Salt Lake Temple Renovation Reaches Its Apex

The sunny skies reflected the joyful mood on the construction site of the Salt Lake Temple renovation on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. Nearly four years after the iconic spires of this house of the Lord were first removed for refurbishment, more than 800 construction team members gathered at a private event for the construction company to celebrate the placement of the final reinforcing steel pyramid atop the temple. Shortly after the temple renovation began in 2020, crews carefully removed the spire stones from atop the temple for refurbishment. The exact position of each stone was mapped, catalogued, tracked and stored for cleaning to ensure a seamless return to the original spots on top of the temple. Beginning in summer 2023, reinforcing spire steel plates and the refurbished spire stones began to be added to the house of the Lord.

It's a great feeling to see the work and collaboration from many brilliant and experienced people come together in a good way. The vertical quarry needed to be done before we got to the actual steel. Hundreds of acres needed to be cored in order for the stone temple to receive that steel. And the spire is just the pinnacle moment of everything that lies unseen behind the stone. You know, every day we have hundreds of people on the job site. It’s one of those things. You just got to take it one p
iece at a time and trust those you’re working next to and beside, and that they're doing their part to pull this together. All in all, the team has just been fantastic. There is no denying that there is a special, special feeling here, you know, whether you’re of the belief or not, there is something special happening here.
