o me but also just in in our as we approach fpl having chaos within us is is kind of  like um feeling the variance in life like [ __ ] happens and it's guaranteed it will  happen so you need to have space for that chaos if you don't if you think everything is  predictable and everything is deterministic then when things do unravel then you are going  to unravel with them so hold space for chaos within you get ready for variance this season and  it's about how we respond to that variance so and r

in his team and people like that you know yeah i gave you so much [ __ ] for that last year yeah i think you when gabe gabe gave  me a lot of [ __ ] for bail but then this engine room then this is the engine  room is where everything starts from so what you're going to see is you're going to see  the fixture difficulty and then what we're going to do and this week gabe's not doing too much  of his matchups because there's not a lot of matchups to actually do this week gabe is  there yeah i know

i mean the matchups are a reflection of what's happened and then you know  looking at what's to come but um but the matchups are that they will be posted they'll all be posted  on the thread on twitter and you'll have links to every single team so that'll be finished uh at  some point today i will refer to those stats in in our conversations yeah absolutely absolutely  but the aim is tonight is to predict those halls so we're going to try and show you the games  that we think you're going to ge

t there's going to be two and a half goals or more we're going to  try and predict where the clean sheets come from um we're going to look for a potential defensive  hauler of the week and we're also providing updated the slides also which i'm not sure i have  now thinking about it whether there's the tripod the trap of the weeks in there as well um one  new thing we're gonna do and this i think i'm really quite proud of this actually and gabe and  i have been working on this through the summer

is we've actually done matchups by zones on  the pitch so that is a new thing that you're going to see so uh i think hopefully if you like  statistics you'll like this if not switch off now so just to kind of get behind the evolution  of this um like it's a metric that right right that shows that the matchups for for  each team on each area of the field this i used to to write about this in in the uh the match  of the articles um but it's great to have this part automated and then it allows the

matchups to  explore other new and exciting stats as well yeah yeah so let's go into it let's get into it then  so we're gonna have a look at fixture difficulty i know it's been done to death but we've got to  start with it we'll try and cover it as quickly as we can so i'm not going to explain how our fixed  difficulty works because most of you know by now okay uh and if not go back to some of our  evergreen content which has been we've spouted for around the last six weeks um every week about 

how it works but very simply zero best seven worst we look at attack against uh we look at attack  at home attack away defense at home defense away and we work out basis things like raw debt the raw  data there the next year gets hd conceded shots of the box big chances all against one another so  match ups again so we're comparing how they do so remember for people who are  watching um green is good red is bad all right so like firstly attack the top six  teams and this is the raw data this is

just their number between naught and seven so if you're going  into ben krell in spreadsheet with these numbers that's what you put into the your own your  own um rankings in the side rather using ben's numbers shout out to ben i love his stuff  so anyway manchester city would have a attack uh fixed difficulty one the best uh  followed by liverpool 1.2 this is at home chelsea 1.8 leicester 2.4 manchester united  um leads 2.7 and at the bottom reading back up palace 4.5 that'd be bottom brentfor

d 4.5  norwich 4.4 arsenal 3.9 wolves 3.8 villa 3.6 and attacking away we would have liverpool at the  top at 1.5 man city 2 chelsea 2.2 leicester 2.5 manchester united 2.8 and west ham 3.0 replacing  leeds and at the bottom reading up watford 4.7 they'd be bottom they drop a long way based on  the previous records and i think let me just explain on why watford's data's there we actually  use 1920 data as well for watford because they've actually been in the premier league when there  was fans i

n the ground one of the things which we needed to consider um norwich 4.3 wolves  4.3 brighton 4.2 dropping into the bottom six away from home replacing arsenal palace 4.1 still  down there and everton away from home as well i'm going to cover the defense guys and i'll bring  you in um for defensive feature difficulty the best ranks defense is at home our city 1.9 chelsea  2.1 brighton 2.2 spurs leads 2.9 leeds 2.9 fourth equal fourth best for um defense at home based on  my fixed difficulty and

reading up at the bottom uh bottom reading up should say brentford  5 norwich 4.9 burnley 4.1 villa 3.9 west ham 3.9 newcastle 3.9 uh an away defense and  this is where it becomes a bit interesting manchester united 2.3 city 2.4 chelsea 2.5 arsenal  2.0 leicester 2.9 everton 3.4 not a lot changes there but at the bottom leads drop from what fifth  with respect to rankings for um defense at home to 20th away that so they crash off a cliff  um southampton drop from mid table to 19 for 4.9 newcast

le drop a bit to 4.6 palace  is still around there brentford and watford now of course what we don't know is  we don't know about the effect of fans in the ground this is new last year we never even  had home away and i think let's just have a before we start going to the details of these actual  matches guys let's just talk about what's changed and i think how difficult fixture difficulty will  probably have it will probably find it quite tough for a first few weeks um but sorry can i come  to

you first what's your perspective on on how you how you think these you know basically what  you've seen and also what you expect to happen yeah so to be honest like we've been very much  comfortable last season knowing that that is that that wasn't any factor of home and our way of  being a crucial thing in fpl but then you could notice that difference as the motivation factor  was that and the fans were being phased out faced in uh cavani was a great example uh it was the  flag of fagin of las

t season he was striving to play in front of the old trafford faithful and uh  i think he did score a worldly of course offset or not there was another case of bruno but then yeah  it's going to be a huge factor i think players are going to thrive and as you said that leads defense  away and united at home that that's going to be a classic example so oh and the fans have not seen  their uh favorite players playing the stadium master for quite some time so that's gonna be  added more more chance

more uh getting behind players so that's gonna be a lot of excitement  and this should be another motivation factor for players to to go well go hard go get those points  for the fans so this is going to be huge and i should firmly believe that uh players fpl managers  us ourselves need to keep this uh in mind before picking our team because we have been finally  seen man city beating teams without fans uh five goals six goals for the last 18 months or  so but i feel it's going to be a huge huge

thing uh this is the season around and in fact you  say what what for brentford or all data from championship i think they should also to put up  a big fight and printful don't go down easily they are there in the premier league for the very  first time and they are going to give arsenal uh a fight for their bugs and uh chuni seems to know  that fell ownership as well he's been informed he's been owned by three million managers so i  think uh he's going to get something for us yeah we'll see ab

out that gabe can i bring  you on the difference between leeds home and away have you got any perspective on  that i i've been talking to a few uh a couple of leads fans and there's a bit of head scratching  going on you know there's been mention of could it be the pitch was just so bad that nobody could  attack at home and if they've relayed the pitch will that change everything but you know it's a  bit tongue-in-cheek but what's your perspective i mean i mean i think that's a that's a fair  pe

rspective and certainly something to look at i don't i don't know if i have a perspective to  be perfectly honest i i think we don't have any like uh any comparison last season was was such  a unique thing and it's such so to go back and look at i mean i i think it's it's almost uh  it's almost a fool's errand i think i think it's it's impossible to tell the the pitch does  you know you know it could be that sure um that they're used to it it could be just like markers  like you're used to like

your your surroundings and you operate better more efficiently when  when you have an innate kind of awareness of your surroundings so it could be something like  that it could be something to do with emotion um but yeah i have no idea it's a very  strange one it just seems quite extreme but it really does focus the mind on for example this  match up this week away at manchester united right you know and this is where it becomes  this is where it becomes interesting i i do think that the the hom

e teams in game  week especially in game week one there's something special about game week one and i  think the home teams have a serious advantage yeah be interesting to see and and therefore you  know one or two of these games will go on to the games in a few minutes but there's one or two  games where there might not be what you quite what you expect i think there's there could be one  or two there could be one or two traps out there um i think and we'll we'll come on to that anyway  so righ

t let's look at these fixtures themselves and the actual matchups okay so here they are so  um i'm not going to read all the fixtures but look it's very simple look for the greens look  for the reds attack and defense again who's got the best matchups well um i'll come on  to that in a second but look let's be obvious we can see it very clearly that the the teams with  the very best matchups are liverpool and chelsea um liverpool away at norwich chelsea at home to  palace uh manchester united ag

ainst leeds still pretty positive um everton against southampton  that remains to be seen a lot's changed at everton uh and arsenal among others uh have quite positive  matchups with respect to attack and defensive one and uh defensive wise look how little green there  is i think that's the first thing which i notice and that immediately points me away from too  many defenders in my perspective i think i'm i think it almost locks in three starting  defenders for me just looking at this um you're

looking at arsenal against brentford  we've just spoken about how that can go wrong um chelsea obviously have a very very good  matchup against palace um well i think that's it we'll come on to that one but i'm i'm gonna  i'm gonna give you a perspective on this one um and then there's a few others which are  reasonable but apart from that not a great deal so right let's go into the actual summaries  and so there you go top to bottom so attack there's your best ones um we're looking at  liverpo

ol chelsea manchester united everton arsenal uh defensive lines chelsea arsenal  leicester liverpool and manchester united an average so you're attacking  defenders you luke shaws of this world uh your taas manchester city liverpool manchester  united chelsea and leicester have the best match-ups when it comes to an average sort of  player so if we look at the attacking matchups we'll see that liverpool have got there's four  teams with with deltas of two or higher and i think at that point we'r

e starting to get to  a stage where we're thinking someone can give someone a bit of a battering potentially um we  don't know these are arbitrary numbers guys but it's it'll when we come on to these in a second  you'll see where i'm coming from um but defensive wise you've obviously there's only there's only  one with a delta of two and arsenal next at 1.6 so that'd be gay but anything you spot here  before we go into the individual games um are you with me are you seeing  a few clean sheets th

is week i mean uh so i i was on i was on big at the  back in one of my early tankers and it was it was seeing your um the matchups here in the  fdr that that kind of led me away from that and yeah i i think i think you're right i i think  that there could be there could be goals not because not because there are i think there was  a study i don't remember who did it um that that actually concluded that there weren't maybe it  was a wgta that there weren't more uh more goals on the first game wee

k um of the season um i think  it was tom at wgta that that looked into that and and and it's just like any other like any other  game week but i think this this is a special day it will be a special day and i think i would agree  with it i i don't see many clean sheets this week yeah i think i that's how i feel anyway sorry are  you with us on that one yeah i would stick because as i said about the arsenal brentwood game excel  for chelsea i don't see a lot of clean sheets here i i don't even s

ee brighton keeping one i think  only only are being underscored so there should be goals a lot just like how we ended gameweek 38  where we just said just pick three different go for uh go for the ones who can get your attacking  questions and put your money in the friend i think that's going to be the case for gameweek one two  except for chelsea i don't see uh teams keeping a clean sheet in game one that includes uh united  too i think leads will definitely score so yeah i mean when you look

at a lot of the teams of like  um that that we have assets in right like uh like brighton a lot of people have brighton defense  brighton is away right and and it looks like chris wood will be back um a lot a lot of people have  villa players villas away a lot of you know if you want um spurs for example but spurs is home but  they're playing against city uh west ham players and west hem is a way so a lot of the matchups  just don't that it just doesn't match up well for for the defenses i think

and then the players  that we have i i think there's a few i think who's in back knowledge to score the goal on opening day  so even local didn't leave a clean sheet uh yeah yeah yeah because funny you're funny you'll say  that but i think that's where we're going first surprisingly enough um there's already  been comments you know nathaniel's norwich versus liverpool will surely have two and a  half goals well nathaniel we agree with you so he's dead he's uh he's a nice fan yeah he's a  norwic

h fan as well yeah he's he's all right okay yeah well i've i've been to carroll road and i'll  tell you why it can be a bit intimidating i've been there as a groomsman fan many years ago um  and i'll tell you what that place will be rocking yeah you know there'll be dale  you're shouting where are you let's be having you what the dealer will  be there yeah crikey it'll be hilarious yeah so it's all right i'm losing it again  as usual um let's look at this matchup norwich defensively at home 4.9

ranked  19th against liverpool 1.5 ranked first hmm okay you've got my attention okay so  3.4 positive all right give or take a bit of rounding um liverpool and i haven't got norwich  data so i can't compare them both but look let me tell you where the chances come for liverpool  okay top for chances created from the center five per 90. second for chances created from the  right four point six per night it is season data last season season data an equal seventh for  chances created from the left

so not quite as good from there at 3.3 per 90. um i'm going to quote  drafthound this year in this show because i quite like and and uh we've got fpl uh salah abdul who  often quotes an abdul is a friend of the pod so uh please you know please do follow abdul and you  know do go back to the special when he when he very very kindly came onto our show uh and have  a look at what he says he's a great well what he knows know what he's probably forgotten more about  fbi than i'll ever know um but dr

afthound has liverpool uh uh they're at 50 for two and a half  goals or above that's pretty high right let's be honest you know and these are you know you know  i'm not a gambler but you know when when people who are predicting things for gambling you know  these bookies tend to know what they're on about at the end of the day um last year salah started  with a 20-point hole right same again guys entirely possible man i ended with a 16 point  hole in game week 38 got me my captaincy of man it wa

s still one of my best moments of last  season um could he could he do it again um jotter less nailed but 5.09 points per 90 in the  last six game weeks even off the bench um trent there's lots of options semicast will have a  chat about him as well um double or even treble is certainly not the question guys um first of all  let's do the let's have a chat about the yachter against cimicass simon b so uh soria where  do you sit on yota or civicas because i think most people will have trent and sa

lah yeah so  i'm gonna i'm gonna ignore mana we can come to mana in a bit but let's just look at that yacht  or simulcast because i think that's the key one yeah so one thing that i would like to share is  that uh last season worked out pretty well for me that was my best f season and uh one thing  that was that i did pretty well was reducing my defensive transfers uh so having semicolons  in your team uh locks up that third local spot maybe that could go for money that would go  for uh uh but t

he thing is that people miss out people are finally under the assumption that  mani is out of form he's been doing uh doing well pretty much towards the end of the last season  and we saw uh how well he was in gameweek 38 against palace uh he played really well he's been  in good touch in the pre-season as well and hota 2 is a really good option if you have semicars and  say the best probability is that uh uh rob robo comes back gameweek 3 or probably even after the  international break game bef

ore you have an option for three weeks and uh lou will play chelsea in  game week three so you have them for at the max two weeks so even robo comes back game week three  it doesn't matter you haven't for two weeks and then you're gonna waste two transfers on him so i  don't think that's that's wise and this is pretty similar to uh to uh mitchell from last season  crystal ball is same he played for six weeks dropped to three point nine million uh sumikas is  is uh going up like this in terms of

ownership is already he was one person and robert engineers  came in i think he's around 15 percent now already so he's expected to be around 20 25 20  25 percent owned then he's surely gonna drop like flights when he's uh when robert comes back  so that's that's going to cause an imbalance in the team i am not up for it uh going right  away with uh with uh defender down uh yeah but there's two cases to it i i put out a tweet  on this and i got really bang for this and i think uh late racer two

agreed with  me because we got back so much for uh so telling it but but it's two ways it's hard to  uh predict the at the moment but i would still say it's better of going without uh without him i  mean you won't really answer my question would you go for jotter though instead or would you go for  neither uh see at the moment i wouldn't go hota uh that is pretty sure but it's just a matter of  fact if i would have semicars i just have uh two players and probably bring money in somewhere or  the

other uh when their fixtures turn yeah that's that's but you don't see other good four mission  options too but i did put something in my drafts and kept for now but that might change this is  just a temporary trap yeah uh disclaimer people might jump on it later yeah i mean i said you know  um west when vestergaad's going to go to leicester the little 4.0 option was a marty so marty's in  the mud and southampton are in the ship was yeah i talked with earlier um look with respect to simi i  i s

ubtest i i actually am in a slightly different frame of mind to you i just didn't think you don't  look a gift horse in the mat i think you go for it and i think you just rot him on the bench and then  just wild card him out i mean look gabe you've already said that it's your perspective  that you're probably going to wild card early to try and jump on price changes and things  like that i think you know as long as you don't take too many risks and that's why i think a 343  works better for civi

tas than than actually uh any other formation actually because you've got  a little bit more room and you maybe need to have something built around him and and the people  who i've seen who are building around him are building around him with white and alien because  white inhaling both of them rotate really nice you can just rot it you just rot in for if you  have to for three or four weeks you just rot him on the bench if you wow in game week seven so for  me i i just don't think i didn't like

him to start with but the more i look at it the more i like him  um and and i'll say is he is he like is he like mitchell light from last year or is he like is  he gonna be like justin you know the the way you know this so we don't know obviously and then only  hindsight will we'll be able to confirm that but the way i see it is a uh that the way robo rolled  his ankle that's a that's probably i'm guessing at least a four week injury which would put him  back right around after the internationa

l break but maybe but maybe not so um and then at  4.0 you can like you were saying mariner you can you can just stick them on on the end  of your bench and rock and roll but you know i think what surya was saying is that that  that blocks you from say bringing in money and i would say if you if you're looking to bring  in money you should have them for gameweek one and then figure your team out  from from the very beginning he um make an appearance later on  in one of our sections for sure um y

ah  i think the the key that i'll say for liverpool and and their attack and i think for not just  for this matchup but for the season in general is what they do with their chances in the box so  they had um if you look at their attacking stats they line up and really very much in line with  manchester city's attacking stats however their production was nowhere near manchester city's  and a big reason for that is their inefficiency with shots in the box so they they had a few more  shots in the

box than manchester city last season but the liverpool only scored 59 goals from  shots in the box compared to manchester city's 72 um so i i think that's that's kind of how their  attack is going to be they're going to get the ball as quickly as possible to the box um and like  we were saying mane ended the season in good form and he's continued in good form so i i don't think  the loss of robertson will affect mana too much in this matchup but it could in in the next in  the next few years oka

it  better um there is also another point which i've made which is a slight change and that is that  rotation risk is now going to be taken into effect very very slightly not a lot but if you look  there for example salah has a rotation risk of 7.6 okay that's his percentage rotation that's what it  rotated in the last few game weeks of last season so that would deduct 0.76 so it's 10 of that  it would take off the algo so you can see there how it's not really affected him it's  port mane's been

pulled away from salah a bit lower so masala's top up to 86 mana is second  on 82 that's pulled him down because he's 2.3 so he'd have been 84 right something like  that um jotter dropped a long drop further because he's 41 so that tells you what the algo  thinks if rotation isn't there so if you're very confident that yota is going to start and it is  going to get a good portion of time on that pitch but the algorithm actually likes him he jumps  uh above mana correct yeah he puts him in here
