and I'll be voting for him again. 💙💙

@lisamcbarron6047

I would crawl over broken glass, in my last few days of life to vote AGAINST TRUMP and FOR BIDEN. And no matter what LIES and RHETORIC Trump spews from his yap, OUR ALLIES and other countries around the world are holding their collective breath and praying that Trump does NOT win and get back into the White House!! THERE IS GOOD REASON FOR THEM TO ALL FEEL THIS WAY!!! And they aren't holding back on letting us know it either. VOTE BLUE!!

@allenchurch2870
