the first world war causes powers
and consequences the World War One [Music] [Music] C cat the first world war was a
conflict involving several world powers it was one of the largest Wars in
history and had not been seen before initially the majority of the fighting
took place in Europe but it soon spread to other regions of the world The War
Began in 1914 and lasted until 1918. it was sparked by rivalries in the Quest for
colonies and Industrial Revolution advancements afterward Western C
ivilization expanded to every
corner of the world the Industrial Revolution led to the rapid production and abundance of various
products in the market to prevent products from overflowing in the market powerful Western
Nations such as England France Germany and others had to implement colonial policies
to seek out raw materials and trade routes when various parties compete to gain the greatest
benefit conflict arose within the European nations conflict and tension in Europe after
the indu
strial revolution had led to a heightened state of anxiety and
the expansion of military alliances eventually Europe realized that a unified
front would best ensure security and stability in times of Crisis especially in
military matters Europe divided into two groups the Central Powers led by Germany
Austria Hungary Italy and the alliances the Allied Powers were led by France Russia and
England including countries in the Commonwealth meanwhile the great powers in Europe were
in conflict o
ver the division of profits one problem that arose during that time was
the struggle of minority groups under the rule of the great Powers such as the Slavs living in
the Balkans who tried to break away secretly in order to establish their own state the movement
of the Slavs was supported by Russia and Serbia the resulting conflicts became known as the
Balkan Wars the events culminated with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand the
heir to the austro-hungarian throne by gabrillo pri
nciple a Bosnian Serb student who aimed to
unite the serbs and declare independence from the austro-hungarian empire on June 28 1914 while
visiting Sarajevo the capital of Bosnia Prince of shot and killed the Archduke and his wife
effectively ending their lives the event has led to a prolonged period of conflict in Europe
and the austro-hungarian government immediately believed that the government of Serbia was behind
the event as a result they presented evidence of the assassination of Arc
hduke Franz Ferdinand and
his wife as a question to Serbia on July 23 1914. the Austrian government has issued a list of
10 demands to Serbia which include various complaints and objections demands are seen
as unjust and a violation of Serbia's rights while Serbia has agreed to almost all of Austria's
proposals there is one that they have refused as they believe it is too much to bear as a result
Serbia has proposed that a special Court be set up between the two countries or that an imparti
al
Authority not involved in the issue make a ruling the Austrian Empire supported by Germany
declared war on Serbia on July 18 1914. this declaration of war by the Austrian
Empire caused a panic throughout Europe with England France and Russia attempting to
mediate the situation through a special Court however their efforts were thwarted by Germany's
assertion that the conflict was solely between the Austrian Empire and Serbia thus other nations
should not interfere in such a situation or
cannot be avoided anymore Serbia is already
preparing for battle while Czar Nicholas II feels that Russia must provide Aid to Serbia he
orders the mobilization of millions of troops and sends them along the railway to strategic
points that the generals have designated to assist Serbia from the attack of Austria-Hungary
Germany was keeping an eye on Russia's movements when Russia mobilized its troops Germany demanded
that they dispersed their forces within 12 hours however Russia refused to
comply leading Germany
to declare war on Russia on August 1 1914. at the same time Germany called on France a Russian Ally
to remain neutral and not interfere in the matter but France refused in Germany declared
war on France on August 3 1914. just two days after declaring war on Russia
Germany informed Belgium of their intentions to March through the country on their way to
war with France however Belgium was denied Germany ignored this rejection and immediately
moved into Belgium on Aug
ust 4th 1914 Germany showed its disrespect for the neutrality of
small country Belgium and declared war on Britain who had initially stated they would
not get involved but changed their stance this was due to Belgium's Grievances and to
uphold the terms of the Treaty of London of 1839. in 1914 powerful Nations joined the war
including five nations Italy initially appeared as a neutral Ally with Central Powers Germany and
Austria-Hungary but eventually joined the opposing Allied Forces due t
o interest in territorial gains
from Austria-Hungary meanwhile the Ottoman Empire had good relations with Germany and was hostile
towards Russia who was a part of the allies England and France joined the Central Powers
just like Belgium which was already oppressed by Germany other countries that later joined
the war also joined the Allies including the United States which joined the Allies in 1917. the
participation of the United States in the war was a turning point in the first World War
when the
world's superpower declared war the conflict began in the beginning Germany followed the
Schlieffen Plan which stated that in the war Germany should attack France first
in order to counter France's strength thus they marched through Belgium and
then moved their forces to fight against Russia in order to weaken Russia this plan
itself contributed to the outbreak of War while Germany attempted to execute the
Schlieffen Plan Belgium had to defend its sovereignty by resisting the Inva
ders England
and France joined forces to fight against Germany causing the German military to slow down
their movements compared to the planned schedule this allowed France more time to defend itself
eventually halting the German advance given this situation Germany's goal of defeating France
quickly was foiled as the Schlieffen Plan failed the mode of warfare then shifted to the trench
warfare after the failure of the Schlieffen Plan the trench warfare was a defensive stance
characterized
by the trench lines being the main line of resistance to conquer the enemy forces one
must rise from the platform and run towards the enemy's platform to break it however even after
breaking the first platform there will be multiple layers of platforms making the battle increasingly
difficult the war will continue to escalate and it will be challenging to achieve Victory without
significant losses and sacrifices the first world war saw the development of a new type of Ward
vehicle the tank
it was first introduced into battle in 1916 but it was not considered a success
as the English tanks were slow and few in number however the tank continued to be improved and
eventually became a major factor in helping the Allies win the war in 1918. the first use of
air power and warfare occurred during World War One as competition to develop the most effective
military aircraft intensified as ground combat became more intense and brutal both sides began
to use aircraft in both air and Na
val operations the Central Powers led by Germany and the
Allied Powers led by Britain and France each tried to develop the best aviation
technology for their military advantage despite continuous efforts in developing
this type of invention it remains a ongoing process until the end of the year 1896. the
first single-seater-powered flight machine was invented with a design featuring two level
Wings which are stronger and easier to control meanwhile the pilot was able to use a Maxim
machine
gun with two barrels simultaneously the outcome of the war was uncertain as both
sides engaged in a flexible and unpredictable battle without any clear leader until significant
events changed the course of the war the US's entry and Russia's withdrawal at the outset the
U.S declared a neutral stance in the conflict Germany began using submarines to attack
Allied ships without clearly defined targets to eliminate enemy supplies leading
to the sinking of a passenger ship carrying American ci
vilians resulting in the death of 114
people near the coast of Ireland on May 7 1915. after that there were seven more
shipwrecks of American merchants the United States was informed that the German
government had offered to become a military ally with Mexico to oppose the U.S this made the U.S
unable to remain indifferent any longer and thus declared war joining forces with its allies on
April 6 1917. the United States participation in the war was welcomed by its allies at the time
becaus
e the mighty power of Russia was conducting the war together and had encountered internal
problems the Russian government was collapsing which ultimately led to the abandonment of the
Eastern front in 1918 Germany launched a major offensive that forced its allies to retreat
and the situation became dire however the situation changed when American troops arrived in
France and joined the fight immediately in July the Allies assessed the situation and saw that
their forces were strong enough t
o attack German troops on the main river front the commanding
officer ordered a heavy attack on the German army this was combined with the arrival of
British tanks to support the assault as a result the German forces struggled to hold
their ground and were forced to retreat in a large-scale withdrawal despite the German soldiers
determined resistance it seemed to be in vain their morale and spirit were declining in
weakness was spreading throughout the army at that time Germany was left alo
ne to face
the war and eventually they were crushed due to the Central Powers allies surrendering in
the war previously internal turmoil in Germany only worsens meanwhile the German Army is
struggling to fight and the Navy is facing problems with mutinous soldiers causing unrest
in cities such as Berlin Munich and others the dire situation has spiraled out of
control while Germany's military is being fiercely attacked by its allies realizing that
Victory is unattainable the leaders of Germ
any have come to the decision to end the war before
it becomes worse the German government has sent a request for peace to president Thomas Woodrow
Wilson of the United States seeking a ceasefire Thomas Woodrow Wilson established the 14 points
which emphasized important concepts of freedom of speech Justice and fairness for the country
and its people while Germany was taking actions in this matter meanwhile countries involved in
the war declared defeat one after another first Bulgaria surre
ndered on September 30th followed
by the Ottoman Empire on October 30th and finally the austro-hungarian Empire on November 3rd on
November 7 1918 Germany accepted the Armistice conditions and withdrew its forces to behind
the Rhine River and also canceled the Treaty of restless made with Russia the defeat and major
Uprising caused by the discontent of the public with the weakened Army led to Kaiser Wilhelm II
abdicating and fleeing to the Netherlands today Germany announced a change in its
governance to a
federal republic bringing an end to its monarchy change came amidst a return to World Peace
after the end of the war and was marked by the signing of numerous peace treaties the most
significant of these treaties was the Versailles treaty which followed the 14 points proposed
by President Thomas Woodrow Wilson initially the treaty faced opposition as it was seen
as putting too much pressure on Germany finally Germany agreed to sign the Versailles
treaty on June 28 1919. th
e treaty came into effect on January 10 1920 in Germany was obligated
to follow it without exception this treaty sparked a Resurgence of nationalism in Germany and led
to the second world war in the future thank you for following and watching don't forget to hit
