Hey friends welcome to Gardening with CreeksideĀ
and this is part two of the rainy day at Creekside now before you say anything I know that we haveĀ
got gorgeous blue sky it literally just popped out it has been raining all day we did part oneĀ
on Monday so you can check that video out if you missed it we were in production all day because itĀ
was pouring down rain clearly it has cleared out and uh so now it's not rainy day it's a beautifulĀ
day what we're going to do is I am going to take you a
round to the gardens we're even going toĀ
go up to Mimi's garden and we are going to be on the hunt for all things flowering because yesĀ
it is mid late uh February here in North Carolina Zone 8A spring is banging on the door still quiteĀ
a while uh to before it officially arrives but it is here the gardens are saying different thingsĀ
I want to show you some beautiful uh flowers in the garden so so we are standing up here rightĀ
on the edge of the chicken cpop can we just stop for a moment and
appreciate all of the jonquilsĀ
that are blooming uh so jonals daffodils that a junell is a type of daffodil jonals do reallyĀ
well here in the South they handle the heat and humidity like Champions um Mimi and I in lateĀ
fall planted three different clumps this is gigantic star from our friends at color BlendsĀ
and it gets its name because look how massive that flower is these are blooming earlier becauseĀ
this area is really warm right we're right here at the chicken Coupe and so you can see w
e've gotĀ
a clump way back there in the back then we've got these guys right here and then uh the reallyĀ
nice bigger spectacular display are these guys right here they're all gigantic star plantedĀ
them um and they're just phenomenal love love love this bulb now I do have some uh these areĀ
the ones I want to say this was a blend that I had gotten a couple of years ago from um fromĀ
Van England and it was a like a blend for the South so you can see we've got some differentĀ
um different colors
different kind of shapes and everything we even have some little littleĀ
tiny little petite ones I wish that there was smell Vision because especially the gigantic starĀ
oh my gosh y'all they smell so phenomenal they are just an absolute Delight to smell the fragranceĀ
on them is great so daffodils are definitely uh making their uh appearance here in North NorthĀ
Carolina and are just oh my gosh I mean that's like the sure sign of spring in my opinion isĀ
when the junil start blooming growing up
my mama always called them jonquils because uh soĀ
they're the Jan quillas right so if you are in the South and maybe you struggled with daffodilsĀ
before uh when you're buying your bulbs make sure they are the Jan quillas because jonquils theyĀ
will do really well here in the South now I do want to give you an update uh you you saw that uhĀ
yeah my alarm is going off because uh our Emily is home she came home from college so she's arrivingĀ
and brena's like who is that what am I going to do yo
u it's always a good thing when you're aĀ
when your baby comes home from college for the weekend all right back to flowers uhĀ
so in this fall I think you were with me because Mimi and I were in this Garden togetherĀ
and we planted the unique stone ears and so I did violas and then I underplanted withĀ
the Tulips well they're doing three of the four of their ears are doing greatĀ
and then y'all look at this seriously there's always one problem child right so IĀ
do not know what was going on but
what well I do know what was going on but the TulipsĀ
lifted up the entire mass of violas and the other tulips these tulips were doing greatĀ
these this one pushed everybody else up so I tried to resurrect it see right here here'sĀ
another tulip right there so I tried to do my best it is what it is it's all about messes andĀ
successes here right okay so the because right we are in the season of Lent and one of the plantsĀ
that I absolutely love and adore this is the time of year where they are i
n all of their glory andĀ
this is probably without a doubt my um my biggest hore my most beautiful hore let me show you howĀ
huge this thing is y'all look at that is that not unbelievable this is probably 18 inches 2 inchesĀ
wi 18 sorry 18 inches to 2 feet wide gorgeous I want to say that this is mahogany snow I have hadĀ
it for years and it is always it clearly loves this spot we have got buds and blooms nice tightĀ
compact growth on it adore this plant if you have your hellor make sure you tri
m back all your oldĀ
foliage you can see right here where I had taken back all the foliage uh that was last year'sĀ
and so that way these beautiful flowers can absolutely shine next door we have the white byĀ
the gate chamia and we have got Buds and Flowers the flowers are kind of hidden a little bit soĀ
we're going to come in here and do a little uh a little look see a little Peak SE they areĀ
nice Pure White this is an older flower right here trying to get in they're all kind of hidingĀ
undern
eath the foliage but this was the first this is the best year that it has bloomed last yearĀ
of course we had problems with the uh the Arctic blast that came through at Christmas and reallyĀ
did a number on this plant so I'm just tickled I'm tickled white to get any kind of blooms on this IĀ
am training it up against this uh I don't what do you call this this lovely trellis thank you thereĀ
we go trellis it's a Friday afternoon folks so as it grows I just come in here and attach it upĀ
and and j
ust kind of Pull It in a little bit so this is a japanica nice big fat leaves on it andĀ
it blooms at this time as this grows my flowers are just going to get bigger every single yearĀ
and be nice and happy with your Chamas it is a great thing to go ahead and start fertilizingĀ
them with Holly tone Holly tone is a wonderful thing to because they are acid loving plants IĀ
will start uh maybe in like a month or so with the first application you can give your ChamasĀ
if you're trying to get them to
grow well and get them really well established which is whatĀ
I'm trying to do here you can feed them I want to say up to three times um you kind of want toĀ
stop by July ish so that way the new growth has time to get hardened off and get all those budsĀ
get nice and formed before you know the uh the fall temperatures hit now let's Mose you on toĀ
the back because I have got such pretty things back there coming around to the uh farest pansyĀ
bed here in the back so many fun things y'all that ar
e going on look at this this is from IĀ
believe this was color Blends also last year it is the wood blend of bulbs and so it's just a aĀ
mixture of bulbs that come together you plant them you know however you want to but right now theĀ
daffodils are blooming we had some high ense in here um some all sorts of little things right soĀ
you can see the blue in there but I just kind of did these all throughout I did these last year andĀ
uh they came back really well and are doing great of course the h
ellor right you were with me whenĀ
we pruned these and trimmed back the old foliage and they are blooming and just doing great hereĀ
we have a double look at that isn't that gorgeous I love it this is another one another Clump thatĀ
does really well um really nice and establish you can see just massive massive amounts of flowers onĀ
this this too is nice and big this is close again to that kind of that same size of that mahoganyĀ
snow 18 in to 2 ft apart on those guys and then right here where u
h where Brena is on the sheĀ
just saw a bee sorry about Miss B saw a be um right here look at my pulmonaria look isn't thatĀ
glorious this is the uh pinka blue pink of Blue from Proven Winners it has it starts out as pinkĀ
flowers so if you can see the pink and then they turn blue now I need to get in here and do someĀ
tidying up uh on this bed obviously I need to lay down some new compost and some new mulch I needĀ
to come in here and prune up the edges right so don't ever think please I certai
nly don't uh IĀ
don't subscribe to that that everything has to be quote perfect before you can show it and shareĀ
it with other people perfect is um only found in the dictionary you are not going to find that inĀ
real life there is no such thing as perfect there are perfect moments there are not perfect youĀ
know Gardens right there's perfect moments in the garden and so um just be easy on yourself soĀ
enjoy it enjoy the beauty that is there uh we also you were with me when we did these guys so
thisĀ
is going to be another fun one I did the trough right and we have those beautiful violas and thenĀ
the Tulips that are going to be coming up in there oh my gosh so much fun now my Edge woria thatĀ
you can see right here is putting on some buds hold your horses because here in just a littleĀ
bit we're going to go up to Mimi's garden and we are going to see her edgeworthia which is likeĀ
if you were to look for the perfect Edge worth you then these are going to show up because oh my goshĀ
th
ey are stunning now look at this now the sun's a little different over here but the cherry treeĀ
is blooming so this is an Okami cherry tree it's going to be one of your earliest blooming cherryĀ
trees my yoshinos that are up in the BM are Nam thinking about blooming however this Okami sheĀ
is and so we get to see this because of course it's back here in the backyard starting to openĀ
up some beautiful flowers just lovely now it was raining like I said earlier when I was back hereĀ
I think it wa
s last year this tree was buzzing oh there she there's one of them uh with honeybeesĀ
so we have I don't know if you can see but there is a honeybee up there there's a couple of themĀ
they're starting to come out at after the rain but those aamis are just so fun such beautifulĀ
delicate flowers yeah I'm seeing some more honey bees that are coming out but the cherry tree loveĀ
this even starting to drop some petals down there on the ground uh this tree has been in here thisĀ
may be going into her
fourth year so we are we're making progress she is filling out we planted herĀ
as a 15 gon and she is just she's growing and so very very exciting now what else is growing and itĀ
was funny because my Megan my middle daughter want middle child wanted me to plant uh pink tulipsĀ
this year so that she could come out and cut them she is definitely uh she is the flower girlĀ
too as well so she wanted me to plant pink tulips so that she could come out in the spring and cutĀ
tulips and bring them ins
ide so she was like Mom I hry been do this video so I can go cut someĀ
some tulips because guess what look look right there first of all the violas doing great andĀ
then this is the smooch blend from our friends at color Blends uh nice shades of pink the hotĀ
pink is blooming first this is definitely the hottest Spar spot in my yard and so these guys areĀ
blooming first they are short I do not know why they are as short as they are um color blend didĀ
pre-chill them for me I do know though we ha
ve had some really weird and abnormally warm temperaturesĀ
so I think that's probably part of the reason why they're still short uh but my gosh y'all I don'tĀ
care they're beautiful aren't they I told Megan I was like well you're just going to have to putĀ
them in a little short vase so these are just starting to uh open up and develop such fun colorĀ
here on on the patio look at that so now you get to see them because once I get done with the videoĀ
Megan may come and clearcut them out and you
know what I am perfectly fine with that because thatĀ
is why I planted them and again I want to enjoy them so even here in the deck boxes we have ourĀ
first ones that are starting to bloom of course we put in right the violas the Euphoria I okay theĀ
Ascot Rainbow all sorts of great things in there and then put those tulips in and they are they'reĀ
coming up everywhere so I did this smooch blend all throughout and um back here in the backyardĀ
so it's going to be a lot of fun now this is still s
mooch down here but this is not going to be quiteĀ
as warm because it is in the landscape they will come on and develop but I kind of like the factĀ
that they are not all blooming at the exact same time the wind is starting to come in because isĀ
going to be cooler so uh we're going to deal with some wind now uh let's bbop around to the frontĀ
right quick and let me show you uh one of the other flower beds we are now in the uh front yardĀ
and we're going to head up to the BM here in a second but
we have more jonquils here in the frontĀ
that are blooming so stinking excited about it the daes are popping up yes I know we could probablyĀ
put come in here and do a little fresh mulch H it is what it is I'm just going to choose to ignoreĀ
that and I'm going to enjoy these beautiful beautiful jonquils that are so stinking happy I doĀ
not remember this exact blend it came from color Blends planted these last year and they are doingĀ
great I mean look at that they have all popped up they have g
ot lots of buds on them beautifulĀ
nice orange on the throat with those really sweet yellow petals it is great now what we're goingĀ
to do let's head head over to the BM you were part of that Journey with us I think when we wereĀ
planting the thousands of tulips throughout the nursery these are the ones that are first crackingĀ
some color and so the ones at the nursery are not cracking color so we're going to look at theseĀ
first the yellow is definitely blooming it is a blend this is the um ble
nd that has yellow andĀ
has red and it has a deep purple in it clearly yellow is the first yes again they're short andĀ
so that's all right I don't care they're pretty they're yellow and they are flowers so I am goingĀ
to thoroughly enjoy them they are just there's a little red one starting to show some color so hereĀ
we have red just a little bit of red can you see that red and then we've got the yellows that areĀ
starting to to um to show some really fun color look at that oh my goodness it's
so exciting ohĀ
there's another good red one right up there in the front uh so I'm telling you I think as gardenersĀ
we are naturally tend to be um more optimistic people right because I think you have to beĀ
optimistic if you're going to Garden you've got to get in here and just believe of what is goingĀ
to come maybe not what you see right now so that's what's so fun about planting these tulips in anyĀ
kind of bulb right you plant that and it's just this little hard like little nugget dreaming
ofĀ
what it's going to be and then you actually see it start to happen and come through fruition and itĀ
is just so so fun and exciting all right these are doing well uh let's go up we've got some helborĀ
we're going to look at and then we're going to make our way we're making our way to Mimi's houseĀ
so we're going to go look at Mimi's house too okay let's go when we planted this little WoodlandĀ
Garden oh gosh last last spring March I'm not remember sure when we actually planted it I wantedĀ
to fill it in with in little pockets with the hbor and these are some of the Frost kiss seriesĀ
I know it's Frost kiss because if you look at the foliage it has a beautiful kind of variegatedĀ
veining look to it and just so much fun all three of these are different but just gorgeous colorsĀ
this time of year we want loads of color right loads of color in our shade Gardens and speakingĀ
of shade garden so Mimi's house is just right Beyond me she has got I told you earlier like theĀ
most perfect s
pecimen of edgeworthia let's go up there and look at it I think you know how muchĀ
I adore coming up to my mama's Garden uh I was driving by the other day and I almost ran off theĀ
road cuz I was like what is that blooming look at this this is Crimson candles this is a chamia umĀ
it's got honeybees in it absolutely covered in these stunning pink flowers just spectacular sheĀ
has had this here for um gosh how many years six or seven years I believe it is gorgeous isn'tĀ
it though and then it's ri
ght here beside the Windchimes love it uh so right talk about beingĀ
optimistic planting those plants uh for the future that's why I am planting more Chamas in myĀ
yard now because in 10 years I want to be able to walk out and see things like this in my yardĀ
right now my Chamas are quite small um as you can tell like with my white by the gate right soĀ
they are small but that's all right I know that they're going to get there and just be absolutelyĀ
beautiful just like this Crimson candles um i
t is a Japonica and just just gorgeous now we're goingĀ
to Mosey on over here because talking about when you drive by and about running off the road it isĀ
um these Edgeworth is so back here oh my goodness y'all just wait so edgeworthia is I posted aĀ
picture of mine uh at the nursery of Bloom of mine and it people are quite fascinated by itĀ
so it's edgeworthia chrysanthia and these are shrubs this is when they are really in all ofĀ
their Glory so you can see here that she has two uh that is wh
at these beautiful shrubs areĀ
right here but coming out of winter going into spring they do these beautiful kind of like aĀ
butter cup yellow flowers on the tips and they tend to be a little bit more turned down theyĀ
have the most amazing fragrance and she said she said I planted them here so that I wouldĀ
get the fragrance throughout the yard um and then once they're finished blooming they will putĀ
on some really kind of like elongated almost like a silky kind of texture of a leaf but I mean
Ā
y'all these plants are stunning and there's honeybees uh that are on them but the again IĀ
can't describe the fragrance to you it's almost very similar to a um a tea a sweet OS mantis butĀ
slightly different this one is huge I mean it's probably uh 7t and width do you don't prune itĀ
you just leave it alone of course she has got helor all underneath it she has got just y'allĀ
there are I see some snow drops back there but the the the blooms on this are just unbelievableĀ
it only comes in yello
w cuz somebody asked me does it come in any other colors nope this is it youĀ
don't need any other colors once you smell this this is all you need uh but I I just adore how sheĀ
allows the helor these are kind of the old timey helor that naturalize they put out the seeds andĀ
they drop um but she has all sorts of different ones this is a gorgeous one right here um butĀ
she also told me she said I've got um I've got of course she's got tons of helor throughout allĀ
of her Gardens because she is t
hat predominantly dry shade garden um but she has some her pulmonĀ
area is blooming as is her Prim roses so let's go find those and see those okay my friends I foundĀ
the prim roses she has this fun little bed right here um that uh we're going to get Brynna outĀ
of here she smells Rosie so my parents have a doberman named Rosie so we're trying to trying toĀ
keep Brena focused here look at these Prim roses y'all oh my goodness so stinking cute don't askĀ
me what colors they are I do not know uh l
ike what varieties they are we're just going to enjoy themĀ
if you find Prim roses and they uh do well in your area grab them right because they are like kborĀ
as far as this is the time of year when they are going to be blooming and thriving in the gardenĀ
just so sweet and delicate popping up mixed in with your hellor right so there is a pink Frost uhĀ
all sorts of beautiful ones and I got to get the dog out of here before Mama shoots me all rightĀ
now let's go look at her pulmonaria all right
my friends so I couldn't find Mimi's pulmonaria thatĀ
was blooming uh and Brynna found Rosie so we're g to we're going to mosy our way back home now uhĀ
but before we know it if you remember the tour that we did at Mimi's uh Garden in the springĀ
gosh two years ago these are the aelas that are going to be in full massive bloom canot wait forĀ
it hopefully it will be a good year for the aelas to give us loads of beautiful color um can youĀ
see that Crimson candles though out there just spectacul
ar so um I know that this is kind of aĀ
very different kind of a a little bit more of a free form uh type Garden Tour but I just wantedĀ
to share with you all of the beautiful plants that are flowering and that you get to get a littleĀ
glimpse of what's happening in the gardens here in North Carolina hang in there my friends springĀ
will be coming to you very soon uh thanks for this little informal just very kind of informal wouldĀ
be the word to do it a garden tour of flowering things in our Ga
rdens here in North Carolina asĀ
always we appreciate you thanks so much for gring with Creek Side as crazy as it may be sometimesĀ
we appreciate you see you in the next video bye friends can we go home let's go home come on let's go

Oh my goodness! Hearing Brynna barking and then whining with excitement over Emily coming home almost brought me to tears! The gardens are beautiful. Enjoy your precious family time š
Yup! I did this with my neighbor yesterday, ran around and looked at flowers, and plants, and even found a bald eagle, a honeybee nest, deer tracks, and four beaver slides they created from the creek to come up and eat our corn. š Cheers!! Raining and windy right now, gonna be super chilly again tonight. āļøāļø
Tell Mimi āthank you ā for allowing you to take us on this tour of her beautiful garden ā£ļø
We all needed this! Spring is on the way!
My word, Jenny! If I didn't see it with my own eyes, I'd never believe it. Gorgeous, all simply gorgeous! You certainly made my day here in zone 7b. All of my tulips and daffodils have come up, but none are in bloom yet. My helleborus are in bloom , but nowhere near as stunning as yours. Loved seeing all the fun color. Thank you for getting my day off to an amazing start. š
Good morning, Jennyāļø The rain š§ļø is on its way today up here in Boston. These garden tours have me so excited to get in the dirt! Mimiās gardens are so fun! Have a Blessed Day šš¶

Best tour ever just searching out the first bloomers of the season!!! And I love to be in Mimiās garden! Being in the woods and finding all these sweet little flowers is magical!!! Thanks Mimi! Meganās tulips are so pretty. Daffodils are ready to bloom here in 6a. I saw a pic from New Orleans and everything was blooming! Our turn will come! Thanks for the awesome video!
Loved the video! Everything is gorgeous thank you Mimi for the little tour of your the beautiful bushes that are blooming!
I love garden tours like this Jenny! They are always really helpful to see how other gardenerās spaces look this time of year. ā¤
That is one gorgeous hellebore!
It's so nice to see the beautiful flowers blooming already! No sign of any flowers for us yet, but it gives us something to look forward to! š š¼ šø š»
I love your hellebores! I fear I overdid the cleanup of mine but maybe I just need to wait a bit. You are about a month ahead of me. You are a great teacher and motivator. I have adopted your attitude that we do our best and learn and enjoy what works. Grace in gardening!
So fun to see all the bulbs blooming! We watched you plant them.
Thanks Jenny, your tour gives me some hope that spring is right around the corner. Loved seeing some beautiful flowers. āļøš« šš
The tulips are short because they were planted at the warm part of the house. Heat makes them stay short. Down south we need to plant them at the northern side of the property, which is the coolest and part shaded so they become tall. They love cool/cold places. I plant all my tulips in pots down here and keep in the coolest parts of the property and get tall and gorgeous but unfortunately are treated as annuals as they don't comeback to bloom next year. I love them tho.
I really enjoyed seeing all the blooms. You have done a wonderful job of creating beautiful spring blooming areas in your yard.
Coming out of winter into spring is my favorite time of year. Hyacinth and daffodils are blooming and thereās the tiniest shade of new green leaves on the trees. I just love it š
Beautiful Jenny!
Totally enjoyed this. Just a relaxing stroll through yourās and your Moms gardens.
