I suspect that the government charge of car manufacturer's to force them to sell EV's will go the same way as the proposed "boiler tax". If Jo Public isn't ready/willing to buy these in the quantity envisaged by the government, those manufacturer's will just hike their prices to recover the cost of the fines (and in turn force the government to U Turn).

@jameshughesdon5370

I had VTG 3 years ago. Nice idea but the first unit was always faulty. the secound unit then pushed our voltage up so high it damaged loads of equipment in our house. Nice idea but a long way to go yet. ( we ripped the final unit out last year)

@LeighWinspear

Hmmm. Now where can I work and get free charging/electricity whilst on a job site?

@kennshearer526

As an IDBuzz owner I was not aware that I could do V2H. As far as I am aware VW are some way off from implementing this feature.

@DimDonut23

Be good when V2H (and V2G) becomes widely available.

@andysims4906

One of my mates bought a EV it was 3 years old at the time . He kept it for 3 years . During that time he was telling everyone it’s fantastic. Even telling me I should get one . He got quite agitated if I said anything even slightly negative about if . All the time he carried on praising it up. Roll on after 3 years he finally said he was wrong. It was a complete waste of money. It was a good car but he spent half his life changing it. That’s if he could find a charger working . Ripped of for servicing . (Hang on it’s a EV ) it had heated seats but couldn’t use them to you paid extra for a app . The list goes on. When he sold it he lost thousands. Even he said he was a typical EV owner . They will never admit they are wrong and have wasted their money. He now drives a petrol car and even his local garage can repair it . Now all those EV people will love the idea of their car powering their home. They don’t care if it shortens the life of the battery . Almost certainly invalidating the battery warranty

@bernardwoods5361

The Omagh hum has been reported before. A 30 hz hum was recorded by Brent , London,experts, unable to locate the source. Ask who hears it and you'll be surprised how widespread the problem is.

@sergiofernandez3725

Hi eFiXX Have you seen or heard of The Housing (Scotland) Act 2006 changes. Come into effect 1st Mar 2024 it affects rental dwelling in Scotland? A valid EICR does not mean the dwelling is compliant as it may not have an 30mA RCD present. Might be worthy of a new story.

@A.Y.A

The selected words of the week are crackdown and overlord  . And as always thank you very much. It's really fun to see the electricity news, I appreciate it very much.

@craigwatson2298

Putting aside the perennial issue of increasing the number of charge/discharge cycles during the expected life of the EV battery, possibly shortening its useful life, V2H is a potentially very helpful way of reducing peak demand on the local network and the amount of generation required. The move from V2H to V2G is where some additional problems emerge, principally localised voltage rise. Like V2H, a lot of commentators regard V2G as a largely altruistic way of "helping out the grid", even with the not unreasonable expectation that money changes hands to compensate the owner of the V. Thing is, if compensation or incentives encourage EV owners/operators to export energy from EV batteries, or other sources of energy, problems with the network voltage getting too high are a real possibility in many locations. Much depends on the number of exporting 'prosumers' and the network topography but I sense that such mere 'details' will be glossed over by the car sales executive in much the same way that potential EV customers may be led to believe that they can plug in and charge as much as they want, whenever they want.

@terrymackenzie6784

V2G sounds like a good idea but the politicians pushing it need to see for themselves if they can make it financially viable I've thought about it a lot and it doesn't make sense. Better to simply buy a dedicated home battery system and a cheaper EV that's what I've done and am already benefitting and I don't need to wait for the technology and legislation to catch up

@mreevesh

Is powering the home from the car not going to lead to a reduction in service of the car battery and therefore requiring them to be replaced sooner. What’s the stance on recycling EV batteries at present?

@IM35461

I still don't think our electricity network will be up to the increased load of EV's electric cooking, electric hot water and Heat Pumps for heating. My rural road is powered from a 100KVa 11kv / 415v Transformer (pole mounted) and it feeds twelve properties. (all single phase except one). A 100KVa transformer has a secondary current of 133 Amps per phase so if the load over the three phases is a perfect balance that is 3x133A = 399A and with twelve homes 399/12=33.3 Amps per property (About 7.6Kw continuous per property). The overhead cables from the transformer are 70mm. So it all works fine at the moment and I know gadgets exist to stop a property drawing more than the service cut-out fuse rating (60Amp in my case). I don't think you can pole mount a 500KVa transformer so along with the cost of that some kind of building would be required. Assuming my maths are correct, who will pay for all these upgrades and are the "powers" that be just pretending it is not a multi trillion pound country wide issue.

@gino2465

You can buy a stand alone device which uses Chadmo connection to vehicles which will give you access to a vehicle battery and return to home. Trouble is its 3k. There are some ev chargers that will hit the market but again in the region of 3K. . And like another person stated if an issue arrives and damages your car good by warranty. These cars can be terigated and it will show up on diagnostics. I have had my 62kw Nissan now for just under 3 years. Fantastic to drive. BUT Long tips its hard work. We did a weekend away last year 4.5 hours each way total weekend time to charge the car for our weekend break was 5 hours 40 minutes. So add this to 9 hours. Misses not impressed. And it cost us more as each stop warranted coffee and more food at high costs. So my advise is keep a diesel as the ev is grand around town. For those who don't have one and want one , understand that they take a good 7 hours to charge at home. From 28% to 100%.

@uncletrashman

incredibly & excruciating

@jamesmoon5632

Thats great you only get so many charges on these EV batteries so £10000 battery change every few years sounds good

@G1ZQCArtwork

Words are, Excruciating, and Molded.

@northeastcorals

This method of powering your home with your EV could lead to "hundereds of £ in savings". Now I'm definately not an expert in this field so this is a genuine question of wouldn't this method also vastly increase the charging cycles on your extremely expensive EV battery, which in turn would reduce it's lifespan? If so has this been included in working out these predicted "savings" 🤔

@roberthuntley1090

One caution - I assume that the extra charge/discharge cycles on the car battery might shorten its lifespan. In due course, I would like to see a detailed cost/benefit breakdown of this idea.

@Jasonf-km5mq

excruciating, moulded
