tomorrow we're expected to get major newss about the fate of the Washington Bridge good evening I'm Mike mvo and I'm Shannon hey the governor announcing late this evening that he'll announce the next steps during a news conference Thursday afternoon today marks 92 days since the abrupt closure of the westbound side of the Washington Bridge on December 11th Kayla fish is in East Providence with what local lawmakers are saying ahead of the big reveal Kayla well those I spoke with say they haven't
received any heads up or specific information about what this announcement will be so they'll be listening intently just like the rest of us but they're looking forward to having some sort of answer I think the hardest part is how unpredictable it is state senator Pam laua represents the East Bay which has been hit hard by the closure of the westbound side of the Washington Bridge especially when it comes to traffic some days are you know an extra 15 or 20 minutes some days are an extra 45 she s
ays for residents and businesses it's been a long three months and I think that everybody on the East Bay just wants to know know like what's what's the plan where are we going forward how long will it be and by this time Thursday we should have a better idea Governor Dan mcke rot director Peter alvid the governor's Deputy Chief of Staff and representatives from an engineering consulting firm will be holding a news conference to reveal the findings of various reports about the structural Integri
ty of the bridge now the time has come Frank Rigo the vice president of the East Providence city council says his biggest concern is is how the fate of the bridge could have a long-term impact on his City hopefully there's enough solutions that the state will provide us so that people feel comfortable getting in and out the timeline for repairs is still unknown a draft engineering report obtained by Target 12 revealed the bridge May either need major repairs or a complete tear down and rebuild w
hich federal officials have said could take two years both rioo and Senator laua tell me they're hoping to have a better grasp of that timeline Thursday at least having an end point where we can say we expect the bridge will be ready and everything will get back to some semblance of normal um I think everybody needs that Target to kind of move forward and this briefing about the fate of the bridge is taking place Thursday at 3m. in East Providence I'm Kayla fish 12 news thank you Kayla and as sh
e mentioned we'll be carrying that news conference live on our erir and you can also watch it on our website wpri.com
