Hello families,
I'm Professor Philip Morgan from the University of Newcastle. Hi I'm Bronte Morgan. If you are looking for some fresh inspiration for family
physical activity and exercise at home and would like to have a go at the
practical activities that have benefited thousands of parents and children in our
family programs we have developed Award-winning programs Dad! That's very true, they have won multiple national and
international awards. Sounds pretty good to me! Then the Family Movemen
t YouTube channel might just be for YOU! This current coronavirus situation has
been tough for all. No playgrounds, no playdates, no PE, no sport...... lots of screen time.....
lots of home schooling. The Family Movement YouTube channel will address these issues for families and also hopefully fill that gap in our children's lives at the moment, with physical activity sessions that families can enjoy together. We guarantee that these sessions will be enjoyed, (They are so much fun!)
because we w
ill share the practical activities that have been tried and tested in more than 15 years of family-based
physical activity research. We hope our videos inspire families to
connect through fun physical activities that
they can complete together. This is because our research has shown
when families are active together not only do they improve their activity
levels and fitness, but children's social and emotional
well-being also improves and so do the quality of relationships
within families. Our
videos will encourage
families to participate together, away from screens, and this provides a
pretty good alternative to all staring at a screen while you work out. Our weekly videos will focus on three key areas
that we know are so good for children and parents. Do you know the three key areas Bronte? Yeah What are they? Sounds pretty good to me. Each session includes rough and
tumble play, without question THE most favorite fun
physical activity ever. Rough and tumble play has quite a fascina
ting scientific basis not only is it a fantastic workout,
but changes in the brain occur in children that improves their ability to
control their emotions and improves their social skills. Sport skills or fundamental movement skills - catching, kicking, throwing, bouncing, striking. Given the lack of PE and sport at the moment, it is even more important for
children to develop and practice their sport skills. 3. Fitness! There are huge benefits physically and mentally to all family members from
doing both aerobic huff and puff and muscular strength based activities. Indeed, short bouts of more intense physical activity
is especially impactful and represents great bang for buck for our health. Our videos are designed as a one-stop shop,
spend a few minutes watching them and then complete in your own time,
for as little or as long as you like! Remember, sessions can be enjoyed by
everyone! Mums, dads, grandparents, sons, daughters,
from toddlers to teenagers! You can complete as a family
,
or one-on-one, you can complete outside or inside! Despite the coronavirus lockdown I've assembled one of the finest film crews
in the world! So families, if you're ready to get fit,
get active, improve your skills, and have fun as a family. Please subscribe and like below!
