[Music] they are dedicated to helping pets find their forever homes no matter how long it may take and here now from the pet County Animal Shelter we have um volunteer shelter director Diana MC feeders and foster mom and sponsor Leslie Slims as soon as I started talking our little buddy here got a little interested a little curious welcome so introduce us to our little furry friends here Diana okay Jasper is on my lap he's around 14 years old and Smokey he's on the floor and he is we're guessing
maybe 2 to 3 years old okay and he is looking around just so curious I've never had a cat on a leash before here on a little harness so this is this is new um Leslie you being a foster mom what do that experience like well it's really a beautiful experience because I uh Diane's allowed me to Foster mostly bottle-fed kittens oh and so um that's very fun to do as a nurturer and then just to watch them grow and and to help them start their lives and hopefully uh introduce them to their forever hom
es well yes and that is kind of what you pride yourself in is like making sure that these animals do find the right families the right fit um tell me a little bit more about the shelter itself well we were we started in 2017 201 17 2007 as a foster facility and um 10 years ago we got a building um that we're renting and um it's just it's grown from there with a foster facility it's really hard to display animals and get people to come in and um now we have people come in and it's an all voluntee
r organization so we have appointments that people come in and visit our kitties and they can visit our kitties in their own rooms so they aren't traumatized by having to move to another space and you are no kill shelter yes we are so um that's definitely making a difference in their lives I'm sure um you have a raffle coming up which is going to help you be able to um EXP B and do all the things that you want to do so tell me a little bit about this uh the idea behind the John Deere tractor oka
y we have a John Deere um lawn what a lawn mower uh that we are raffling off $25 a ticket we're only selling 300 tickets oh okay so the beginning of April um we're going to draw and um hopefully a lot make a lot of money for the new building yes that's the goal for sure well I'm glad the um mine here is getting very calm who would make a good home for these cats do you think I I think that when you adopt um an elderly cat it's nice to have a uh people who are retired who are at home and are look
ing for somebody that is is past the crazy kitten phase and wants to just sit on your lap and purr and are calm and and home a lot okay we're we're scrolling through some photos of some other cats who are also looking for homes would you say you have a lot of cats right now at the shelter or is it a little bit of everything uh we it's all cats right now okay um we are since we're a rural community the dogs go through animal control and it's mainly cats that we see coming in um and right now we a
re full so we couldn't even add any more animals we have 61 animals oh my goodness cats available for adoption some at the Animal Hospital some are fostered but most of them are at the shelter oh my is it always kitten season it is always kitten season it's not supposed to be but it is so we've got we got uh 13 kittens in our kitten room right now oh my goodness well I mean if they could just all be as chill here tell me this one's name again that is Smokey Smokey if Smokey if they could all jus
t be as chill as smokey my goodness all right he's just sniffing things around there if people are interested in Jasper or Smokey or any of the other cats that you have there at the shelter what do they need to do to be considered they well they would need to uh fill out a a questionnaire we ask a lot of questions we ask not the questionnaire is gives us a lot of information but I would rather speak speak to them and have them visit the animals it gives us a better idea of exactly who's going to
match up to them and we only show them animals that we think are suitable for their homes we're not going to waste their time or have them fall in love with an animal that's not going to work for them and people seem to appreciate that I'm sure they do well okay when how long do they have to get in on that John Deere raffle uh until the beginning of April okay so and limited tickets available as so if you are interested in helping um the shelter continue their that they're doing for our little
