[FRANK] This is Helder, at three days old. As you can see, he was born a magician. [HELDER] This is me now,
still holding playing cards. Born in 1982, his first magic show was
at the age of four. In Kindergarten. Without the Internet, Helder had to
learn magic from other magicians. And books. Lots of books. A total of… Today he spends his time between
research, creation, and practice. And again. Research, Creation, Practice. Research, Creation, Practice. Research,
Creation, Practice. Resear
ch, Creation, Practice. It’s fun. Helder’s work combines
sleight-of-hand and storytelling, using personal experiences as a way
to explore the world we live in. Recognized by his peers, and critics
worldwide, he attributes his success to… Hard work, never giving up, and luck. And talent. He forgot that. My name is Frank Marshall, and I am the director
of Helder’s new show, "The Hope Theory." I was also the director of his old shows,
"Invisible Tango," "The Present" and "The Future." We work
together a lot. Now, we are back together at the Geffen with
"The Hope Theory" which recounts his experience as an immigrant from Porto, in Portugal, a
small country in Europe, on Planet Earth. More on that when you see the show. Until then, you can find him at his studio in
the middle of research, creation and practice. We look forward to having you
join us at the Geffen Playhouse.
