the Senate has voted today to advance a foreign aid supplemental that's right this new bill includes roughly $95 billion in Aid to Israel Ukraine and the Indo Pacific it passed with a 67 to 32 vote there in the upper chamber and this was a procedural vote that means that the Senate still needs a full floor vote on the legislation and in this case it does not include as you may recall any border security funding or Asylum reform that has been a contentious issue particularly more so in recent day
s a bill though including those Provisions uh you may recall failed in the Senate just yesterday CBS News Congressional correspondent Nicole Killian is following the negotiations on Capitol Hill Nicole this vote apparently coming together because they couldn't agree on Border related issues um talk to us more about how we got to where we are today yeah well the irony of that is now some Senate Republicans want to put border Provisions back into this package and so that has been a part of the del
iberations and kind of why now that they have vot voted to advance this package why could be a while before we see a final vote because many Senate Republicans do want to insert more border related Provisions because they still stick by their argument that before we send money to places like Ukraine we need to take care of our own border first so Senate Majority Leader Mitch M uh Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer rather uh has indicated that this is going to be a robust process he said on the
floor a short time ago uh that are going to work until they get this bill done uh but as you can imagine it could be uh a very lengthy uh and process and debate to try to reach agreement because some Republicans still want to have very stringent measures in this package which is something Democrats may not support so it will still require some negotiation if they do decide to fold the Border back in well so given all that Nicole what are the next steps for the legis ation and what's its prognos
is for actually making it uh through the house well again we'll have to see kind of how this amendment process works it hasn't completely been ironed out yet but you know we know that the White House and Senate Democrats really would like to advance this package you know leader Schumer kind of had this plan B in his pocket knowing that that border deal crafted by Senator Cinema lenford and Murphy would likely fail uh so the hope is that they can at least clear this one get it over to the house a
lthough even there it could potentially face an uncertain future and speaking of the house Nicole Republican Congressman Steve scalise is expected to uh return in the house next week his office saying his blood cancer now in complete remission absolutely fantastic news uh but politically speaking what might that mean for the GOP impeachment efforts against the homeland security secretary which failed and they say they will bring back well this is a significant announcement because of Republicans
were down uh particularly with respect to Majority Leader Steve scales he was the only Republican who didn't cast a vote this week as part of that impeachment resolution and as you saw you know the numbers uh were really thrown off for instance when Democrat uh Al Green of Texas ended up showing up he just got over surgery and came to the capital uh unexpectedly people thought he wouldn't be there and that is what ultimately caused that vote to be a tie and it was broken by another Republican w
ho just switched his vote procedurally so that Republicans could then bring this up again and that is what speaker Johnson told me earlier this week that he does expect that if Republicans if and when Republicans do bring this up he expects this impeachment measure will pass all right Nicole Killian thank you very much you bet

Senate can advance all they want, it’s not gonna make it through the House if Trump says so.

@micaiahm1

We need representatives who work for Americans

@fluffydynomite3023

Remember all of this when you vote!

@JooDawg

America last, a senate classic. At least they’re consistent!

@chairmanofthebored6860

Because our country isn't important to these people, but their kickbacks from the MIC are.

@mariehartley6840

Stop blaming Biden as we just have been informed it's also the Senates fault ....... How dare they sit down on our tax dollars debate and find solutions for OTHER COUNTRIES INSTEAD OF THIS ONE

@ErnestLauzon

I recognize there are congressmen and senators who are not loyal to Trump and are there to serve the american people. The only problem is, there aren't enough.

@elielsandoval.author

So why all the sudden all news channels stopped talking about the EPSTEIN CLIENT LIST? 🤔🤑🤑🤑💰 we need answers!!

@gusjackson3658

This may just be enough of a shock to Trump to make him burst something.

@debbierose2193

At taxpayer expence

@truckdriver3121

Lankford negotiated out the border issue. GENIUS!

@michaelraines93

"my god mabel, we got lawyers in tha barn"! a room full of hungry legislators feeding at the hog trough!

@PaulHedges-zy8vb

Not our wars. We have to borrow the money. Israel is rich. Israel can pay for their own war or borrow the money themselves.

@bethparker1500

Lankford is a hero for all his work.

@jimmietanner52

VOTE HELL NO !

@georl1

Anyone ever notice that when there is a bipartisan bill up for a vote that it's almost always held up by a MAGA Republican lawmaker. In the Senate, Rand Paul is holding up this bill and in the lower house, Johnson may not even bring it to the floor for a vote. Hopefully, these MAGA lawmakers who are up for re-election in November will be ousted so things that need to get done can get done again.

@ginakinzler9090

Glad to see some progress....keep the Ukraine 🇺🇦 🙌 🙏 train going!!!!!

@shawnsdrumcave

Not another dime for other countries borders until ours is secure. This is a sham...

@marciafierro4931

HELL YEAH! just get it done for national and international security, Puitn and Trump will choke 😂😅

@otto2579

Why do we keep giving money to other countries! We are 34 trillion in debt!
