Hi everyone in today's video, I'll be guiding you the basic strokes of calligraphy So be prepared and let's learn it together The first thing you should know in calligraphy is the thick and thin strokes basically when you want to write downward It has to be thick strokes and to write upward it should be thin strokes. in order to achieve the thick and thin strokes one of the most important beginning concepts of calligraphy is to master your grip on the pen The angle at which you hold it really ma
kes a difference in your ability to achieve that thick and thin stroke variation There are seven basic strokes of calligraphy first is the entrance strokes Start by placing the tip of your pen at the base line then draw a thin up stroke with a slight curve Second is the underturn. Draw a stroke downward and before you reach the base line Begin to transition to the thinnest stroke your pen will create forming a u-shape Third, is the overturn. Begin making a thin upstroke by using little to no pre
ssure on your pen Create a curve toward the right that resembles an upside-down u shape Fourth, is the oval. To create the oval start with a thin upstroke and draw a line counterclockwise that curves to the left Then begin transition into a thick downstroke that curve downward and back again to a thin upstroke Next is the ascending stem loop. Create a thin stroke that curves counterclockwise maintaining light pressure Continue curving around until you start going downward then transition slowly
into a straight, thick downstroke Next is the descending stem-loop start with full pressure Create a thick down stroke and begin to transition into a thin stroke while maintaining a thin stroke, curve the stroke counterclockwise Lastly is the compound curve. To create the compound curve Start by making a thin upstroke Then create a curve that resembles an upside-down u- shape Once you are drawing your stroke downward, slowly transition from thin to thick Then transition back to a thin upstroke
to make your way back up Try this practice drills of the basic strokes to achieve the thick and thin strokes Focus on the position of your hand, your grip, your technique, and the forming of the stroke. Basic strokes are important as you will need it to create alphabets For example to create the small letter 'a', As you can see I am using Different colors to show which strokes I'm applying First, I take the entrance stroke and then the oval and Lastly is the under turn and if we combine it toget
her it became the small letter a Extra tips to master your calligraphy is that you should practice your alphabet in thick and thin strokes Remember the concept of thick down thin up. Also try to learn your alphabet or challenge yourself to write long sentences in paragraphs in cursive style It is a good practice for you to join up your letters to form words If you're struggling in achieving the perfect calligraphy like you have seen in social media and try copying their styles It's good to learn
that way But try to practice without looking at others artwork because different people have different styles in lettering their calligraphy. When you master the fundamentals and understand how letter forms are made You can confidently develop your own style and processes for creating brush calligraphy The next tip is that when holding the brush pen It's all about the angle. The angle at which you hold your brush pen will allow you to create those thick and thin strokes You must also maintain y
our grip as you write. You will naturally make subtle position changes when necessary But overall you should always be holding the pen at an angle. Take your time to practice each chance you get. It doesn't have to be for hours or even one hour But the more you touch the pen, learn how to it writes and practice your strokes You will slowly gain more control and understand how to achieve the brush calligraphy you desire All the best! :)
