[banging] Earthbenders. You don't know me,
but I know of you. Every child in my
Water Tribe village was rocked to sleep with stories
of the brave Earth Kingdom, and the courageous earthbenders
who guard its borders. Some of you may think that the Fire Nation has made
you powerless. Yes, they have taken away
your ability to bend, but they can't take away
your courage. And it is your courage
they should truly fear because it runs deeper
than any mine you've been forced to dig,
any ocean that keeps
you far from home. It is the strength
of your hearts that make you who you are. Hearts that will remain
unbroken when all rock and stone has eroded away.
The time to fight back is now. I can tell you
the Avatar has returned. So remember your courage,
earthbenders. Let us fight for our freedom! [music playing] I don't know. Aang, these shoes aren't really right
for dancing. And I'm not sure
that I know how to- Take my hand. Okay. [music playing] [music playing] [music playing] [music playing] Aa
ng, everyone's watching. Don't worry about them.
It's just you and me right now. [music playing] [music playing] [music playing] [music playing] [music playing] Wow. Cool. [music playing] [music playing] [cheering, applauding] [crying] [groaning] You have healing abilities. The great benders
of the Water Tribe sometimes have this ability. I've always wished
I were blessed like you, free from this burning curse. But you're a great master.
You have powers I'll never know. Water brings healing and
life, but fire brings only destruction
and pain. It forces those of us burdened
with its care to walk a razor's edge
between humanity and savagery. Eventually, we're torn apart. I'll leave you two alone. What's wrong, Katara? He left. What? Aang. He just took his glider
and disappeared. He has this ridiculous notion that he has
to save the world alone. That it's all
his responsibility. Maybe that's his way
of being brave. It's not brave,
it's selfish and stupid. We could be helping him.
And I kn
ow the world needs him, but doesn't he know how much
that we need him to? How can he just leave us behind? You're talking about me too,
aren't you? How could you leave us, Dad?
I mean, I know we had Gran Gran and she loved us but, but we were just so lost
without you. [crying] I'm so sorry, Katara. [crying] I understand why you left,
I really do. And I know that you had to go,
so why do I still feel this way? I'm so sad and angry and hurt. I love you more than anything. You and your brother are
my entire world. I thought about you every day
I was gone. And every night
when I went to sleep, I would lie awake missing you
so much it would ache. [splashing] We weren't behind the bush. And I wouldn't try firebending
again. Whoever you are, take my money,
take whatever you want. I'll cooperate. Do you know who I am? No. I'm not sure. Oh, you better remember me
like your life depends on it. Why don't you take
a closer look? Yes, yes, I remember you now. You're the little
Water Tribe girl. [th
undering] Just let her go
and I'll give you the information you want. You heard your mother.
Get out of here! Mom, I'm scared. Go find your dad, sweetie.
I'll handle this. Now, tell me. Who is it?
Who's the waterbender? There are no waterbenders here. The Fire Nation took them
all away a long time ago. You're lying. My source says
there's one waterbender left in the Southern Water Tribe. We're not leaving
until we find the waterbender. If I tell you, do you promise
to leave the rest of the villa
ge alone? Mm. It's me.
Take me as your prisoner. I'm afraid
I'm not taking prisoners today. [gulping] She lied to you. She was protecting
the last waterbender. What? Who? Me! [grunting] [splashing] I did a bad thing. I know I did. And you deserve revenge.
So why don't you take my mother? That would be fair. I always wondered what kind
of person could do such a thing. But now that I see you,
I think I understand. There's just nothing inside you.
Nothing at all. You're pathetic
and sad and empty.
Please spare me. But as much as I hate you...
I just can't do it. [crying] [crying] So, Toph,
usually when setting up camp, we try to divide up the work. Hey, don't worry about me.
I'm good to go. Well, actually what I'm trying
to say is some of us might fetch water while someone else might set up
the fire pit or put up the tent. Even Momo does his fair share. Katara, I'm fine,
I can carry my own weight. I don't need a fire. I've already collected
my own food. And look, my tent's all set up. Wel
l, that's great for you,
but we still need to finish- I don't understand.
What's the problem here? Never mind. [groaning] Sorry. Hey, Toph. I wanted
to apologize for earlier. I think
we're all just a little tired and getting
on each other's nerves. Yeah, you do seem pretty tired. I meant all of us. Well, good night. Good night. [clicking] [chittering] [gasping] Toph, aren't you going
to get ready for the day? [spitting] [thudding] I'm ready. You're not going to wash up? You've got a little dirt
on your... everywhere, actually. You call it dirt, I call it
a healthy coating of earth. Hmm. You know what we need?
A girls' day out. Do I have to? It'll be fun. The Fancy Lady Day Spa?
Sounds like my kind of place. Are you ready
for some serious pampering? Sure, Katara, whatever you say, as long
as they don't touch my feet. [groaning] [rumbling, groaning] [screaming] [laughing] [sighing] Well, that wasn't so bad. I'm not usually into that stuff,
but I actually feel... girlie. I'm glad. It's ab
out time
we did something fun together. Wow, great makeup. Thanks. For a clown. [laughing] Don't listen to them.
Let's just keep walking. I think she looks cute, like that time you put a sweater
on your pet poodle monkey. [laughing] Good one, Star. Let's go, Toph. No, no, that was a good one.
"Like your poodle monkey." [laughing] You know what else
is a good one? [screaming] Now, that was funny. [screaming] Those girls don't know
what they're talking about it. It's okay. One of the good things
a
bout being blind is that I don't have
to waste my time worrying about appearances. I don't care what I look like. I'm not looking
for anyone's approval. I know who I am. That's what I really admire
about you, Toph. You're so strong and confident
and self assured. [sniffles] And I know it doesn't matter,
but... you're really pretty. - I am?
- Yeah, you are. I'd return the compliment, but I have no idea
what you look like. [chuckles] Are you crazy, Katara?
You're not gonna win this fight. I know.
I don't care. You don't have to do this
for me. I can find another teacher. I'm not doing it for you. Someone needs to slap
some sense into that guy. So you decided to show up? Aren't you going to fight? Go back to the healing huts
with the other women where you belong. Fine. You want to learn
to fight so bad, study closely. [grunting] Don't worry,
I'm not going to hurt you. Ow! You can't knock me down! Go Katara! [grunting] [cheering] [grunting] [grunting] [grunting] Well, I'm impressed. You ar
e
an excellent waterbender. But you still won't teach me,
will you? No. [grunting] Ah! [groaning] [grunting] This fight is over. Come back here!
I'm not finished yet! Yes, you are. This is my necklace. No, it's not. It's mine.
Give it back. I made this 60 years ago...
for the love of my life. For Kanna. My Gran Gran was supposed
to marry you? You are the most sexist,
immature, nut-brained- I'm embarrassed
to be related to you! Ever since Mom died, I've been doing all the work
around camp while y
ou've been off
playing soldier! Uh, Katara. I even wash all the clothes! Have you ever smelled
your dirty socks? Let me tell you, not pleasant! Ah! Settle down. No! That's it!
I'm done helping you! From now you're on your on!! [gasping] [screaming] Okay, you've gone
from weird to freakish, Katara. You mean I did that? [hooting] What I'm about to show you, I discovered in that
wretched Fire Nation prison. The guards were always careful
to keep any water away from us. They piped in dry air
and had
us suspended away from the ground
before giving us any water. They would bind our hands
and feet so we couldn't bend. Any sign of trouble was met
with cruel retribution. And yet each month I felt the full moon enriching
me with its energy. There had to be something
I could do to escape. Then I realized
that where there is life, there is water. The rats that scurried
across the floor of my cage were nothing more than skins
filled with liquid. and I passed years developing
the skill that would le
ad to my escape. Bloodbending. Controlling the water
in another body, enforcing your own will
over theirs. Once I had mastered the rats,
I was ready for the men. [groaning] And during the next full moon,
I walked free for the first time in decades. My cell unlocked by the very
guards assigned to keep me in. Once you perfect this technique, you can control
anything or anyone. But to reach inside someone
and control them, I don't know if I want
that kind of power. The choice is not yours. The powe
r exists and it's your duty
to use the gift you've been given
to win this war. Katara,
they tried to wipe us out our entire culture, your mother. I know. Then you should understand
what I'm talking about. We're the last waterbenders
of the Southern Tribe. We have to fight these people
whenever we can, wherever they are
with any means necessary. It's you.
You're the one who's making people disappear
during the full moon. They threw me in prison to rot along with my brothers
and sisters. They dese
rve the same.
You must carry on my work. I won't.
I won't use bloodbending and I won't allow you
to keep terrorizing this town! [groaning] You should have learned
the technique before you turned against me. It's impossible to fight
your way out of my grip. I control every muscle,
every vein in your body. [moaning] [moaning] [moaning] Stop. Please. [laughing] You are not the only one
who draws power from the moon. My bending is more powerful
than yours, Hama. Your technique is useless on me. [spl
ashing] [splashing] [splashing] [screaming] We know what you've been doing,
Hama. Give up.
You're out numbered. No.
You've outnumbered yourselves. Huh? [screaming] Katara, look out! [groaning] It's like my brain has a mind
of its own! Stop it, arms! Stop it! This feels weird! [groaning] I'm sorry, Aang! It's okay! [groaning] Don't hurt your friends, Katara and don't let them hurt
each other. [screaming] No! [groaning] [groaning] You're going
to be locked away forever. My work is done. Congratula
tions, Katara.
You're a bloodbender. [laughing] [Katara crying] This is a pretty basic move, but it still took me months
to perfect. So don't be frustrated
if you don't get it right away. Just push and pull the water
like this. The key is getting
the wrist movement right. Like this? That's almost right. If you keep practicing,
I'm sure eventually- Hey, I'm bending it already. Wow. I can't believe
you got that so quickly. It took me two months
to learn that move. Well, you had to figure it out
al
l on your own. I'm lucky enough
to have a great teacher. Thanks. So, what's next? This is a more difficult move.
I call it streaming the water. It's harder than it looks
so don't be disappointed if- [splashing] Nice work. Though the over the head flair
was unnecessary. Sorry. Well don't stop now,
keep 'em coming. I kinda know
this one other move, but it's pretty hard. I haven't even
totally figured it out yet. The idea is to create a big,
powerful wave. [popping, groaning] So, like this? Aang! [
grunting] I think I got the hang
of that move. What else you got? That's enough practicing
for today. Yeah, I'll say. You just practiced our supplies
down the river. Uh, sorry. I'm sure we could find somewhere
to replace all the stuff. I thought it was hard enough
when you were just an airbender. He'll be fine as long
as we don't move his body. That's his way back
to the physical world. Maybe we should get some help. No, he's my friend. I'm perfectly capable
of protecting him. Well, aren't you a
big girl now? No. Yes. Hand him over
and I won't have to hurt you. [grunting] [grunting] [grunting] [thudding, grunting] I see you've learned
a new trick. But I didn't come this far
to lose to you. [grunting] You little peasant. You've got a master,
haven't you? [grunting] [grunting] [grunting] [grunting] [grunting] [chittering] Shh. Momo, go back to sleep. [squeaking] Shh. [grunting] Shoot! Come on, water,
work with me here. Okay, what if I just, ow!
Stupid scroll! Okay, Katara, shift your wei
ght
through the stances. [grunting] [creaking] [gasping] Ah. No, let go of me! [groaning] I'll save you from the pirates. How are we gonna find
our way out of these tunnels? I have a crazy idea. What? Never mind, it's too crazy. Katara, what is it? I was thinking... the curse says we'll be trapped in here forever
unless we trust in love. Right. And here it says,
love is brightest in the dark, and has a picture
of them kissing. Where are you going with this? Well... what if we kissed? Us kissing?
See, it was a crazy idea. Us... kissing. [chuckles]
Us kissing. What was I thinking?
Can you imagine that? Yeah.
[chuckles] I definitely wouldn't want
to kiss you. Oh. Well, I didn't realize
it was such a horrible option. Sorry, I suggested it. No, no. I mean,
if it was a choice between kissing you
and dying. [scoffs] What?! I'm saying,
I would rather kiss you than die.
That's a compliment. Well, I'm not sure
which I would rather do! What is wrong with me? [sighing]
Land, sweet land. See you gu
ys in the morning. Actually,
can you help us unload? Really?
You need me to help unload Sokka's funky smelling
sleeping bag? [sniffing]
Ugh! Well, yeah. That and everything else. You're a part of our team now
and-- Look. I didn't ask you
to help unload my stuff. I'm carrying my own weight. That's not the point.
Ever since you joined us, you've been nothing
but selfish and unhelpful. What?!
Look here, Sugar Queen. I gave up everything I had so that I could teach Aang
earthbending. So don't you ta
lk to me
about being selfish! Sugar Queen? D... Did you just slam the door
in my face?! How can you be so infuriating? Should we do something? Hey, I'm just enjoying the show. Okay, okay.
You both need to calm down. Both? I'm completely calm! I can see that. We've gotta get the baby
out of here! Way ahead of ya. [grunting] [grunting] [grunting] [grunting] [grunting] [grunting] [grunting] How are you gonna fight
without your bending? [gasping] [grunting] I seem to manage. [grunting] [gasping] [pa
nting] [laughing] [groaning] [grunting] I'd really rather
our family physician look after little Zuzu if you don't mind! Zuzu, you don't look so good! [grunting] [splashing] [grunting] There you are, filthy peasant! [splashing] [coughing] [grunting] [groaning] Thank you, Katara. I think I'm the one
who should be thanking you.
