Where are you coming from? I am paying for the visa, why am I supposed to pay every single person? You're coming in my country... They have driven me crazy as someone or the other come around and I have to threaten them to go away. I have got the stamp & I'm leaving the country so why are they making me go rounds & I've to enter next country. Border closes at 6! Let's hurry! I've got the passport & wearing the bag too. It's 5 minutes to 6 o'clock and they troubled me at the border. I'll tell you
. I got very annoyed. Where is the car? Today, I'm crossing the border & entering Liberia - another country of West Africa. Let's go! It's too sunny! Let's go to the taxi stand & take taxi for the border. We'll see from border later on. Let's go from here first. He's saying the car will go to Monrovia from here. He's charging $20 or โ‚น1700 for one seat. He said, they won't leave until the seats get full. The car isn't getting full so the driver whose car is standing next to us is also helping so
that the car gets full & leave and then his number can come. Let us go now. We're leaving after so much struggle. People have gathered around the cars selling things, asking money, etc. They don't let people leave without fighting. Till they have a fight... This is the last area where you'll find water, currency exchange, sim-card sellers, etc. like we saw at borders of Africa. It's 5:30 pm now & I think the driver wants some thrill in life. Till the time clock hits 6 pm he won't enter the check
post of Liberia. We'll clear the immigration here and Liberia's border closes at 6 pm. Don't know what he wants. They stop the car where they want. That's the border finally. We'll exit Sierra Leone here. I think immigration office is here at the roadside. Don't know... They're checking the car here. Yes, its something like that. There're soldiers too. Let's go! I was staying with them in Freetown. Your occupation? I have property in India so I've real estate business and now I'm just traveling.
So, you are a businessman? Yeah, in India. Oh, back in India. - back in India! There's 5 minutes to 6 o'clock. They troubled me so much at the border. I'll tell you. I got so troubled. Where is the car? With him? How much? 10000 okay? No, how much dollar? I'll give you 10. No, Liberia! Yeah! They asked me to show yellow fever vaccine, but I said why as I'm leaving and not entering the country. I fought with them for a while. I told them it's in the car & can show in the phone too but he wanted
to get money. They tried best to get money but I didn't give. Don't know where the driver went. How is it finished? Come on! Okay, let's go! The car is here & I've to get it stamped. Here is the border. There's Liberia upon crossing it. They kept my passport and asked for money or they won't let go. Border was about to close in 2 minutes so I had to give them 10,000 after a lot of argument. See, here's the river. We've entered Liberia officially. I'll quickly go and get the stamp and they'll com
e in the car. I'm going back to Sierra Leone from border as my visa printout is in the car. The taxi driver is stupid don't know where he went. We're finding the car now. I'll pick the bag and go back again. It's already time. Let's go quickly. I've the passport and bag. Let's quickly go to immigration office. We've to go there. They first stopped me at right-side checkpoint and I didn't have to pay money. Now we've to go inside, to get the stamp. They have so many boards for stop corruption, et
c but they demand money. This is for you and now can you exchange? Can you exchange this to Liberian currency? Liberian dollars? 60,000! - only this you have? I have just this, yeah! Thank you bro! How much is this? 400 & can you give me 80 more? Thank you brother. And immigration is there? - yeah, yeah Okay! I got done with immigration. I already told... the border is about to close and asked him to workaround. He told main immigration officer here I won't name him in the video I asked for the
chief's room. Everyone started enquiring but I told them to tell him Paramvir from India is here. I went to the chief's room where he was sitting in AC, watching LCD TV, and was wearing gold chains and rings. He was having fun. His room was inside. He asked to stamp the passport. Liberia's officer stamped instantly without any money and asked me to go. Where is the car driver? He said he'll be here. I've entered Liberia but my driver is in Sierra Leone. He's really stupid, as the border is close
d. What is he doing there! I can see him. I think he's there. There're broken cars here. The condition of the border is bad. They have driven me crazy. Someone or the other keeps coming around. I have to shout and send them away. Anybody comes around. Someone asked me to stop on the road but why should I or what is the reason. Then I came and stood outside the car and he asked me to sit in the car. I told him, I won't sit with his permission. I will sit if I want to. Who is he to order. Anyone c
omes and tries to open the door. I tell them to stay away. They are driving me crazy honestly. My friend! What? You should see how you're behaving. You're in Liberia! If I am in your country, I'm not supposed to pay you then. For no reason! You don't owe me anything and I don't owe you anything. I get it, I am in your country I am paying for the visa. I am not here for free. I am paying for the visa. Yeah! I'm paying for the visa why am I supposed to pay every single person. When we come to... f
rom where? - I come from India What? Safa... my name is Safa. You need what? I don't know you. Run away or I'll tell you. Run away! I pay you what? Why do I pay you? Why do I pay you? You came to my country. I'm in your country, so I'm paying for the visa. I'm paying for the visa, your country allowed me to be here. We going to... Your country allowed me to be here. So, when I go to your country... I can't pay every single person. I'm not an ATM. I'm not a walking ATM. When I go to your country.
.. You're always welcome. Please give me some money. This is the condition here. He kept asking to give something and he was just one out of the many I sent away. It's 6:15 and the flag was brought down at 6pm. This ceremony is done at 6 pm in most countries. So, the flag is brought down during sunset and the border is closed too. When I got the stamp at the border very next minute, this ceremony happened so if I got a minute late I could've not crossed the border and would've spent night here.
I could've faced similar to Honduras or Nicaragua. When I got frustrated I sought help from someone or from the immigration officer. Like I said, he was sitting in the AC and he helped me with everything in under a minute. If I had not sought help and even if I was paying them money I don't think I could've been through and don't know how much I had to pay. People at the Sierra Leone border knew I am getting late yet they kept my passport. Drew Binsky visited once, if you've seen his video so he
was troubled a lot at the border. People asked for bribe from him and troubled him a lot. So, he uploaded a video on YouTube and it got viral that the officers were removed from job. As you saw... they'll understand if I say in English they've posters on walls saying bribing is bad, etc. But, they're asking for it everywhere. Another checkpoint. So the first officer was nice. He asked what I do, where I'm from, where I was staying and I told them everything. He entered my details & stamped the
passport. I got the stamp but there were so many exit offices at Sierra Leone and they sent me from one to the other. Even when a video is made on the corruption that happens here I was expecting things to be better. But apart from the first officer I don't think anyone has improved. The first officer made me sit stamped and said to take care. It's when I was recording my own video. Now as soon as I came out they asked me to go from one room to another. I have got the stamp and I'm leaving the c
ountry. They've got nothing to do now but were still making me go rounds when I've to enter next country. Border closes at 6 pm. They did it on purpose to get money from me. So, they sent me to room for yellow fever vaccine. He asked to show yellow card and I said it's in my car. The car driver is also stupid as he went somewhere with the car. I told him the card is in the car so he shouted on me saying if I don't know it has to be shown. When he shouted on me, I did the same saying I am leaving
the country and they should've asked it on entry. I'm leaving the country, I have the card's photo in phone & can get the card from the car. It's not that the card is in China and I can't get it. I told him I can get it in a minute so why is he shouting on me. He said, it's common sense to keep card along but I said it's needed on entry to show I'm not having fever on entry. I asked if he'll keep me in hospital if I am sick. I asked if he'll take care of me. He then asked me to get the card fro
m car. I said sure but the car wasn't there. The car driver was stupid. Then it became chaotic as border was about to close so the policemen thought they'll get money while the bike driver said he'll help me get to the border and asked to sit behind him. All this happened for a while and then a man offered to talk to the officer thinking I'll give him money for it. He went & talked to the officer who was already ready to check my temperature. So, he checked my temperature & I showed my yellow ca
rd fever from phone yet he asked for money. He talked so badly with me so why should I give him money I would've exposed him. No worries as he helped me so I didn't say anything to him thinking I got done with everything. So, I came outside and a sweet man took me in his room who talked to me very politely, asked how I found the country and I told him it was nice but the border is bad. Everyone just demands money. He started laughing. Finally, he said, it's considered good to give gifts in Afric
a so I should give them one too. So, I was talking to him about the same & he demanded money too in the end. I somehow came out from there and it was 2-3 minutes to 6 pm. I sat down on the bike & hurried They kept my passport and asked for money. I recorded them sneakily. They were suspicious that I recorded something & stared at my phone. I quickly locked it and showed calendar. They said your time to leave the country is nearly over and demanded money or they won't let me go. I asked if he is
crazy as I have 3 weeks & showed my passport. I have visa validity of 3 more weeks and he's saying it's almost over. He started laughing and demanded money. I had no choice but to give them money. I gave them 20,000 ($1.02) & they weren't giving it back but I told them it's my last note & I've to give 10,000 (โ‚น42 or $0.51) to bike driver and requested to return remaining. I took back the 10,000 and gave it to the bike rider. Then I got Sierra Leonean Leone exchanged to Liberia Dollar. Their curr
ency is Liberia Dollar. $1 has almost 190 LRD and โ‚น1 has about 2.5 LRD. So, I had 600 Sierra Leonean Leone and I had to get 500 LRD ($2.59) but in hurry they gave me 460 Liberian dollar ($2.39) which is the local currency and I ran as I was short on time. I came in the car after getting stamp and then people gathered around that I felt so frustrated. This happens at every border crossing. You also see it's not a big deal for me I could've taken a flight here. I am crossing land borders as I want
to experience these. I want to see the real life conditions as airports are same mostly everywhere. Secondly, I don't want to see it for myself but I take risks to show to you all how the world is, how people are in Africa, situations and challenges that arise. I am doing it for you all. There's a lot of time, & I've to reach Monrovia. I hope I reach alive and it doesn't get too dark. It has to get dark. Roads of Sierra Leone were better as you can see. The roads had good strips & were broad. T
he roads of Liberia aren't that broad. There are no lights or any strips. There's lack of electricity here. I don't think we'll see lights enroute Monrovia once it gets dark. One thing is for sure no one goes to washroom as much as this driver does. No one feels as thirsty as he does. No one else's car gets as hot as this one. Amazing! I think he doesn't smoke if he did, I'm not sure how journey would have been. I just got a call of the immigration head officer. He did video call asking if I ent
ered safely and I said yes. All the people sitting in the car got shocked to see as he was sitting outside the office at the airport in his uniform. They thought why is he calling me. He asked if I entered safely and said welcome. So, all the chaos that happened before has been compensated by him. He made up for it by talking properly. He asked to tell him in case of any issues & welcomed me to the country. This is another city enroute & it is getting dark. We aren't too far now. I've to be care
ful with the phone here. Everyone said to use phone carefully in Liberia. Everyone was warning in Sierra Leone that they might snatch it. I think he needs to use the washroom again. Don't know where we stopped. A man is shouting on mic here to get a SIM card or money exchanged. I'll see if I can get Orange's sim card here. He said 350 for a sim card which is about $2 (โ‚น166). $2 for a SIM card & then 250 for a gb data which is $1.5. So, $4 total or โ‚น350 for 1 gb internet and sim card. I.... came
to the car as we're getting late. Roads in Liberia aren't that great. Those in Sierra Leone were smooth. These are broken and have many brakers or bumps. Will you hit us! Oh! It's so dusty that nothing is visible. How are they driving so fast! There are so many trucks behind. The roads of Liberia are dangerous. It's 8 pm. This is why I want to avoid traveling at night. Don't travel at night in Africa. Look at the condition of the road. Nothing is visible and the road is also broken. It's so dust
y. I was checking distance on Google Maps from here to Monrovia and it showed 10 miles. It's showing miles instead of kms. It was set automatically in my maps & changes as per country. You might think miles is used only in US. Liberia is influenced by US & is also called Mini America. It was an American colony & they calculate distance also in miles. Even their English sounds like American. Although the slaves that came from America formed the country but has a lot of American influence. He stop
ped the taxi... it's still 25 minutes. Distance is less but it's due to traffic. He stopped here and asked to get down saying we've reached. I'm thinking how I'll go ahead as its dark. It's 9 pm right now and Liberia isn't considered safe when it gets dark. He dropped us here saying we've reached. I'm not moving from here. He'll leave me here in dark but I won't let him go. I'll ask him to get me a taxi or to drop me, as I won't let him go. People are coming & staring at me from there. Brother d
rop me. I asked him to get me an auto as I won't go. He called an auto. A lady was also traveling in car with us. She & driver asked to not take out the phone as people might snatch it. He has kept one of my bag & I have my second bag. Everyone is telling me to not use phone here as someone will snatch it. How much for Sinkor? 1500? I called Waheguru Travels & asked them to send apartment's address as I'll come there & they can then drop me where they want. I've sat in the auto & I'll keep the
phone safely. It's 36 minutes away from here. It's just 7-8 kms but as there's traffic and roads are bad. So he asked for 1500 Liberian Dollar ($7.78) I made him talk to Anil from Waheguru Travels and then he said 1200 LD ($6.23). To convert 1200, divide it by 190. I'll keep the phone inside 1200 Liberian Dollar will be around โ‚น500. Yeah I' m being careful with my phone, don't worry. See even he asked to take care of the phone. I think robbery is common here. I haven't seen such bad roads in lif
e as I have seen in Guinea Bissau & Liberia. Both have worst roads according to me. I was checking Google Maps, & Monrovia is divided into streets like New York city. It had 8th street, 9th street, 10th street, 11th street. They're in sequence & run parallel. Not sure if there're avenues but I've seen streets on Maps. 13th street, yeah yeah just stop here. It's 1 am right now and there was so much confusion. I asked him to take me to the apartment of Waheguru travels and asked for the address f
rom them I came here even though I had to go to the hotel but since it was night and there was so much confusion I didn't want to take risk of going around and reaching late at night. I came here directly and they were waiting for me. So I sat with them, talked for 2-3 hours had food together. We all were happy to meet each other and now I'll sleep. You saw how challenging, chaotic and intense the journey was I hope you liked the video. Subscribe to my channel and like the video. Let's meet tomo
rrow as I have to do some work here. I'll tell you about Monrovia & Liberia I might apply for Ghana & Ivory coast visa from here. I hope you liked the video! Goodbye!
