The TEC Show

what's going on everyone welcome back to the show  so today I'm going to show you guys a good clip this is Senator Bernie Sanders he's going to be  talking about social security Social Security reform he's also going to be talking about the  retirement crisis and he held a hearing last week and I'm showing you some of that hearing but  this was an actual interview on CNN and they were talking a little bit about the hearing and some  of the problems when it comes to Social Security and the retire
ment crisis so we're going to focus  on that in this video but first off you guys can do me a fa please like the video subscribe to the  channel hit that little bell notification and then click all by clicking all you'll get notified  anytime we post a video we do daily videos here so by clicking the Bell notification clicking all  you should be getting updated every day and just a reminder thank you for your support I really  appreciate it and if you'd like to follow me on Twitter and thread yo
uan at the Tec show live  okay so I'm going to show you guys this clip it's a little lengthy it's about seven or eight minutes  but I think it's good information so he's like I said he's going to talk about social security  he's going to talk about the retirement crisis he's going to talk about corporate greed he's  going to talk about a lot of different things and when it comes to Bernie Sanders I like listening  to him cuz I think he's really coming from the heart a lot of politicians out ther
e they're not  really speaking from the heart they're actually speaking from their interests and I think he's  you know he he'll tell you kind of how he feels about certain things and he's not thinking about  corporate donors and all this stuff and he's just speaking without all the influence and that's  what I like about listening to him so let's go take a look and listen to Bernie Sanders here  we go stop working you're not alone just 43% of Americans based on the latest numbers believe  that
they'll be able to retire when they want that is the lowest that number has been since  2012 and it's a reality that I dug into with Senator Bernie Sanders let's talk about why  we're in this hearing room you just wrapped up a hearing earlier on the retirement crisis in  the US and one number that you put out in your report that really stood out to me you said 52%  of Americans were 65 and older live on less than $330,000 annually and that one in four survive on  less than $155,000 per year you'
re right I mean that really when I read these statistics that my  staff put together it it is stunning and Caitlyn if you put that within the context of the richest  country in the history of the world and at a time when the people on top have never ever done better  when three people on more wealth than the bottom half of American society I hope we all conclude  that we can do a lot better for seniors than we are currently doing is it a point where retirement  is a bit of a luxury in the United
States well one of the witnesses you may have seen this morning  was a woman who uh was with the United is with the United Automobile where she's a uh Auto worker  and she described the difference in her situation today as somebody who currently has no pension  with her grandparents who did have a pension now what we used to have in this country is a defined  benefit pension system which was pretty prevalent in other words you work for your company for a  certain number of years and you knew th
at when you retired there would be a certain sum of money  coming into your bank account every single month bu and Lodge that is gone so in my view we've got  to do two things at a time when corporations are enjoying record-breaking profits we got to say  to them you know what you got to establish uh a defined benefit pension plan for your workers  there are various ways that you can do it that's number one number two we got to deal with social  security for many many Americans especially lower
income workingclass Americans the Social Security  benefits that they're getting today are inadequate so what do we have to do we have to do something  very simple right now you make $1.6 million a year I make $160,000 a year guess who pays more in  Social Security taxes we pay the same you pay the same because there is a ceiling on what  you can pay and to be clear that's not my salary you're just using a hypothetical I don't  want people going crazy when they watch us but on that note Senator
Cassidy who was in here he  said that's out an outdated model he talked about obviously now we've shifted to where you know  it's the responsibility is more on the employee than the employer yeah no kidding but on Social  Security you know it is set to become insolvent soon and it seems like everyone understands that  but no one really wants to address it because of the political pitfalls what is the real way to  handle it and this is a key here lawmakers do not want to address this issue becaus
e they know  ultimately they're going to have to raise the payroll contribution which means raise taxes on  either the wealthy or raise taxes across the board for people who are currently working and paying  into that payroll contribution that's the bottom line that's why lawmakers don't want to touch this  some lawmakers will tell you like it is Senator Bernie Sanders is telling you like it is we're  going to need people are going going to need to contribute more in order to save Social Securit
y  at least save the trust fund so he's telling you like it is but some lawmakers they don't want  to do that a lot of lawmakers don't want to do that and and that's the the tragedy when it comes  to Social Security when we get enough lawmakers that have a backbone that are true leaders that  will come out and say look we're going to have to make some tough decisions and this is one  decision where we're going to have to raise the payroll contribution so everyone will be able  to get Social Secu
rity when they retire it's not a political Pitfall the rich get richer the rich  have lobbyist all over Washington DC billionaires make enormous campaign contributions and you know  what their main issue is don't tax us hey I'm only worth $8 billion he's worth $10 billion that's  not fair don't tax me anymore so the result of that is a taxic cab driver has an effective tax  rate Which is higher than billionaires so of of course they don't want this is a class issue of  course the rich don't want
to pay more in taxes most of them there are some who are willing to do  it but you tell me if it makes any sense to you when we're struggling to make Social Security  solvent that you got billionaires who pay the same amount into the Social Security trust fund  as somebody making 168,000 makes no sense but you know you have people who work for the rich  and not for their constituents and that's why we are where we are one idea we hear from Republicans  especially in the Republican primary race
was this idea a of raising the retirement age brilliant  idea yes it is yes we have people 87 year olds packing groceries in a supermarket you know really  people have worked hard their whole lives this is the richest country in the history of the world  raise the retirement needs cut benefits I don't think so the alternative approach which makes  eminent sense to me and the vast majority of the American people is demand that the people on top  finally St paying their fair share of taxes so we c
an expand benefits do not raise the retirement  that is cruel I mean to tell people who worked like that woman in a factory you know for her  whole life that she's got to work two or three more years I don't think so on this issue overall  one thing that stood out from the hearing is just listening to people's Financial situations and  what people are going through and one thing we often hear from the White House is that you know  despite how people are feeling the economy is doing better their
lives are improving since Biden  took office but what happens when people don't feel that way it's a very good question so there  are two realities here number one unemployment is low you want to get a job in Most states you can  go out and get a job that's a pretty good thing uh we are rebuilding American manufacturing creating  manufacturing jobs that is a good thing so in a lot of ways the economy in fact is doing well but  there is another reality this is an astounding fact over the last 50
years 5 Z years despite a  huge increase in work approach productivity and Technology the average American work today in real  inflation accountant for dollars is earning less than he or she did 50 years ago that is insane  there's been a massive transfer of wealth from the working class to the top 1% now I don't we  don't talk about that much on TV and we don't talk about it much in Congress but that is the reality  we're a rich country but almost all of the wealth is going to the people on top
60% Americans are  working paycheck to paycheck so what you really need is a movement and we're beginning to see  that with the unions are people standing up and saying no to corporate greed creating an economy  that works for all not just a few we've seen the unions the UAW you mentioned a worker who was here  at your at your hearing they've endorsed President Biden come November we talked about his issues  with Arab Americans but he's also facing issues with other groups as well that brought
him to the  White House do you think he can hold together a winning Coalition come November I think so but it  you know it depends on the nature of the campaign that he runs I would hope that he says to the the  American people look we have accomplished a lot there's a lot that he should be very proud of you  know we we forget Caitlyn 3 years ago in the midst of the Terri terrible covid pandemic unemployment  soared the economy virtually collapsed thousands of people were dying every day everybo
dy was  scared to death about this terrible disease we came out of that economic downturn a lot faster  than the economists thought we would because we passed the American Rescue plan um so he has  I think a lot to talk about but he has also got to recognize that over the last many many  decades we have seen a growing gap between the very rich and everybody else corporate profits  are soaring elderly people are living in Pro in poverty so what he needs to do is say it make it  very clear he is g
oing to stand with the working class of this country around an agenda that  works for everybody not just the people on is he doing that enough right now in your view he's  not I mean there are things that I think uh can be done I think you have to say very loudly and  clearly and he does but not quite as strongly as I would like you got Republicans right here  in this room who want to repeal the estate tax which applies to the top 1/10th of 1% going  to get massive over a period of years trillio
ns of dollars in tax breaks to the top 1/10th with 1%  and then they want to cut back on programs for the working class in the ELD does that make any sense  to me he's got to take them to task and stand up and make it clear that if Trump and Republicans  gain control of the Congress the rich are going to do very very well working people are going  to be hurting maybe we'll see that at the State of the Union next week let's talk about you in  November you have not announced what you plan to do ar
e you going to run for re-election well  that's between me and the people of the state of Vermont and I'll make that at the appropriate  time make that decision do you think you'll make it before may your filing deadline I guess so okay  well hopefully you'll come back here on the source and tell us okay so that was Bernie Sanders  let me know know in the comments below what you think about some of the things that he talked  about now one of the interesting things is he was talking about the 52%
of seniors who are living  on 30,000 or less and I mean just think of this $30,000 or less it's very hard to live on $30,000  just I mean especially if you're in a major city it's probably impossible to live on 30,000 and  so there's clearly an issue here there's clearly a problem that needs to be addressed and that's  why I keep talking about social security reform I keep talking about expanding Social Security  because this needs to happen because we have to look at it like this and and this
is we're not  you I've had debates with people before just talking about you know the wealthy versus the the  middle class the working class and the poor the more money that we see on the top end the less  money the middle class the working class and the poor will have that's how it works so if you have  this income inequality and you have these wealthy people getting richer so as they gain more wealth  it makes us poor makes us all poor and especially if you're in a situation where you are on a
fixed  income you are retired you don't have the same luxury of saying oh you know what I'll just get a  second job or I'll just I I'll start working or I mean not everyone has that luxury and so some of  these benefits that you have when you're working you're not going to have those same benefits when  you retire when you and especially when you get to an age where you can no longer physically work  and so as we watch the wealthy people get more and more money we know by them getting wealthier
it's  going to mean that we're going to struggle even more and so that's one of the the key things that  I think he was trying to to let us know about and we I mean we should be focused on this anyway  but you have people out there right now that are asking that questioner making the statement of  why would we give a $200 raise to people receiving Social Security why should we do that when we're  looking at Millionaires multi-millionaires and billionaires that are making record profits and  ref
using to pay when it comes to the payroll contribution ref refusing to pay that's why  there's that ceiling there it's because they're saying we don't want to pay anymore once  we get to 168,00 we no longer want to pay into the system and lawmakers listen to them why  because these same Millionaires and billionaires are funding their campaigns and so instead of  these lawmakers representing the American people they're representing a select few of the American  people and the rest they don't get
a say in the matter so I want to know what you guys think so  let me know in the comments below if you like this video please give me a thumbs up please subscribe  for more and I'll talk to you in the next one bye

Bernie is a good person, speaks from his heart. Class disparity is mostly contolled by the rich, unfortunately.

@JenniferRiley-og3fb

Reform Congress 😊

@geraldmurphy1428

If we the American People would have Bernie Sander s president the American People wouldn't be struggling like we are today.

@arthurshingler2025

His $200 per month increase proposal, is now more like a $300 or $400 per month increase. But... the trend I've seen is even if there's a COLA "raise" each year, our society will then automatically raise ALL the prices even more, because they feel that we can now afford to pay them all more money! Prices seem to always go up when everyone gets a raise.

@carmeloortiz5687

Hello Good afternoon have a great and awesome and blessed Sunday to. 😀

@BlessedBeMyDay

I love that Bernie has the guts to speak the truth. It really does take a real man to speak against his constituents. Where are these men We need more to fight for us the American People .

@maryroop8996

Thank you Mr SANDER S

@lgrizzly1955

If they don’t do something soon, I will be out of the place that I’m at if they gave me $200 more a month that would help tremendously

@carlosandresleoro1157

Hello guys and David. I'm sorry to say but this conversation about boosting social security it's getting so repetitive and nothing gets done and it never will be at least for now. I'm not trying to be negative and I hope everyone will get a decent social security check. I used to watch this videos everyday and not only David's, other channels too, and it got into a point that I would get excited about " the good news" videos titles.But it got me on my nerves that nothing will get done, I I've stopped watching this videos.I'm sorry it's just my humble opinion.

@melvinchamberlin823

You should just kick him out because the one that ain't going to vote for it it's like this people on social security disabled social security SSI and veterans all this they ain't going to do it and people retire to you know they're too afraid they're going to lose their pork money and their funding all this and a lot of money to buy them all and they going to do it you know when you don't have enough boots you can't get nothing passed it should be kicked from the bottom all the way up to the top keep making your videos sir

@arthurshingler2025

If they raise the FRA then at the very least....they then should raise the maximum Age of 70, up to 72 or 73. But it doesn't sound like they'll do that. Raising the payroll tax by 2% should keep us in check.

@frankdidonato9718

My SS is less than 15 thousand a year. I would like to see congressman and senators live on that.
