College our officials for this afternoon's game great crew John Gaffney Nathan frell and Tommy morsy we're underway and it's Villanova that comes away with a tip was very businesslike when we spoke to him before the game today yeah understands how important it is to kind of not just speak the part but look the part for your team and showing them that this is a very important game I think in my opinion Tim this game is not about X's and O's it's about effort plays digging out Loose balls and comi
ng up with those 50/50s that we say in college basketball not a seat in the house today from the wing Big Ticket games and an important shot not only for Providence but for Ticket gains he loves those three balls in the corner pocket and it gets him and them started the right way Justin Moore's getting his legs underneath him now after coming back from injury Dixon on that dribble Drive fouled by gains it is a block and two shots coming his way Dixon is a load now we talk about Joshua dur on how
good he is his feet there really aren't any weaknesses in Joshua duro's game but guarding Eric Dixon it will be a test today because he stretches bigs out gets him out of their comfort zone if you will because you have to respect that he can knock down the three Providence is a team it really does rely so much on uro and Carter but against teams like Villanova that defend so well and this is one of the best defensive teams in the country they're going to need help from those other guys and tick
et gains making that first bucket was very important they'll need the same from guys like Baron the freshman and the guys that come in off their bench that can help them like a Floyd and and dual these are complimentary players that Kim English needs to get the most out of and dein Carter stepped in there for a lane violation you don't want to do that against the best free throw shooting team in America and that's what Villanova is at 81% at times you just might as well say you know what we're g
oing to just clear the lane and give you a layup that's how good they are from the foul line one two2 zone pressure navigated by Pierre who sets things up shot clock under 10 well they're closing out aren't they not much room odor's got a launch and that was a stressful possession and a tremendous defensive sequence for Villanova and that's what Kyle Neptune told you and I before the game we are a much better defensive team lately and you saw it there staying patient trusting that you have help
if someone's beaten off the dribble and not only that the most important keep a guy in front of you and I know it sounds easy Tim but in college sometimes it's very challenging to keep guys in front of you for a lot of players Bo bomba does have some headgear doesn't he suffed that facial fracture the game with Yukon but he is good to go he he looks like a member of the Seal team with that stuff on he's such a great athlete they need his floor presence tremendous defensive work leads to a turnov
er Carter almost lost it out to gains P down by Bomba got to be honest the energy in this building is very much NCAA tournament like today oduro with the quick Outlet these teams are so well scouted know each other really well and Providence is driven because they were blown out in the first meeting probably their worst effort of the year on the road they were never in the game played in Philadelphia earlier this year and it was coming off the game they had with Yukon which was a rock fight that
lasted forever I thought that Yukon game in which they were very competitive had a lot to do with their poor effort in the in the matchup that they had with vill sometimes Tim you play in those games and you do everything the right way against teams like you you play Perfect almost and you don't come up with the Win It carries over to the next game of wow what else do we have to do and it does take the air out of your saes a little bit the Friars have only taken three point shots they've not be
en able to get the ball inside Dixon unable to get that one to go he will play both outside and in face up and post up as you all know donova has really got them spread far far from the basket that big time train will fall for Baron The Chicago Kid out of St ignacius Rich Barrett has a beautiful stroke as you saw there but the body to go along with being a shooter at one end and a Defender at the other they just need him to rebound they need some help on the glass we're still talking about life
after Bryce Hopkins there's a big gap on the glass for these Friars at times Burton looking to body up gets the job done that's just strength on strength as he took it right to Baron Tyler Burton transfer from Richmond out of the state of Massachusetts Gaines is feeling it today he's feeling it punch you're ticking two trays already for him and it's nine to four Friars trying to get this young man loose and Beyond The Arc is going to be a real key today for vova a has struggled of late with his
shot there's Dixon with a beautiful move and he gets the roll he's not only good stepping out Eric Dixon back to the basket is where he started his career at Villanova but off the dribble he's so efficient with his drib dribble for a guy that size doesn't play around with the ball knows how to get right to his spot and uses that pivot but so well wow another one from downtown Pier all seven Providence shots have been from downtown and we are downtown here in Providence you'd think this was a cam
pus facility you really would Dixon rejected by odoro Outlet to Carter now that one dented the backboard and was thrown up pretty quickly by by Carter and that's going to be a block against him game with what you've got left on their schedule their schedule is imposing the rest of the way far more so than vovas well that underlines the importance of this afternoon's game and as players you just have to play the game you're going to hear a lot about where you're going to end up and what seed and
in and out just got to play the game H we touched on it young man has been struggling up late only two points in the game with Georgetown but when he gets going they're a difficult guard I think he's struggling because he has to pick his spots where he can shoot the ball he doesn't have a Long Leash as a sophomore a tremendous shooter Brendan hawson in terms of his release the rotation on that ball I would love love to see Villanova get him more touches so uh not an F1 and no foul and no foul in
cidental contact you mentioned it we have a great officiating crew and that's what happens on Saturdays these guys they can rest all week are officials and they're they're well rested up for the weekend they're still unable to get the ball inside at all they made an attempt to get it to oduro that time all threes Armstrong with a little ISO and he takes it with a little scoop to the hoop I love that kid I really do I think he to me is their best athlete OVA has on their team and the kid you're g
oing to see in our second game today Ashworth a little like Armstrong his play has improved and as a result Katon is finding its feet Yes just as Villanova has with these two additions when you've got a new point guard and particularly at Villanova when you consider the pedigree of that position he took I think the first half of the season to just get a custom to one another yeah then you start to read hey this isn't maybe this isn't the guy their fans start to give you heck stepen Ashworth deal
t with that in kraton but you got to be thick skinned and now Ashworth and Armstrong playing very well lately sees it oh durl finally gets it in the paint from Carter and you can see with his quick feet and his ability to put it on the deck what a difference this kid makes provid has scored just 16 in the entire first half in the first meeting they've already got 14 and we're not seven minutes deep in today's game and what happens Timmy when you make those threes you stretch that defense out a l
ittle bit it allows those Lanes on the interior for guys like oduro that by the way was the fewest points in the first half for Providence all year and just in just in Lino and we're tied at 14 expect this one to be wire to wire folks all the way through off the ball little jocking for position and Lance wear who just clocked in number 14 in blue the R verbial who done it look on his face picks up the foul I think that's what wear is in there for at times he can score the ball he changes shots d
efensively but when you have an interior guy you want that length and the strength on him where has that oduro quickly doubled by Lino and that's what he does a great defender heart is fouled darway du was not going to allow him to get a layup man this is one of those situations where you can't rely on just single coverage smart play by longino get your hands in there because where is he's already engaged with oduro sneak attack in a sense and it it works out for Villanova Dixon using strength a
nd girth and there's more who'll also do the same thing when you think of postup guards I don't know if there's a better one in the college game than J Mo and he's really had to change his game a little bit because of injuries knee issue this year this season missed a month and a half know he only played 13 games last year after coming off of Achilles and there's dein Carter down low talk about guys who can work in the low post from the guard position he's one of those guys that Carter and not b
ecause he's powerful but because he's just so crafty Armstrong doubled trapped leaves his way out of it and off the bounce that one was deflected beautifully by Cory Floyd number 14 in white Cory Floyd a real nice input since Hopkins went down defensively has length he's an athlete can knock down some threes as well but when you first get in the game you want to run up and down a few times to get warm I think that's one of the Great accomplishments of this season for Kim English after losing Bry
ce Hopkins and losing him early to maximize oduro and then get the contributions from his depth that he has to still be in the hunt for a postseason bid time out oh they're going to be pleading today he saved all the good stuff for inside the Huddle we asked him before the game what do you need to do today he said ah get back the defense rebound we know that that's what that's what they got to do swipes on Carter gets your hands in there that means everyone's active and helping defensively and t
here again is more basically you can take Dixon put him out at the three-point line let Moore go to the hole as basically a fiveman on the offensive side with his ability to post you up as a guard and that that makes Villanova a a very versatile offense and difficult to defend some teams we see rolling into Conference tournament play we see that a lot but more times than not we see teams that need that break in action from the regular conference play season into Conference tournament to almost r
einvigorate themselves it's almost a brand new season I think Villanova is that team yeah I'm with you numbers don't lie I get it but I think this is a better team than their record shows on paper their size their ability and they're starting to play that way well from an Athletics point of view purely from the level of athlete they have bomba being one of those Armstrong being another their younger players are their better athletes absolutely but their older players are seasoned and good to go
here's a mismatch for odoro and he is damaging down there count it and the foul and the fans are on their feet in prodcts so joshu Duro is a man just had a child a few weeks ago sure did this is what fatherhood is like you know there was some conjecture W what a man move that was his baby Gabriel is 3 weeks old a wonderful column written uh this week in big east.com if you have a chance to read it he asked his coach Kim English we brought him over from George Mason to be the the baby's Godfather
a very emotional ask for the coach we talked to him about it prior to the game and he's got uh two nephews that he's godfathers for but he was he was really emotional when he got that news and there you see the versatility and dexterity of Moore I asked my college coach to be the Godfather he said I am the Godfather period And I said Okay I understand that and he thought he was yeah I'm sure at the christening he had to tone down his bit Yeah Pierre that one goes crying off the front iron and b
omba brings it down oh Jim Calhoun I know he's tuned in today Jimmy we wish you well I'll hear about it I'm sure Dixon bringing oduro away from the basket it's part of their game plan bomba for three odoro blocks out against Dixon and he got hooked Dixon had him by the arm and John Gaffney saw it he'll pick up the foul I think Dixon just had his arm stuck in there and because oduro is just so smart he clamped down but had the ball and made it look worse than it was making the victim out of Dixon
there Pierre with Floyd along with Baron Carter and oduro the five on the deck the Providence and here comes full court pressure again bragging the ball and they really confuse Providence get the turnover and there's bomble wide open for three TJ with a Payday and that defensive move and that's a what a veteran team can do was the difference and this isn't a Villanova team that uh is the team that we've seen in the past where they're going to beat you with 25 assists they have some individuals
out here but the passing the extra passes have been the difference so far in this game odoro great pass count the basket bomba in the cylinder Floyd with a beautiful lob into oduro only he could come away with that pass see I like Eric Dixon staying behind I don't like him fighting over help you just don't know if it's coming it comes too late and oduro so smart goes up quick with it but you're right terrific pass from the corner if I'm Eric Dixon's teammate I'm saying you're just way too strong
to front the post you stay behind you use that girth and we'll be there to help you but it's just put so much pressure on your teammates on the weak side when you front especially the ball's in the corner talked to Josh oor before the game about being a father and he said gosh it's it's changed my life his his wife Caroline and and his son Gabriel means so much he's playing for them now he says a wonderful thought oh and by the way going to class y studying practice indeed wow more playing the
nylon song listen this is prime time for him he's been banged up now for 2 years if you want to play basketball Beyond College he needs to be at his best from this point point forward Baron with an answer 2624 and back and forth we go in Providence parter is a great defensive player he's trying to check more great defensive work on that end and odoro with a quick Outlet to Carter we've not heard from him on this end as yet he's searching for one and he got it great recognition you see the younge
r ha in front of you you know laterally he's not going to keep up with you in terms of footwork attack you could tell Carter wanted the Rock in that sequence Bou spotted and it's a reach and you try to press them they make the extra pass it allows space for guys like Justin more to knock down threes wide open well even though he's been hurt a lot remember he started since he was a freshman that's a 5-sec violation Armstrong did not get the help he needed until late Moore came over there a great
defense by Providence and they get it back and this isn't a Villanova team that runs a lot of special specialty outabounds unders that's where you just got to get back in the back court just throw the ball in and Live to play another possession both teams shooting at a high clip another one from D who is duel purposed today yeah I saw garway do all in the the locker room before the game and I didn't even ask him a question he was just like feeling good okay I love that I love that with young pla
yers assert themselves and he's a special talent as well for Providence going to be a really good one has to find his Pace in his Tempo I do out with a nice little ball fake there yeah but that's where I want him to catch it shot fake don't don't pass fake first first again a trap and they're up against the clock and Carter's just got to throw one up there and another violation so Villanova's defense answers the challenge after the turnover we've had three ties three lead changes no lead greater
than six so far with six and change remaining here in the opening half bottom line it looks like March doesn't it it really does it feels like it too you can see on the players faces at times surprised that the defense is running them down to three seconds on that shot clock when they used to getting shots off more comfortably har the Maryland transfer gets it into the painted area and knocks it down I really think at times this Villanova team can go four guys they can post up I would even say
five if you have Armstrong on a smaller guard and that's a nice luxury to have when you have guys who could knock down threes as well that ended an8 nothing Providence run Carter playing a little pick and roll game with odoro great defense here from bomba oh bomba may have gotten away with one there look like he may have taken an extra step more off the bounce where the rebound tied up by odoro that's where I'd like to see Justin Moore try to attack the young man Rich Baron's feet that's been on
e of the the deficiencies for young guys in college basketball you come in you pick your score but you got to defend if you want to stay on the floor Baron's done a better job of it lately but that's what just more has to know all right I got to put him in the mixer test those feet you can get a 17t jump shot anytime you want I'm going to take you back to some oldtime basketball for both of these schools okay before the Big East was born Villanova was a team that made the final 4 in 70 Dave gavi
t with Ernie D and Barnes and Company LED in 73 a lot of history and tradition in eastern basketball even even prior to the formation of the Big East but the reconfigured Big East has two Old Line members and these two are the coner off the window pan and he can be a pain to the opposition so remember Tim the way this game started Providence was stretching them out knocking down threes and now what happens is that interior is open for guys especially guys like Devin Carter to hit downhill really
no shot Blocker in there with Hakeem Hart having to tend to Castro and and really Devin Carter has led this team in so many ways such a phenomenal young man but also obviously a a terrific player he's been a great leader for Kim English all season long even before Bryce hofk was injured well and this is also a little bit like Justin Moore I think Carter is the guy between now and the Big E tournament that you expect to play at his highest level of the year this time of the season I mean we're t
alking about 3 weeks ago a front runner for Player of the Year struggled a little bit because of all the responsibility that's come his way recent weeks he takes down that rebound off the ER shot from Dixon or almost turn that one over Floyd looking inside side Castro is the intended receiver disrupted by Villanova har leaves it for Dixon the trailer he was not ready to pull the trigger this guy is off the front iron for har I like the defensive stop though by Villanova hands you could see it wa
s almost telegraphed at the top from Floyd he wanted to take advantage of the mismatch with Armstrong and Castro and then it creates an opportunity for vova just couldn't cash it in but I like that defensive intensity and and Hands by Nova conter it's now a 14-2 run for the homestanding friers they rise to attention at the amp a bomba blast with a silencer counted in a foul defense they're going to play you differently now they're going to run you off that three-point line both teams so do you h
ave the wherewithal to now get downhill get into the paint use your interior that's the real challenge as you get deeper into these games PJ bomba who hails from the Bronx New York but migrated into Philadelphia from Washington State by the way speaking of great teams out west how about that club huh yeah surprising a lot of people are they ever you're looking for a team to be a surprise in the upcoming tournament it might be that team oruro trying to chase that one down it was last touched by A
rmstrong so it will stay on this side of the floor says John Gaffney how about the athleticism of John Gaffney though I know I knew he could run but I didn't know he could bend over like that wow on top of it we love our officials Big East guys which which by the way which by the way aners people in social media but you know what you're not on social media so it doesn't really matter man they're a part of the game too they're people too folks refs are people all human beings odoro off the heel a
nd it's pulled down by Justin Moore I just have everyone send all their complaints about me to you oh I get them tweet it to you I'm sure you do I get them that means they're listening to him well means they're watching better to be hated than not cared for it all that's right either way heart wide open they're daring him to shoot wow he knocks that one down for a triple look this is the time of year where you just throw out the percentages and even as coaches and you just trust your veterans yo
u have to trust Hakeem Hart he thinks he can make it he's open you got to let him shoot it I think this is the time where you want to be playing most freely as a player and coaches get that I think reviews on Hart have been somewhat indifferent he could certainly be a Difference Maker on that blow by Floy couldn't get it the fall but oduro there to clean it up he Providence has had every answer for those three-point shots that a lot of them have been open you talk to coach English and listen to
his huddles but really the answer has been there for Providence they just have to do probably a better job on the defensive not allowing those wide openen threes you know 8 minutes ago Carter had not scored since he got that first bucket that he searched he's added eight more for 10 points he can get him in bunches and quietly that's the other thing too is he I know he made a 30-footer but really knows how to go get him odoro lost the dribble again great defensive Collapse by heart Armstrong to
the rack knocked out of bounds by Dell Armstrong has to know when you put that ball down and you see a Defender running you have to absorb the contact him you can't try to shoot some acrobatic shot and hope you get the foul call the priority has to be getting to the basket and while you're going to the basket try to get fouled but so many young players avoid that contact and they're leaving a lot of points out there don't be afraid to get hit I you hit me every game name ends in a vowel comes wi
th a territory pal speaking of Ernie D Gregorio I saw him earlier today he's written a book now about his times here with Dave gavit great read by the way one of the alltime greats in Providence College Ernie D Ernie 3734 you see the shot clock game clock differential and they're going to use as much of it here as possible try to extend their lead Pier for oduro in midair and he's unable to get a shot off again great defense by fanova that's the third shot clock violation that they've induced in
this game and yet the friers with 37 points in large measure because of the quality shooting from downtown yeah really nice job defensively just packing it in the last couple of possessions packing that pain and Jaden Pierre has to understand you see three down there someone's got to be open stay on your feet maybe probe a little bit but that clock speeds you up when you see it ther 10 well little Nova now with a chance to cut into the lead maybe tie the game before the break with 5.2 more need
s help and Armstrong picks it up into to end he goes up againsts the clock everything but the Finish then out asking Carter to carry it and and I think that that could be something we need to watch for here in the second half if I'm Kyle Neptune I I'm okay right now being down three and knowing that Eric Dixon is one for six yeah with Four Points by the way they are vova after that turnover player control foul it'll go the other way something to remember as bomba gets the foul they are three and
nine when trailing at halftime so it's not as if they've not come from behind to win some games I think among the coaches though how Neptune while Kim English was really a little more businesslike than usual prior to today's game I thought Kyle Neptune had a relative calm about him today when we were visiting with him and he's still in a lot of ways getting used to these size 22s of Jay WS that he had to fit into You could argue that he really needs to make the tournament this year it's been wr
itten about oduro got a rare look on the Baseline that time in short armed it I mean this is a Villanova team that's got expectations and has all year of getting back they are not accustomed to missing the NCAA in backto back years and Armstrong off the bounce oh I think Mark Armstrong is lacking is just a little bit more confidence and belief that he can be a leader on this team and it's hard when you have veterans in front of you but guys have done it there before brunson's and the Archie diak
os and the gesp they've done it before when there's olded players on their team how many times do you hear coaches say just be you just play your game I think that's where Armstong is right now up against the clock again and they're going to have to settle for a three and it'll have to be from way downt and it's another shot clock violation that's four of them that Villanova has been able to come up with today they're not live ball turnovers but basically it is a turnover when you don't get a qu
ality look losing a possession Armstrong again off the bounds so and right away a FS1 look forward to getting together with our entire team Studio as well as our remote broadcasting trium always a lot of fun at Madison Square Garden after a quick timeout Robin's given up a couple of easy ones to Armstrong and you can see the defensive pickup full court is there for Villanova Crow still on its feet oh yeah here at The Amp Pierre KN to be tried to use the glass but only on their feet because they
don't sit down until a basket is scored in each half Dix with a three ball and not scored by the other team just to be clear yeah the middle e folks last four minutes of the first half first four minutes of the second and Bova a veteran team playing as if they own the first four in the last four got to find a way to get this kid the ball right there or lower and a foul picked up by bomba in the mismatch this is what you love about Eric Dixon is talked about it he was one for six in that first ha
lf but the unselfishness a little too much sagging by Devin Carter there you can't you come out in the second half you you can't play the numbers of certain players and Eric Dix is one of those guys you got to respect him throughout aduro trying to work pick and roll but gains there a long time the ball got stuck with da and now we get a a bailout foul really here with eight on the shot clock now we have a conference maybe there's a uh maybe there's an overrule coming let's see looks like Tommy
morresy and John gney having a conversation here well dein Carter was ripping the ball down and through this is an NBA move you know his dad played a long time in the NBA you rip through when you're trying to get that foul call yeah but it's just not at this level ref say it's not a natural shooting motion so wave it off there was a wave off here after the conversation by the way it was a good no call yeah next year maybe he'll get three yeah yeah threee throws for that odoro he can make that sh
ot way too strong with this one though Rush little NOA is fine with him taking shots from there more scoop to the hoop not to be and Carter brings it down there so much better at transition but Villanova's transition to defense has been solid all day yeah they point and talk they're so interchangeable that it doesn't matter who switches on to who they they do a nice job of staying in front of guys da with that little Runner will not get it to go oduro was the last to touch it these are stressful
shots that Villanova is forcing Providence to make I think the number to pay pay attention to was right at that 7071 but Providence is 17-2 when they score 71 or more Villanova's 15 and three when they hold teams to under that indeed that's that breaking point that 70 point mark folks to pay attention to more off the bounce off the front iron and it's out of bounds to Providence that's just too easy but it's a well-run set by Villanova I would take more and Dixon and a Twan set every possession
if if I had to they just they know how to play off of one another they've done it for so long and very unselfish just couldn't get it to fall Cory Floyd the red shirt sophomore transfer from Yukon is checked in number 14 in white Baron goes to the bench looking for their first bucket of this half Providence a lot of dribbling up top there by two strong off the heel and it's still an over fans are still standing 0 for five to open this half for the friers Dixon that might have been a little quic
k for the veteran well do they love their team here in Province car with a fade away that goes off the heel they don't only cheer when things are going well here at Providence this crowd is so knowledgeable of the game and their team especially they know how to get them going Armstrong using The Pick of Dixon Moore being toed by gains and there's a nice maneuver defensively by the ticket and it's out of bounds they're going to say it'll stay on this end of the floor at the amp this afternoon col
lege basketball should not be an afterthought until March well the pig skin kind of uh gets in the way a little bit to me and so does other big events you know Allstar Weekend I can go on and on don't get me going sorry sorry back to the game folks so Justin what a great job I talked about how sometimes out on under you just want to get the ball in great job by Nova well that's as good a look as odo's gotten inside though all day Carter is there to clean it up and that's kind of what dein Carter
does I think the great ones I like to say they give the game what it needs and that's exactly what the game needed for Providence I mean every trip is so meaningful for both of these teams you can just tell that's why this house is packed husten open for three wow kit is such not a good but a great shooter and there will be a time where he's going to get his reps y he doesn't shoot the ball far close to enough for me Floyd gets it inside to oduro how quick was that double down by H and the foul
the end result I think oh got little wolfing going on Dixon and H they're all asking for a te and Kim English wants it he wants it right now look there's there are some emotions happening on the sidelines not just on the court and in the crowd but Kyle Neptune and Kim English they may be feeling a little on edge this time of year which you should this is a huge game they know that well English felt that there was a little more than just a foul committed right there even aor was just run into an
d then afterwards some wolfing took place and Kyle Neptune thought there was an elbow by oduro and aw through that one up in traffic again Villanova so disruptive near the 10 on the defensive end critical time here for Providence longino boy they're getting great spacing and outstanding looks and as we mentioned at halftime Providence unable to get the ball inside and suddenly the three ball has ended for them I I just I love the way and I've loved it all season along the way this banova team is
built y they have size they're I say they have fungibility you can change guys into different positions and you come off the bench with some guys in Lino and Pon I mean they they really are starting to find their way and obviously Providence is tapped into every ounce of of what they have all season long for Kim English and that's why we're at this point oh H's free again look at that stroke Big Time rotation and another time out by Kim English and buddy Jay Wright is uh busy today working some
ball somewhere else but I'm sure he's tuning in when he can and he's got to be happy to see Villanova playing the Villanova way right now yes unselfish and Kyle Neptune said didn't say one thing about offense it was all about the way they've been playing defense absolutely they've shown it today so far Providence is in a must score mode now and there's oduro again on that roll effort right where he wants it gains with an extra pass H with a deflection and the foul is spotted inside may have got
ten him with the body but yeah how about that d a great CH out by Austin running to help on the pick and roll he was there quick Falls gets up and then challenges to make it a difficult shot for Ticket gains look at this he's there they don't give it to him he doesn't lay there and complain he gets right back up he does foul but he challenges it I love that effort this we talked about this at the beginning of the game these games aren't necessarily about guessing what the other team's going to d
o or throwing in even little wrinkles it's about effort ticket gains just played for English at three schools was a two-year starter at George Mason barely played at Tennessee as a sophomore this is a young guy that's well traveled and a bit like oduro has been valuable and someone very close to his coach here comes the Providence crowd and a little full court pressure one two two have to be careful though to retreat once you just a little token Zone there full court pressure when you when you d
o that you got to be careful too much space for Villanova is a Bad Thing Armstrong a fade away man yeah he is feeling it telling you these two sophomores playing with a different confidence right now I believe a lot of that comes from their their staff the coaching staff to give them a little bit more leash and they've done that at Nova and again the three ball that was once falling for Rich Baron not going now I know we like to put a lot of emphasis on good play poor play all strictly on the pl
ayers but coaches have a lot to do with that especially for players mental states and believing in them and and and a lot of these younger players out here want to want to feel that they're needed and wanted and I think we're seeing that on both sides right now well you support message keep as we like to say on my teams keep violating their space yeah and that's what they're doing defensively Villanova is is is just disrupting everything especially on the interior that Providence is trying to ac
complish I'm trying to make a career out of violating your space every you have accomplished that my friend longino up against the clock well it went off as though there had been a violation but I gather they believe the ball did catch some Rim that's a good odd by the officials sometimes you hear it and even the officials react and say all right dead ball but the momentum now is broken for both teams onino oh he went to his left hand that time good defense in that sequence for Providence Carter
to Baron it they got it and just as Neptune dialed up he said they're more than capable of a run and in this building you bet they are one of the best teams at turning a Miss shot into a fast break point in the country at the right times is Providence h two open shot clock down to six more to wear great pass just a beautiful find out of his own postop 56- 44 well Villanova again is one of those teams 11 assists today on 21 made field goals but they don't average a lot of assists there's a lot o
f individual play a lot of talent offensively but you have to respect that they're going to make the right passes Baron again teeing it up off the front row Bo oduro got the ball in a pretty good spot Donnie passed up the shot you talked about it earlier Tim you lose some confidence when you see some doubles and things like that so he's got to regain that orur they need him how about the vision Justin Moore we've talked about a lot of the things he does so well in scoring in defense late look at
that he acknowledges there a double team and doesn't just throw the ball makes a great delivery to wear to finish such a smart player 23-year-old fifth year player as we mentioned has started since February of his freshman year and even with all those injuries it's a lot of playing time here he is again right on Q from downtown balloons to 15 mova is chasing Shadows right now Tim and they are just short on their recovery Villanova is making them pay oh Duro got free that time but again did not
look for a shot right away and again that one's under duress he likes the left shoulder and Eric Dixon is playing that side he's forcing him to go away from it and just that Split Second of not shooting the comfortable shot allows Villanova now to bring another player into ur's Vision yeah absolutely Providence now really has to get stops and some serious adjustments have to be made offensively Dixon ah you got to go to the right hand tough he tried to go back to the strong hands Carter knows ho
w to take over when points are needed and he'll be fouled knows how to get fouled too more importantly stop the clock give your uh Team a chance to score with that clock stop so important when you're down big bomba the foul he becomes the first Wildcat to pick up a third robinin will go to its bench rapael Castro comes into the game as does Cory Floyd Baron and Dell sit down but to your point about Carter I mean he's been a stat sheet stuff for his entire career 10 double doubles third in the Bi
g East in rebounds despite standing just 63 he can go get it wherever the ball is is 22 is going to be nearby they've never needed him more than they need him right now well he he just does he does the things and and has those gifts that you can't teach and that's the competitiveness he is a competitor plays hard it's hard to teach those things off the inbounds English got him in for just that reason how about that out of bounds under I am a sucker for beautiful out of bounds under plays that's
only the fifth point for the Providence bench they've been outscored 20 to5 by Villanova's bench brilliant play Dixon that was a tough shot Castro's link was a problem for him what you lose on the offensive end with Castro you you gain defensively because of his his length that one just grazed the rim for Jaden Pierre and here comes Armstrong the other way crossover big time could pay it off a good move and quality defense there from Castro he denied without fouling Carter creates the open look
again wul short for Pierre got to get some help the big players are Carter and oduro but you got to get help from your complimentary guys when you're playing a team as solid as Villanova good getting down hill off of makes and misses and they really just haven't done much of that in terms of scoring the ball out of transition well Josh odoro who many would say has been the top newcomer in this conference certainly has picked up as that's a walk that time from Dixon went up in the air came down w
ith it but odo's line in this game Donnie is four out of 12 from the floor six boards only nine points I he's rushed his shots and you made a point to me during the break Providence as a team has looked hurried here in the second half and it's hard to get your big guy in a comfortable spot when you're rushing through your offensive sets trying to find the first open shot he's got to be the focus there he is off the pick and roll now work on Dixon gets the job done right there more of that is wha
t the Friars need but even that was really hurried yep yep a girl caught it didn't even look to the basket just caught it and started his move got away with it but now you see a little bit of a Zone show here got to pay attention to that foul line and that Baseline if you're Providence great work by Castro they bring oduro in but they keep Castro on the floor with him to deal with Dixon 12 on the shot clock as they trigger it in it's manageable for the home team only down 11 with almost 7 minute
s remaining art chases it down the floor and brings it back shot clocked down to eight right away Armstrong to the 10 turns it over Carter in the open floor where he's comfortable and out for the three o gor the offensive rebound Carter pumps Castro trying to keep it alive and they whistle a foul yeah I don't like the Devin Carter kick to do all in the corner I just don't like it if that's one of your Shooters ticket gains yes that's nothing against the Freshman Duo it's not but you want to keep
the pressure not only on the defense on the refs as well Tim under 7even minutes to play you put your head down up here Deon Carter take it to the 10 take it right to the basket absorb some contact get a chance for an N1 too unselfish for my taste with de card on that play one of nine from downtown this half for Providence now you're trying to mount a comeback hey you might go there and get a an old fashion three right absolutely Gaines hello how do you do big ticket again if it's ticket gains
in the corner again nothing against du all but if it's gains you find him nice correction there by Carter seven nothing Run for the friers got to be a block yep it is smart play really by Tyler Burton so another nice job by gains getting to that corner he loves that three ball corner pocket but that was a different situation for dein Carter he's now at the at the top looking for guys versus getting downhill really nice find and got to try to put it together look plenty of time down eight down ni
ne got to do it with your defense if you're Provident so that's where it starts just the first foul on aduro Tyler Burton he and hard have been healthy additions for this Villanova team in complimentary roles for Kyle Neptune 6151 all starts with the picking roll oduro he's going to work here against where wow nice job by Josh you know he's got great feet this quickness with the ball I think is what surprises people when they're defending him yeah both bigs Dixon and oduro the way they handle th
e ball in those close quarters 10 12 ft really nice Justin Moore for three quick outlet from Dell into Carter's hands where he's dangerous working on more strength on strength there oduro bothered felt like he was fouled no whistle now Castro was just in a hurry to get rid of the basketball that's an example of being too hurried right yeah absolutely in and the foul on the reach by du providence's youth I think from time to time shows up in stressful situations versus Villanova talked about them
being still an old team the wild cats they got some younger players that are very talented but they have a an older mindset to their game yeah this is a team that has five 1,000 Point scores on it in ganova old winds especially late Burton from downtown the triple is huge and Yukon and Marquette that could make a run to the final four it's the Blue Jays with the way shyan's playing with the way ashth is coming along and let's not forget they were one bad call and one second away from the final
four a year ago Baylor sirman is my biggest player of the year I just think he's at the top best rebounder in the Big East as at a small forward even shooting guard position top five in scoring at so much terrific passer defending will give up his body I just a huge fan of Baylor shyam this time of year this is a huge offensive possession for Providence stop the bleeding with this 11-point Villanova lead and there is a foul inside spotted by Nathan Barrell really nice job by Villanova crowding o
duro though I know there's some reaching in and trying to come up with that ball but every second that off the clock so it's a tougher time for Providence to get back into this yeah and they have just made every touch for odoro a pain they really it feels like that old J Wright Villanova basketball listen that we know that Kyle Neptune is is pulling a lot of pages from that book which he should one of the best coaches to ever race the sidelines in J right but you just get a sense that they've go
tten back to some Basics fillova on the defensive end and that's making the offensive teams just so uncomfortable yeah well there Jay's approach was a feel approach not necessarily a guy that dialed up plays necessarily they were not robotic with offense it was ball fakes with defense it was you know who to double so double very much about the matchups y down to nine after the free throws if they're going to make the push Providence it's got to be with some stops on this end right now and they'r
e really good at speeding you up with their pressure Providence they need to do that right now and there's Carter in the passing Lane lost his dribble regathered it well not a lot of guys could catch up to that huh talk about just a phenomenal athlete that what a veteran move by Carter another rip though I don't think they're going to give him a three-o shot on that again oh he wanted it I think there are a lot of ways to get into your three-point shot take a look left side of your screen the of
ficials yeah English is really upset that he didn't get that I think I you know I can see it from both ways as a player you try to get into your shot anyway you can yeah from a an official's perspective they don't feel it's a natural elevation into a jump shot so instead of three it's one and one all the more important which is still fine because you're scoring with the clock stopped I'm really impressed with Chim English though aren't you what a job he's done I it's just such a valuable spot fo
r the Big East I for the entire conference he really is so valuable to this league I think Shaheen Holloway and Kim both have had remark couple years getting a maximum from their team there's oduro on the offensive glass back up and a foul think they tagged Dixon that time yeah I thought Eric Dixon might have had that ball but if Muro just goes up now it's going to be an easy call this a hard one for officials scrums going on good fight there by oduro he turns back that Tommy Mars he saw that se
t when he saw that left arm bar go into the midsection that's when he picked it up that's number two on Eric oh you got to make those when you reach one hand in I think the refs are they're going to call it when you grab with two to try to get the ball I think they really feel you're trying to get the ball instead of just slapping down at it we had another violation it appears and now Kyle Neptune wants an explanation well I thought he had a a violation but no they say no he was not in so only o
ne left and he got it lead is down to seven rence was last in free throw shooting percentage coming into today they're seven of nine at the strike today have to be on a string defensively got to communicate as loud in this building but Providence you got to talk your way through it Baron trying to work through chasing haon picks up a foul running through the pick right there yeah you know I I would have looked at the screen on Eric Dixon I thought he kind of poked that tail end out there that Da
r a and and Kim English would agree with you on that sort of got that Charles Barkley hip out there didn't he yeah he he got away with one there because that was I thought the reason Baron committed that foul Dixon cleared out against odoro good defense here from Josh Dixon again stays with it though oh and he gets the roll touch them all the iron kind to Eric Dixon it is so tough he has put his time man we know that Eric Dixon and that's why Kyle Neptune says get out of his way he's going to ge
t us a bucket looking more all over Carter just not allow him a chance to get the ball Dell from downtown a two possession game here we go more times than not it's easy when you live by the kiss rule keep it simple you know the rest and that's what duall did there catch and shoot more count it just a silencer maybe a dagger from J Mo 6960 car was not ready for the pass huge turnover there by du all just looked the other way well English is talking to Devin Carter while he's coming up the floor a
nd and the pass was made but dools got to see that take a look talk about a Silent Assassin fre ball Corner Pocket Armstrong end to end can't get it to go odoro clears 90 seconds left down nine Carter for three too strong oduro clears you know Carter wants it double Deuce trying to bring on a foul could not get it and a dead ball foul as Dixon comes away with a rebound and that turnover after the more three looks to be the dagger to close this baby out for the road team and what a huge win it wo
uld be for Villanova granted we've still got 114 left but to have an empty trip and a quick turnover after that really really tough to get over you got to take care of the ball though I thought Mark Armstrong's attempt at the basket that previous play you don't need it you know you're in the driver's seat between you you can as we say Milk The Cow take your time you don't have to be would say don't need it don't need it don't need it yeah the old cow almost time to begin fouling but not this guy
don't want to foul HW oh they have gotten a tie ball yeah see the two hands T see you going with two hands they'll give you that jump ball you go with one it's an easy foul and the ball goes back over to Providence that's a really nice job watch as ticket gains comes from behind and he goes in with two hands even Cory Floyd they're reaching with two well the refs aren't inclined to call a foul as if you reached in with just one hand pal Neptune still pleading his case I love the passion look at
that face and I've never seen a ref change the call because of a coach bleeding or a player for that matter oh you know what all right we'll switch it you know I I you were convincing let's switch the call doesn't happen now you got to have a bucket here Carter has to know that inside Baron double teamed again in a lot of traffic look how stressed they are Villanova has really confused them and a rushed airball thrown up it's on the deck looks like we're going to get another tie and the arrow t
his time would be with Lanova the experience of the Wildcats really showing up in the second half and particularly when challenged in the last 5 minutes here and here we are at that 69 point mark yeah talked about the 60s keep teamed in the 60s and they're just they're so so good and this is this is a loss that Providence might be able to absorb but you could really argue that ganova could not afford a loss today not with what's left on their schedule well it makes the next two games especially
the one against Yukon for Providence that much more important I mean against Providence against yeah vova and a quick foul given up by Cory Floyd well Providence last game against you contemp right yeah you know there's a great opportunity for you but Justin Moore will trigger it in I think you've seen though what your point was Donnie today on the pregame show when you were talking with mikee Hill and the guys they asked you the question who has the greater opportunity to make a run if they wer
e to get in off the bubble and make it to the NCAA Villanova is a highquality team that plays with a great degree of intelligence and once they get to play someone that's outside their league they'll be all the more dangerous yeah it's just again can't say it enough you got five players in bomba and Dixon and more and Hart and Burton they've all scored a th000 points that's saying something those are true veterans and then you throw longino in there who knows this system veteran and then two won
derful wonderful and they showed it today sophomores and Armstrong and H and uh vova has gotten Justin Moore back in just for nick of time I mean and his game the elevation with his jump shot may not have been there the first couple of games back but boy oh boy as he returned to form at just the right time for a wild cat and here they are again with another turnover to close things out as always partner a lot of fun it's always tremendous to be with you especially this time of year and you know
that partner our game today produced by Brad wymer directed by Dustin Dente got appreciable help from Josh Bry our broadcast associate fine work by all of them and everyone a part of our
