in this video I will go through how to build a website for SEO first step is to find out the subject of your website you need to know what your website will be about there are many types of websites but I will give examples for blogs or businesses this tutorial can work for any website type The Next Step though is to figure out your domain name a domain name is the address of your website so YouTube's domain name would be domain name would be youtube.com if you haven't got a business or Topic in
mind it's best to start with a broad topic that could include multiple NES you can pivot into if you struggle finding a topic think what your interests are what are you passionate about for a Blog website you can combine your name with your Niche so in my case I have a website called garage fitness.com which combines my surname and interests in working out with the word Fitness it could mean many things allowing me to talk about multiple Topics in that genre so when you do key read research you
could think like um you know types of lifts uh diet or even Tech in Fitness so like apple watches or or rings and stuff like that if you are a small business owner considering using your name with your business so as an example if I had a business fitting carpets I would use a Dain name I'll get that right eventually domain name called garage flooring.com I may have made a mistake with seor grind. co.uk though my first website my issue was is that I didn't plan for that Euro it just came to me
and I thought yeah this is good uh obviously the word SEO it's a seed for keyword phrasing is quite saturated quite competitive so probably being a bit more creative but you know this allows me to pivit if I want to be a freelancer SEO or if I want to start an agency so it has that um flexibility but again I should have really focused on my name as a niche so it be damage SEO as an example as I said earlier use your name and a broad topic or business you want to write about take advantage of you
r name as Gary ve says a famous YouTuber you are your Niche you are the niche as you plan your website you can change it based on on what people are looking for so when you do keyword research you can find what topics people are searching for on Google and then you can write about them in your broad Niche so once you have a domain and you know the subject of your website you need to find out what you need you could build a website from scratch but that requires some understanding of coding HTML
CSS JavaScript as an example for the front end and then some backend language like PHP and an understanding of databases so SQL so you could learn all that it'll take you a while um as a for developer took me a year um and you need to use that code often to keep that fresh in your brain so you could go through that route um but I would suggest a cont management system called WordPress a cont management system basically allows you to build a website without any coding experience you just drag and
drops up on the page 42% of websites on the internet are run on WordPress every SEO competitor that have seen uses WordPress so it's a safe content management system to use and is one I suggest um and if you want to find out what your competition are using um if they are using Wordpress or themes you can right click on their page inspect the code and often um using Elemental you can see it in the divs uh CSS that they've used to uh edit the page you look at the code in general and that will say
what WordPress it uses in the metatags you then want to find a WordPress theme that's not too code heavy we need to make sure that it isn't slow on some's computer so let's code the better so I use the astrop and my lighthouse speed benchmarks are pretty good but work in progress this is the results currently from seor grind. co.uk WordPress also has loads of plugins you can use they basically change your website depending on what you need them for and our will list plugins I recommend in the d
escription but one in particular I would suggest is the elemental page plugin it's worth learning as it gives you better control on the front end stuff of your page being rather stubborn I've not used it um as I like the base WordPress editor once you have a basic WordPress site host posted it's worth playing around with different plugins deleting them if necessary definitely Google good and bad ones and find out how much downloads they have in reviews get used to Wordpress if you mess up you ca
n always find a means of resetting your website with a blank WordPress usually via a hosting provider this leads to the next step number three searching for a hosting provider for your website I use Blu host now it might not even be the best one but it was the best option for what I needed it included decent hosting good server up time and a free SSL certificate and a free domain name for a year an SSL certificate is basically something that authenticates your website it also affects your websit
e's SEO but in a good way Blu host makes it super easy to start a web press site all you have to do is follow the unscreen steps and it's just a few clicks finding the right hosting is something you should browse online for and find out what's best for you depending on where you live and your needs number four page layout at this point you should have a a hosted web press site with a theme you've chosen now you can be creative you also need to figure out what pages you need if you're a Blog you
need a Blog Page a homepage an about page and a contact page for a business website you might need Services products testimonials depending on what your business is if you need some ideas look at your competition if you're a freelancer fitting carpets for example you can Google carpet fit is your location and if they appear at the top of the results check them out number five plugins as I said earlier mess around with the plugins find ones that work for you but just keep in mind that the use of
plugins and code can affect the speed of your website some plugins are better than others and use only the plugins you need number six website design this cannot be covered in this video completely because there's so much to learn and this is constantly changing some of the website design elements you need to think about include typography colors images link placement and content length this will also change as you update your website and prove it for search engine optimization as I said earlier
this never ends and number seven is content now you just need to figure out what to write about this is where keyword research comes in handy I will cover this in my next video but if you don't know what keyword research is don't worry just think about the content you will have on your pages for now start adding content to your web pages you can edit or tweak as time goes on in fact a website that is actively updated is good SEO practice a we it that's not updated one rank is good as an example
a homepage could be what service you provide or intro to your blog an about page could be about you the Blogger or the business on my websites I'm just starting out with my content this is my journey too I usually aim for one article every day alternating between my fitness and fitness blog and SEO business I'm still tweaking the pages every week finally number eight is plan the more you plan the less risks you take I highly recommend a spreadsheet for all the SEO things you need to face I will
link SE Rush's checklist in the description as it has links to guides for a lot of steps it doesn't cover everything though but it is pretty comprehensive and a good start create a visual sitemap of your page layout Trello is good for this but what I do is scribble down a plan on some paper and Link the basic layout brainstorm multiple domain name ideas before you choose one and write a list key note here make sure you do not search domain providers if your domain name is available I have read
instances where people have come back to buy a chosen domain name only for its price to increase create a list of Hosting providers have a column each for pros and cons and then price on a spreadsheet I use blue host but that might not be the best hosting provider for you as for the website design I would suggest playing around with WordPress Google online what studies have done in terms of use of color buttons hyperlinks one good um website to look at or uh article to look at is uh WC a web Com
munity accessibility guidelines and they have a rough outline of best practices um on the on the web failing that W free scools is also really good that's more to teach about development stuff there's a lot of human psychology behind the designer Pages which you can Google but often it's the case of testing stuff out to see what people click in my work history we would perform AB tests to figure out what works across the pages from buttons to Colors all the interaction elements on the page and I
'm still learning to but that's it for this video hope it's been useful if you have any questions leave a comment below or reach out on my website useful stuff and everything I've mentioned is in the description like follow And subscribe cheers
