abc5 going inside the numbers tonight on a key economic indicator the monthly jobs report yeah Beyond those job numbers experts say the report can also influence consumer confidence levels when people feel more secure about their own financial situation their spending tends to increase abc5 data analyst Garett Archer has the key takeaways from the report if there was one part of the economy that refuses to slow down it's the job market the labor department reporting the US added 303,000 job in M
arch that's an increase of 30,000 more than what was added in February the nation's unemployment rate ticked down a bit to 3.8% but has basically remained unchanged since last August and something we all like to see the average weekly wages are up uh nearing 12200 uh this initial jobs report which will be revised a few more time is right now tied with last May for the largest number of jobs uh added in just one month uh the monthly average for this year so far is about 230,000 and you can see we
have beaten that average for four consecutive months diving down a bit deeper to where these jobs are added what we find is that the job gains are mostly almost exclusively in what economists call steady state economy Industries these are jobs that consume few resources and are mostly focused on people so they are more prevalent in slow growth economies in the past year the country has shed jobs in non-durable Goods uh production it it and transportation of Warehouse as well as manufacturing jo
bs those that remain stagnant the one good uh Goods producing industry that has seen growth is construction but the sectors with the most growth Leisure and Hospitality government as well as private education and or Healthcare so moving to the industry level now the industries with the largest share of jobs added was performing arts and spectator sports and when you look at the rest of these they're all focused on either health or Recreation except right there at the top water transportation on
the other end the industry shedding the largest share of jobs include manufacturing jobs uh apparal manufacturing textile production as well as temp agency jobs and some retail with a look inside the numbers I'm Garrett Archer abc5 Arizona
