I’ve Finally Played Some More LEGO Games

You know those games in your backlog that you know you'll enjoy but never get around to playing? Those were the LEGO games for me. I thought the best way to play through them and experience the LEGO games evolution would be in release order so I can see how they change over time and find some of the best lego games. This video pretty much shows the evolution of the LEGO games as I play through them . Very much looking forward to completing more down the road! I'll be ranking all of these LEGO games in a big video on the channel once I'm done so stay tuned! 🕘Chapters: 0:00 - LEGO City Undercover 8:10 - LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 17:18 - The LEGO Movie Videogame 19:48 - LEGO The Hobbit Since 1995, numerous commercial video games based on Lego have been released. Following the release of Lego Star Wars: The Video Game, Giant merged with Traveller's Tales to form TT Games. TT Games was acquired by Warner Bros. Games in November 2007, making WBG the primary publisher for Lego games. 4 weeks ago

so it's been about 4 months since I decided to  play through all the Lego games that had been sitting in my backlog for years and it's been a  real treat to experience them in release order to get a sense of how they've evolved over  time next up on this journey was Lego City Undercover it's a good thing I don't have  vertigo or some other ridiculous phobia. Bonjure! Ahh French parrots I'll be honest and say I was  very surprised by this game I wasn't expecting to enjoy it half as much as I did
as it doesn't have  any official film license or anything attached to it like the previous Lego games such as Lego  Star Wars but it turns out that actually didn't matter I just finished playing LEGO The Lord  of the Rings a couple weeks ago which was my favorite Lego game so far in this Odyssey of  mine but Lego City Undercover has swooped in and potentially taken that top spot already and  I will be doing a big video down the road where I rank all the Lego games that I've played so far  so sta
y tuned for that so this game released back in 2013 on the Wii U a console that to this day I  still have zero knowledge or experience of it then got a re-release on PC and consoles Etc in 2017 it  was probably the biggest Leap Forward TT games had taken at that point introducing the liveliest open  world to date the best way I could describe this game is it's basically Lego The Simpsons Hit and  Run take the gameplay loop from Grand Theft Auto blend it with Lego and that's what this is in  this
original Lego story you play as detective Chase McCain a loose play on the character John  mlan from the Die Hard movies as he tries to capture his arch nemesis who's escaped from prison  it's basically a play on buddy cop movies from the 70s and ' 80s and when that hit me that's when my  enjoyment started to kick in throughout the game the story references so many classic action films  such as 007 The Matrix Star Ski and Hutch even films a bit further out such as the Shaw Shank  Redemption and
alien there's actually a whole mission that takes place within a prison that's  meant to be Shawshank Redemption with a character who's a play on Morgan Freeman's character because  of this I then realized that the fact this game isn't tied to one specific license isn't actually  a hindrance it actually meant that it was free to pull indirectly from so many different films and  ends up being just a big parody of classic action films this approach TT games took towards the  game gives it such a
light-hearted feel while still delivering a genuinely enjoyable narrative  it really stands apart from the other games as it's very much a celebration of the Lego Universe  first and foremost showcasing the brilliant sense of humor these games have as this is definitely  the funniest of the games I've played so far the voice acting plays a massive role in this of  course with enthusiastic performances put in by everyone which doesn't surprise me to be honest  as with writing as fun as this I can
imagine how the voice actors just had a great time playing  these roles all the characters are parodies of people you'd expect to find in an action film for  example Arnold Schwarzenegger Morgan Freeman Bruce Willis Etc and Chase McCain's buddy cop is a guy  called Frank honey who's just your over-the toop dumbass I say dumbass in a nice way but every  time someone mentions him or calls him over they're like hey honey I need a favor or yes  honey it's really silly but I'm a sucker for humor lik
e this when it's done subtly the humor  and characters reminded me of Airplane the film if you've ever seen that if you haven't seen it you  need to watch it it's a brilliant comedy film as I mentioned this story plays out in a GTA style open  world and in between these chaptered missions you can explore and Vary up your time by doing side  activities and mini games which really helped this feel much less formulaic than the previous  Lego games there are no longer Hub doors that you walk through
to tick off another mission each of  the story missions blend into one another akin to more modern open World Games I'll be on my way  to the next mission only to find a basketball court or something to play in or some free running  activity to complete and before I knew it I was completely distracted and just faffing around  in this open world it was a nice mixup for me it truly felt like a digital Lego playground I did  have a thought whilst playing and that thought was that this is exactly h
ow they should do a Lego  Clutch Powers game I mentioned it in my review of the Clutch Powers film that it would be cool  to see a clutch powers game and I feel like Lego City Undercover is a great foundation for a game  like that being as this is a much more character focused game centered on Chase McCain instead of  playing as multiple characters this carries with it a different feel towards the gameplay  instead of collecting loads of characters you actually just collect disguises which Chase
wears  to then accomplish different tasks for example a farmer's outfit to water plants and glide through  the air whilst hanging onto the legs of a chicken and yes you heard that right it was refreshing  spending time with one character and seeing him unlock these new skills and outfits nothing  mind-blowing I know but it was just another element of the game that added some personality  when compared to other Lego games one aspect of Lego City Undercover which immediately stood out  was the co
mbat and overall traversal you'll see that moving around the level is much smoother  looking with free running playing a big part of the game reminiscent of Chase scenes from  classic action films I absolutely loved this it's dead simple to do just a simple button  press but the animations are flashy and makes for a great sense of connection to the environment  compared to previous Lego games where platforming was fine but very much just fine on top of that  there's the fresh take on combat I co
uldn't help but draw comparisons to the free flow combat made  famous by the Batman Arkham games where there's an emphasis on combat flow and timing your counters  and keeping an eye on enemies around you it works incredibly well here in my opinion it's very  accessible control- wise but it's so satisfying to see play out there's a great variety of counter  animations which keeps combat engaging and once you've knocked an enemy to the floor you have a  window of time to throw handcuffs on them w
hich leans into that Police role play overall just a  brilliant change up which I think worked perfectly for this game due to its tone and theme and I'm  excited to see if it's implemented in later Lego games so being an open world game it comes with  all the things you'd expect including Vehicles this game is definitely the most refined in terms  of Transportation being as Lego Batman 2 was the last game with vehicles playing as big a part in  the world in that game they were definitely fun to
use if a little clunky but here the vehicles all  feel much better to control there's also a wide variety of them too something like 120 that  includes some flying and sea vehicles too so plenty of ways to get around the city this of  course adds another layer to the collectathon these games are known for and to be honest this  is probably the most collecty Lego game to date you have the new super build bricks currency which you  use to build Special structures the gold bricks of course turn but
this time there's a hefty 450 to  collect TT games finally added some additional red bricks too around 40 in total I think which  are kind of cheat bricks you can unlock to make 100%'ing the game a bit easier along with some  silly ones that change up certain aspects of the game the way this open world is designed  along with the not too lengthy story missions makes this a pretty chill one to complete the  Lego games have always looked pretty damn good even the first game stylistically looked g
ood  as they captured the physical appeal of Lego but the visuals at this point in the Lego Saga are  getting incredibly impressive the cut scenes here are almost on par with the Lego movies maybe TV  Lego movies but still the way lighting reflects off plastic surfaces is just impressive how  these games continuously up the quality of the visuals one thing in particular I noticed  was the way characters mouths move in game with facial expressions to match it's pretty standard  in games nowadays
for characters to have facial animations move while speaking but I don't think  every game actually makes the effort to do it so it was just a small detail I appreciated here  the city itself looks great but I'll be honest and say I think it's more down to the non-lego  buildings and natural environments that make it look as good as it does this doesn't matter of  course not everything has to be made of Lego in the game just as long as there's well- Blended  elements of Lego incorporated into th
e world but yeah the lighting and textures are improved  substantially over previous Lego games and makes for very immersive and detail Rich experience for  a game that's almost 11 years old at this point each area of the city has a distinct feel for  example the denser New York feeling area to the southeast contrasts the rich Forest area of the  city to the Northwest it just made exploring and collecting everything a bit more Scenic instead of  focusing solely on where the next collectible was
all of this is sprinkled with a really upbeat and  thematically appropriate '70s/80s Funk soundtrack that honestly had me bopping at times plenty of wah  pedal wielding guitars reverberating over groovy baselines whilst percussion instruments pop in  randomly to spice things up absolutely loved it and topped off an experience I was already in  love with it's a shame that the launch of this game was so scattered released on the Wii U and  then years later on more common platforms because this is
honestly a Lego game I didn't know much  about and now I've completed it I would happily recommend it as a must play for Lego fans I  have my fingers toes and belly button crossed that they make a sequel to this game because  I honestly think Lego City Undercover deserves one really with the banging really hey Doc why do  you need all those Cosmic bricks I don't share my plans with insects how about a god then so  before jumping into Lego Marvel super Heroes I had been told by a good few of you
that it's  quite a beast of a game a huge open world with hundreds of Collectibles and you know what  you folks weren't wrong shout out to Josh in particular as he did forwarn me the earliest and  I know he's been waiting for this one me and Bianca have actually been catching up on the MCU  recently so this game came at a perfect time for me in this Lego Odyssey this game released back in  2013 and was received pretty damn well I'm happy to say that I did enjoy it too but it's probably  not up t
here as one of my favorite Lego games I've got to say there's just one one or two things I  didn't personally jive with but overall I had a great time playing with this impressive roster  of characters here in Lego Marvel Superheroes so the story boils down to Dr Doom on the hunt for  these incredibly powerful Cosmic bricks along with the help of other Marvel Super Villains  his goal is to build his Doom Ray of Doom to do evil stuff of course however it turns out  that Thor's brother Loki is act
ually the one pulling the strings in his Conquest to destroy  Earth and Asgard by mind controlling the cosmic World eating entity known as Galactus it's kind of  like a mash up of the 2007 film Fantastic 4 Rise of the Silver Surfer and the 2013 film Avengers  Assemble it's a fairly simple premise which does its job in bringing together all of these Marvel  characters in a way that makes sense but that's kind of the only thing it did for me personally  it was a pretty forgettable story for me I o
nly really remember the end level as that's when all  the Marvel heroes and villains team up together but otherwise the rest of the story just blurred  together for me it's not bad by any means just not quite up there with the original stories  told in Lego City undercover and Lego Batman 2 despite the fact I'm more of a Marvel guy than  DC I think some of it also came down to the humor it didn't quite land for me and of course that's  completely subjective I'm sure a lot of people found the hum
or great in this game I don't know  it just felt a little less like Lego humor and more like humor you'd find in a comic book this  of course makes sense but when I've just come off playing some genuinely funny Lego games this  felt a little flat as all each character is voice acted well but there wasn't quite enough Chemistry  Between the characters it felt more like each of them was waiting their turn to say something  something witty but they didn't really come together to create any memorabl
e moments until  the very end that's my only real big gripe with the game otherwise it's a great Lego game like all  the others and despite the story it was a delight to see characters pop up every now and again and  help each other out from the Fantastic 4 to X-Men they managed to cover a lot of ground in only 15  story levels it definitely got me excited to check out Lego Marvel Superheroes 2 later down the road  speaking of the characters my God it's impressive how many superheroes and villai
ns they fit into  this game each of them has completely different running fighting and Idol animations it's easily  the most expansive and diverse character roster I've come across in the Lego game so far I think  this is why Lego Marvel Superheroes is so fondly remembered by many it's a true playground for  Marvel fans to just explore this universe as their favorite characters and partake in many of  its open world activities most of the characters have multiple costume variations as well addin
g  even more of a reason to collect every single one of these character tokens in the game and it shows  just how much TT games cared about crafting a world that fans could continuously enjoy exploring  even after the credits roll I am Modok I am designed only for Conquest that for me is where the true  enjoyment of this game comes from the end game pun intended I guess kind of didn't realize until now  I think collecting the unique feeling characters and checking off the open world activities i
s what  I enjoyed most here and after all it's a Lego game they're meant to be playgrounds to mess about  in and Lego Marvel Superheroes easily provides one of the best playgrounds to date I will mention  though that this is the first Lego game to feature paid DLC characters they're pretty cool featuring  characters from Captain America the Winter Soldier and Thor the Dark World and all feel uniquely  crafted I just hope that they don't start taking the piss and charging an arm and a leg for the
m in  later games the open world design of these latest Lego games returns here in the form of New York  City ever since Lego Batman 2 they've proven to be a staple of these games and this is probably the  most packed one to date there's side quests tasks gold bricks to collect and plenty of races to  partake in all of them are simple and enough but when mixed with the huge cast of characters made  each activity a pleasure to check out as you never knew who you were going to stumble across next
for example I came across the Punisher who wanted me to destroy enemy vehicles around New York City  which in turn rewarded me with new vehicles I can use I did find the vehicles a little redundant  in the game since I would either fly or swing somewhere if I needed to because who's going to  take a taxi when you can swing from buildings as Spider-Man but the addition of superhero  themed Vehicles was of course appreciated and cool to check out nonetheless there are signature  landmarks across
New York City such as Stark Tower the baxter building the raft Etc which makes  exploring this world a real Delight as you'll always end up seeing something you recognize from  either the films or the comics it was great to see the helic carrier from the first Avengers film act  as your Hub area of sorts housing the character builder and Deadpool's room which was a cool  design choice for providing players the choice of adding cheats to the game which fits the fourth  wall breaking that Deadpool
is known for so I've made it clear that one of this gamees strengths is  its huge roster of diverse characters and on that note there's actually one big addition to this  game that mixes up the Lego formula from previous games and that's the big figs I think that's the  term Lego folks use big figs but anyway they're basically much bigger versions of the standard  Minifigures because this game is very combat focused feeling more like a hack and slash game  than a puzzle game I think TT games th
en decided that this would be a great time to introduce big  figs which are much better suited to characters such as the Hulk Abomination and Thanos they  cause absolute Chaos on screen when playing as them smashing everything in their path and to be  honest they were great fun the combo system also returns from previous Lego games prior to Lego  city undercover and it gave combat a good sense of connection with each character having  unique moves they can pull off at certain points which when m
ultiple characters on screen are going  ham at the same time made for very action-packed looking set pieces fitting for a game based on  comic books saying that though although the fights look cool and whatnot the AI of your companions is  some of the worst I've experienced in a Lego game I can't count the number of times I've been having  a jolly old time working my way through a level and came across a puzzle in which I needed to use  my companion character so as normal I'd switched to them bu
t then theyd just be stood there trying  to figure out how to walk up a flight of stairs or something these games seem to be so hit and  miss with the AI and pathing it's not a huge deal but I feel like I have lowkey ai PTSD from Lego  Star Wars the Complete Saga which is when I first noticed it so due to my AI companions faffing  about all the freaking time I decided to finally try out some of the co-op which is featured in  every TT Lego game as far as I'm aware I got Bianca to jump on with me
for a level or two and  her feedback was I quote it's fun feels like this is for kids though I mean she's not wrong but yeah  I enjoyed the co-op aspect too it was fun working together and figuring out what we had to do next  I will say the split screen is questionable though it does this weird thing where they split in the screen to Define each person's area adapts to where each of you are on the screen so it feels  a bit like you've had one or two drinks as the screen is spinning whilst you'r
e just trying to do  a simple task nevertheless it's good they include this option in every Lego game and if I have kids  one day you can be sure I'll be playing these games with them so stick around and subscribe for  those videos I guess that was smooth I can't help but feel including online co-op is such a missed  opportunity in these games though especially with how successful Lego Star Wars the Skywalker Saga  has been who knows maybe it could be added in a future update if that's even a th
ing they can do  the visuals here are on par with those found in both Lego City undercover and LEGO The Lord of the  Rings which got me thinking as to whether they had multiple teams working on different Lego games  at the same time it would make sense as there's definitely a lot of parallels you can draw between  certain games not to mention the release schedule of two or sometimes even three Lego games a year  but it's good that despite this TT games still upheld a high standard in terms of ho
w visually  impressive these games looked for the time I did however find the music a little lacking  in this game in particular which is a shame since a lot of the scores found in the MCU films  are fantastic so I'm not sure whether it was a licensing thing or what but I would have loved  to hear the Avengers theme play throughout the game the music that is here is still well produced of  course but at times it also sounded a little like poundland Marvel to me but hey it's got the job  done and
sometimes poundland has some bangers so you know greetings I am the mind's Master you  can call me Mastermind I have the only truly unbeatable mutant power to control your mind Lego  Marvel Superheroes kind of felt like a throwback to the Lego Batman games for me his focus is on  giving fans an authentic comic book experience where you can just explore the world and role play  as your favorite characters collect everything in sight and enjoy references to multiple story  lines from both the fil
ms and Comics it's got the the most impressive Lego roster to date and I  think that's its strongest element unfortunately for me the story didn't really do much with these  characters alas when the story ended I still had a great time seeing who I could unlock next as  this game is a celebration of all things Marvel and with Stan Lee being featured in the game  any Marvel fan will be pleased with what this game serves up even after all these years I'll be  completely honest I wasn't expecting m
uch from The Lego Movie video game any screenshots from the  game that I'd seen just seemed a little meh not quite up to par with the previous Lego games I've  played it turns out though this game isn't half bad it's not incredible but I still had a pretty  good time with it so this game released back in 2014 coinciding with the Lego movie which I  think is a solid family film and this game pretty much retells the story in video game form  but allows players to spend more time with the character
s from the movie one of the cool things  about this Lego Odyssey I've been on for a while now where I'm playing through all the games  it's that I get to unlock all these different characters from licensed properties that I know  and love for example Harry Potter Star Wars Lord of the Rings and with this I pretty much much  know who to expect when it comes to unlocking all the characters it was a bit different  here because in The Lego Movie they feature many different licensed Lego characters f
rom all  over the place but yeah this is a considerably shorter game than the other Lego entries so make  of that what you will saying that it does kind of make this a great first Lego game to 100% for  anyone wanting to do so since it really won't take that long in terms of gameplay there's no  major change UPS from previous games but there's a few minor additions one is the instruction  build system which essentially gives certain characters the ability to read instructions and  build Lego str
uctures needed to progress in the level for the player this requires them to select  the right Lego pieces to ensure the structure is built correctly and if done quickly earns them a  fairly large number of studs the second addition is the master Builder's ability to select three  predetermined objects in the environment and build something brand new to help overcome an obstacle  both of these mechanics are very simple and the game would have been fine without them the game  has a True Toy Box f
eel to it and honestly some of these environments look great I particularly  loved one level where you're in a submarine with the ocean waves crashing against you and they're  completely made up of Lego pieces mirroring the technique used in the movie to make this cool Lego  water effect the digitally rendered stop motion animation style made the movie look brilliant  and I think it was a smart decision for the developers to strive for that same style here  in the game which I think they pulled
off for the most part some of the levels did feel a little  stretched out like they could have made the story mode maybe 12 levels instead of 15 but none of the  levels felt boring just some ended way sooner than I was expecting and perhaps certain levels could  have been condensed into one so is this the best Lego game I've played so so far definitely not but  in terms of enjoyment and capturing the feel of the movie it's based on I think it does a really  good job it's visually one of the more
interesting Lego games I've played so far and I genuinely  enjoyed hearing these characters interact with each other throughout the levels it reminded me of  how valuable movie tie in games were for me back in the day and since this actually tries to be a good  one it won me over so after playing Lego of The Lord of the Rings about a month ago and absolutely  loving it it was safe to say I had high hopes for it prequel Lego The Hobbit when I finally came  to it on this Lego Odyssey the book was
actually one of the first books I ever read in its entirety  and that then was turned into three films by Peter Jackson the trilogy definitely isn't up to the  same standard as the Lord of the Rings I think that's a fairly shared opinion but I'm very happy  to say that Lego The Hobbit takes what worked in the first Middle Earth game and refines it to make  the second Journey well worth the trip this game released back in 2014 alongside the second  Hobbit film the desolation of Smaug and was rec
eived pretty well with most folk appreciating  another Well crafted Adventure into Middle Earth but at the same time some were getting a little tired  of the Lego formula that had gone mostly unchanged for 6 years at this point to be honest that's  that's fair criticism mechanically this game is very familiar but I don't have much of an issue  with that when TT games continuously fine-tunes the games as they go along as Lego The Hobbit is  probably the best performing and looking Lego game I've
played so far so if you've not read the  book or seen the film the story as you would expect follows the adventures of a Hobbit called  Bilbo Baggins he heads off with a wizard and a bunch of dwarves to reclaim their Homeland from  a tyrannical Dragon known as smaug the film acts as a big setup for the events that take place  in The Lord of the Rings but unlike LEGO The Lord of the Rings this game isn't actually finished I  don't mean unfinished by today's standards wherein games are released bu
ggy and unfinished because  the suits Force the developers to Rush the game out I mean the game doesn't cover all three films  this is because unfortunately the developers never added levels from the final film in the trilogy  as DLC which gives the game a slight element of melancholy for me I don't really know why they  weren't added I'm not sure if anybody really knows I did really enjoy this game but when the  credits rolled at the end of the second chapter of the trilogy I was left slightly
deflated maybe one  day they'll return to add in the levels to make this a complete package or even better do a full  remake of the Lego middle games similar to what they did with Lego Star Wars but anyway with that  slight downside behind us what is here I very much enjoyed I absolutely loved exploring this version  of Middle Earth as the story levels do a great job of expanding upon moments in the films which  only lasted a few minutes a particular highlight is Beorn's house where Bilbo and th
e dwarves take  refuge from their pursuers it was a visual treat just to to explore this house and the area around  it and this goes for many of the locations found in the films just like LEGO The Lord of the Rings  it's such a playground for fans to just immerse themselves in Tolkien's World despite half of it  being made of Lego once again the developers took the character's dialogue straight from the  films and placed it here in the game this does then bring along with it the argument that th
e  Lego charm and humor that these games are known for is kind of lost when the developers are  restricted to using sound bites from the films for me though just like the previous game I just  see it as a variation of the Lego games no one said they all have to be comedy focused and  therefore this is just one of the more immersion focused Lego games where the focus is more on  providing fans of Middle Earth an experience closer to the source material rather than Lego  saying that the dialogue d
oes align with Lego a little more here in Lego The Hobbit compared to  Lord of the Rings since the tone of the films is slightly lighter and aimed at a bit of a younger  audience to get them ready for watching Lord of the Rings oh and this game also features Sir  Christopher Lee's final performance as Saruman before he passed away just one year later he was  a brilliant actor and also is apparently the guy who Ian Fleming based the character of James Bond  off which is pretty cool and I'm glad h
e was able to do the narration for this game it added a very  personal touch to it this is also one of the best if not the best looking Lego games to date the  environmental visuals are brilliant and with the improved lighting and shadows it makes each of  the areas contrast each other so well I was in merkwood one minute fighting spiders in a gloomy  forest and then the next I was sailing into Lake Town through miles of fog and it all just looks so  good at this point in the Lego Evolution the
Lego bricks themselves look as good as ever with the  glossy textures simulating Reflections really well and it all comes together into such eye candy for  fans of both Lego and Middle Earth they're also getting so good at giving these games a large  sense of scale whereas if you look back at the earlier Lego games they felt more like miniature  play sets that you were interacting with which isn't a bad thing it's just great to see these  games grow in size and ambition and thankfully we have th
e score from Howard Shore featured in the  game which does equally as good a job at immersing you into middle earth as it does when you watch the  films so when you're not playing through the main story like pretty much all the recent Lego games  you'll be exploring the open world this may just be my favorite to date to be honest and I know I  sound like a broken record in these videos but TT games really do just keep upping the quality  the atmosphere and World building about half of the map is
very similar to Lego Lord of the Rings  however it then opens up the northern part of Middle Earth to explore as that's where Lake Town  the Lonely Mountain Etc are located as a huge fan of tolkiens it was such a joy to just travel  the world and genuinely be an awe of some of these places the city of Dale and the entrance to  Erebor were a particular highlight traversing this land is made much more user friendly too with the  addition of unlockable mounts and the eagle fast travel system that
clip I used at the start of the  video where Bilbo is being flown to Mirkwood by an eagle that is this game's fast travel system and  whoever came up with that at TT games deserves a medal it fits into the lore so well and makes for  such a visually pleasing experience as you soar above the clouds and pick out amazing landmarks  in the distance thankfully there's also a mini map added in which I know is featured in Lego  City under cover but I can't remember if they've been adding them to the ga
mes since but anyway a  very basic yet essential feature if they're going to continue to expand these open worlds they're  awesome to explore but having to open the map up in the menu every minute or so broke immersion in  some of those Lego games in terms of Collectibles it's your standard Lego affair with mini kits  to find and characters to collect but there is a new addition which I'll touch on in a moment  basically if you've played Lego Lord of the Rings you know what to expect here howeve
r the side  quest givers that you come across in the world are much more diverse compared to Lord of the  Rings the character models and voice actors just seem more varied and it made different regions of  Middle Earth feel genuinely distant and different when it comes to the combat it's kind of like a  mix of Pirates of the Carribean and Marvel Superheroes you have the more swashbuckling animations  mixed in with a variety of weapons which gives it this refined and thematically correct hack and
slash feel in the films these dwarves are often accidental when it comes to fighting and it comes  across in the combat animations here with flails being spun in the air and axes swinging about  left right and center but then each character has one or two unique animations which gives each  character a sense of personality when using them similar to Marvel Superheroes the broad range  of weapons had a big part to play too and I really hope the games continue to add more choices in  terms of ho
w the player can fight and Traverse expanded upon from Lego Lord of the Rings there's  also a buddy up system in the game which is used both in and out of combat you can team up with  a companion at any time and pull off some cool moves or climb on top of one another to reach  Higher Ground for example it fits in with the comaraderie found in the fellowship of dwarves in  the film and I really liked it so I mentioned a new collection mechanic here in Lego The Hobbit  and it's essentially mix bet
ween the crafting system of Lego Lord of the Rings and The Lego  builds in The Lego Movie video game throughout the world you collect resources like wood metal  food Etc and this can be used to craft unique builds or be traded to get even rarer materials  at first I was a little meh about it but when I started to see that these crafting requirements  meant you had to go explore the world more and smash everything in sight I understood why the  developers added this mechanic it gives you even mor
e motivation to leave no stone unturned when  playing the story levels and you never know when you might find a resource you need to complete a  side quest Quest the Lego build system is expanded upon and looks even better than in The Lego Movie  video game and it's fairly intriguing watching how these builds are made piece by piece it's not  exactly challenging to build them as you just select the next piece needed from a selection  wheel but it hits that nice accessibility Mark for younger aud
iences to stay engaged with it  there's something I don't talk too much about in these videos since I'm not usually fussy about  it but I have to say that the UI feels so polished here in Lego The Hobbit compared to previous  games everything looks and feels simple to use without looking tacky like Lego Indiana Jones  2 for example the Dwarven design is sewn into every menu and hub feature keeping you immersed  in this world which I know is only a small thing but it makes a difference in terms o
f the whole  game as a package there's small quality of life improvements to gameplay too for example the blue  ring which circles beneath your character When jumping and near other characters helping you  Traverse and jump between other characters with more Precision it just felt like the developers  and testers went through this game with a fine comb to make sure it felt tight and accessible to  play which is really appreciated so I've gushed almost as much about this game as I did when I  mad
e the video on LEGO The Lord of the Rings but unfortunately there will always be that unfinished  feeling encompassing this game and I really don't see us ever getting that final film reimagined  in Lego maybe if we drop enough hints they'll actually remake The middle earth Saga and we can lose  ourselves in tolkien's world all over again and these are pretty much the Lego games I've played so far  cheers for watching and feel free to share your thoughts on any of these games in the comments  se
