♪ Space Dragon and Kim ♪ ♪ Today is the greatest day of the year ♪ ♪ Everyone's full of cheer and root beer ♪ ♪ Well, everyone but little old me ♪ ♪ 'Cause I miss my home planet ♪ ♪ And I kinda gotta pee ♪ - Happy holla holla holidays, woo! - Hey Kim. Happy Booty Bon Battle Day. - Booty Bon Battle Day, what is that? Hey? Why so glum, monkey bum? - Well today is Booty Bon Battle Day, it's a holiday celebrated by my people. You see, every winter, the creatures on my home planet have a fun-loving f
ight to the finish. And if you survive, the legendary Super Sweet Swaggin' Dragon sneaks up your toilet while you're sleeping and delivers you a sweaty gym sock full of candy. - Well that's super weird. But um, you know what? It is not unlike Earth customs. You see, we humans celebrate all sorts of holidays at this time of year, some of us celebrate Christmas, some of us celebrate Hanukkah, but they all have one thing in common, and that is sugary treats. - What? You celebrate with candy, too? I
love candy so much, I could talk about it all day! Oh but wait, candy has nothing to do with science, so we can't talk about it on our science show. - Well, you might be surprised. I'm about to roundhouse kick you in the mind with science, as we learn about-- - [Narrator] The science of candy! - Um, hey. Take this! - Whoa. A ninja bow staff? - Kiai! - Oh. - Kapow! - Oh. - Kablammy. - Oh. - Guess what? - What? - Kablammy. Hey Kim, guess what else? - What? - Kiai! Oh and P.S. have you heard the n
ews? I said said kiai! - Actually, that bow staff is what we Earthlings use to make candy, see most candy is made with sugar, and most sugar comes from a plant called sugar cane, like these, yes, these sugar-filled bamboo-like shoots are a type of grass that can grow up to 20 feet tall! And are native to tropical places like south Asia and Melanesia. - And sugar also comes from sugar beets. - Wow, so sugar comes from plants? So I guess when you think about it, if you eat a bowlful of candy, you'
re basically eating a salad! (laughs) - Absolutely not! But, speaking of bowls, why don't we smash this glass candy bowl over Svenski the Science Dummy's head? - What, no, I don't wanna hurt him, he looks too adorbs in those goggles. (crowd coos) - Here we go. - [Announcer] Pause. - Don't try this at home friends. (whooshes) (mouse clicks) - Svenki run for your life. (bowl shatters) Oh! That was amazing, Sven are you okay? - Oh, he's cool. So that bowl was actually made of candy, not glass. So i
n old movies, they used to mix sugar, water, corn syrup and cream of tartar to make these easy-to-smash glass dishes and windows. That way the actors in action movies wouldn't have to, you know, smash through the real glass and hurt themselves. You can even eat it! Let's just. Actually, don't, don't eat it, it doesn't taste good. (beep) - This is so fun talkin' about candy, you know, it's really making me start to miss my home a lot less. What other fun things can you do with candy? - Well, are
you ready to make a mess? (hard rock music) - Obviously. - Okay, well watch. And observe as I create a geyser made with diet pop and these mint candies. You might wanna stand back. - Yeah, shouldn't get my scales dirty. Doing some tail modeling tonight. - [Announcer] Demonstration time! - More like fizz-ics! - Terrible pun! - So uh, so how does that work? - Oh! (clears throat) Well. These candies have a ton of tiny little dents on them, perfect for making a bunch of air bubbles. Now when these air bubbles form on the candy, the carbon dioxide gas in the pop, you know, the stuff that makes it fizzy, is all like, whoa, I'm free from the wet pop, I can go and chill in that bubble of air instead and be a gas instead of a liquid. And then, all the gas bubbles rush out at once into t

(gasps) That reminds me, Kim, I got you a present! - Oh, Space Dragon! - It's a painting I did of a little someone who's very special to me. They make me laugh, they're super nice and smart, and they're sitting at this table, right now. (paper crinkles) - You are so sweet! (record scratches) You painted a picture of yourself? - Aren't I like, so sweet? (chipper music)
