Gov. Newsom says Target worker blamed him for retail theft in CA

Governor Newsom said he confronted a Target worker in the Sacramento area who didn't stop a thief from stealing. He then says the worker told him "The governor lowered the threshold" and that there's no accountability, before she recognized him and asked for a photo. https://abc7ne.ws/3Oryjz8 #gavinnewsom #california #crime #theft #politics #abc7news

it started moments before a Wednesday press conference involving the mayors of California's big cities Governor Gavin Newsome shared an encounter he had with a Target employee after seeing a shoplifter keeps walking out as we're checking out the woman says oh he's just walking out he didn't pay for that I said well why aren't you stopping him she goes oh the governor although it's unclear if Grand Theft would have applied to this situation Newsome said he told the worker that at $950 California
has the 10th toughest threshold in the US for grand theft she looks at me twice then she freaks out she calls everyone over wants to take photos I'm like no I'm not taking a photo we're having a conversation where's your manager how are you blaming the governor and it was you know $380 later and I was like why am I spending $380 everyone can walk the hell right out the chairwoman of the California Republican party gave a shout out to the worker on X saying in her post that Nome and Democrats are
to blame for surging crime in the state according to State data shoplifting totals in 2022 are higher than 2021 in 2020 but still lower than pre-pandemic levels political analyst Nolan Higden says it's no surprise that as Governor Nome is taking blame Nome is certainly been active in state politics here uh for years at this point um so he definitely Bears some of the responsibility but you know a lot of the things that have to do with crime and or the lack of accountability when it comes to Cri
me uh these have been structural issues that are that are decades in the making in a response to ABC7 Newsome's office highlighted his efforts to address crime and improve Public Safety including a 310% increase in the annual operations to combat organized retail crime still if crime rates go up hiden said it might only be more difficult for leaders in a blue State like California to defend their policies unlike nationally League where you can you know blame Trump or or blame Mitch McConnell it'
s really tough to do that in a state like California and so Democrats have to own a lot of these problems and I think that's why you you see him and others kind of struggling to find the right response for how to deal with it in the South Bay Zach Fuentes ABC 7 News

@g26s239

Newsome and his party ARE at fault.

@raulg.6643

That was right on Target. Newsom is a pathetic governor.

@MamaHarperr

If that employee tried to stop the shoplifter and he hurt her, the employee would be fired, and the thief would be on the streets in 24 hours. This man is delusional.

@dunsmuir238

Now he is suddenly anti-crime???? He has ruined this state.

@thomasrobinson182

The Target worker is correct and more honest then Governor Newsom. I'll vote for the Target employee.

@User-54631

“Where is your manager?” Newsom went full Karen?

@MissPepperss

What? Is he serious? It's his fault.

@proudasiangirl576

There should be NO dollar amount theshold to prosecute for stealing. Stealing should be a crime, period!

@mastercabbage

“Why am I paying $380” Yeah Gavin. A lot of people are asking that question. And not all of us are millionaires with governor salaries.

@timg2973

Gavin "where is your manager?" what a KAREN...

@baronvon9190

Funny how a retail worker is smarter than the Governor.

@saga2760

WHY YOU DIDN"T STOPPED HIM??!!! Because a useless entitled politician passed several stupid laws.

@mrhittingcoach

He's the worst fucking governor we've ever had!

@keithb6717

Gets criticized. Asks to see the manager to complain about her attitude He’s a Karen!

@davidjackson7281

That smart worker's remarks hit the target's bullseye.

@XXtheJUMPoffXX

He really asked the worker why she isn’t stopping the shoplifter? Cause people don’t wanna get shot dead while working retail

@kyshac81

What he’s basically admitting to is, He has no idea what the hell he’s signing into law. And he expects the Target employee to chase down someone robbing the store? But his Handmaidens on the Local City level like the mayor of Oakland, have essentially defunded the police.

@Brad88ford

He tells this story not knowing he's making himself look like a fool.

@alexmousouris8997

He’s a dictator, he doesn’t handle criticism with any class at all

@davidcarik1761

Lets not forget that he has a 24/7/365 fully ARMED security detail, staffed by active, full time CHP Officers who could have arrested the shoplifter ON THE SPOT!! 100% his security detail was RIGHT THERE next to him!!! Why doesn't HE go after the shoplifter if he's so mad? He's a fit, spry, young man! Total B.S.! He has been involved in the "de-criminalization of ALL crime" for a couple DECADES!!!
