Movie Health Community

Hello and welcome back to Movie Health Community, the Internet's number one source of health warnings at the movies. As always, please keep in mind that nothing produced by Movie Health Community is medical advice, nor has any of it been reviewed by any medical professionals. Today we're talking about Dune: Part Two, the sequel to the Denis Villeneuve Masterpiece Dune from 2021. Denis Villeneuve has a reputation that has merited IMAX first at every movie he does. So I'm seeing this IMAX tonight.
I am a different person than I was when I walked into that theater. Before we talk about whether this movie is any good, let's talk about if this movie is safe for photosensitive audiences. The answer is: Most of the runtime of this movie is safe for photosensitive audiences. This is going to sound like I have a lot to say, but this takes up a very small amount of the runtime, and it's easy to describe, So it's easy to tell when there are warnings for these scenes about to happen. So the bigges
t scene of strobe lights in Dune: Part Two involves a long dark hallway. There are some strobe lights illuminating this hallway. This is a scene that lasts about two or three minutes. There's a really easy way to know that this scene is about to happen, and that is when we see fireworks happening at night, which that sounds like it's going to be a strobe effect, but it really isn't. So when you see fireworks going off at night, just be warned that the next scene in a dark hallway is going to hav
e some pretty strong strobe effects for about 2 to 3 minutes. The other scene of strobe lights in this movie happens right after a man drinks a blue liquid. And this one lasts about 20 seconds. One thing to be on the lookout for with this movie is that there are several scenes that take place in very dark environments where it just dramatically cuts to a much brighter environment very suddenly for the next scene. That happens quite a few times in this movie. Finally, early in the movie and this
was in a trailer, there are close-ups of flickering fire. So for flashing lights, we are giving Dune: Part Two a 5/10. Strobe effects that are pretty intense, but they are easy to predict and they don't take up a lot of runtime. You won't miss very much if you're covering your eyes for those scenes, as long as you're listening to the dialog behind them. There is some use of some mild shaky cam, but the shaking is pretty mild and it doesn't happen very frequently. There is some action that takes
place at extreme speeds. Then in terms of mental health, the biggest one we have has to do with vomit. There are two instances. One is where a woman vomits offscreen and there are several seconds of warning that that's about to happen. Does happen with a pretty graphic sound effect. And then later on, there is a part where, with very little to no warning, a man throws up fully on-screen. Now, is Dune: Part Two any good? Full disclosure: this is something I have not done with any movies before, b
ut I was not sober when I watched Dune: Part Two. So this was really the first time I've ever experienced that. With that in mind, this may have been the greatest theatrical experience I have ever had. Dune: Part One was so transportive. I was so impressed with how much it really took me to this faraway place in this faraway time, and it really felt like I had left my world behind. And not being sober for Part Two enhanced that to an extreme degree. This movie did that whole otherworldly, qualit
y way better than the Avatar movies (do). But with with all that in mind, I... based on my experience watching this movie last night, I think that this sequel belongs in the same conversations as Terminator 2 and The Empire Strikes Back. It was that good. Everybody in this movie is great. Nice to see Austin Butler actually having some variety to what he is capable of as an actor. I've only seen him as Elvis and I've only seen him present an award and still have the Elvis voice. And he definitely
did not have the Elvis voice in this. He had Stellan Skarsgård’s voice, and it seemed like he was doing an impression of Stellan Skarsgård, which, given the fact that he's supposed to be related to Stellan Skarsgård in this movie, makes sense. This movie brought more of the mysticism of the world of Dune and depicted it in a way that it felt real, like this almost felt like a faith one could really join! There was quite a lot of CG in this movie. It was all perfect. Just the way it was used and
the quality of the animation. This was some of the most convincing CG I've ever seen. As with every one of Denis Villeneuve's movies, this one demands to be seen on an IMAX screen if you have access to one. And I'm so glad I did. The visuals were absolutely stunning. I don't think it was quite as pretty of a movie as Blade Runner 2049, but having already made the most beautiful movie ever made, how... how do you follow... follow that up. And so far, all we've had Denis Villeneuve follow up with
is these two Dune movies. Yeah, this was absolutely stunning on the biggest screen possible and with the best sound system possible. And this is why we go to the theaters, to experience things like this, and to truly be transported into these new worlds. That is what IMAX specifically was made for. I have no complaints about this movie. I am going to give Dune: Part Two an A+! Thank you so much to our readers on Tumblr and Facebook, and as always, an extra-special thanks to our patrons over on
