Experiment: Omnitronic TRM-202 op amp roll

In this episode, I invite you to participate in test aimed at evaluating the potential improvement in the sound quality of Omnitronic TRM-202 mixer by changing operational amplifiers at key points in the circuit. Mixers Inside

Hello and welcome again to Mixers Inside. Today we will try to modify  the sound of Omnitronic mixer by replacing the stock 4580  op amps with other stuff. First thing that came to  my mind were phono preamps. Replacing them with better performing op amps with higher open loop gain and JFET inputs can result in change of sonic characteristics. In this 2 channel mixer there  are 2 single op amp phono preamps so i had to change 2 chips. The second thing i thought  that can be interesting to try wa
s summing amp chip replacement. There were so many op amps on  the mainboard and i was too lazy to do reverse engineering so i thought  it will be easier to change all of them. For the summing amp I chose legendary  TL072 chip that works in summing amps of mixers like UREI 1620 and  other classic well known mixers. Let me show you the full process of op amp change. I've obviously recorded sound before and  after the modification. But let's treat things seriously and don't listen to it on YouTube
. In the description i provided the link to hi-resolution files recorded with high performance ADC. I also recommend downloading ABX tester for foobar to perform faithful testing. Doing ABX test will first help  you to answer the question "can you hear any difference" and if yes then you can try to choose what  sounds better for your ears. I would be more than thankful for sharing  you thoughts in the comments. Cheers!
