there's a lot of women really pushing working hard to make their dream come true I'm Fox 13 news reporter Darian debru at Westminster University where the women's basketball coach is making history grip on three grip on three 1 2 3 there's rarely a quiet moment at practice for the Westminster University women's basketball team we focus on All the Small Things getting all the small things right in the sparing moments there is an absence of screeching sneakers and team talk it's either a water bre
ak or a teaching opportunity for head coach assami Marita I always think teaching basketball is easy and helping them to grow as a person is harder so if I can help them to grow as a person I can help them to be a better basketball player players like Zakaria Robinson who says coach isami is the calm in the roller coaster that college basketball can be I think our coach is instilling like big factors as far as like just being dedicated committed and working hard um because it that's what it take
s in any sport any aspect of life is to be committed to it coach assami isn't just building the foundation for a successful basketball program she's also making history as the first japanese-born person to coach college basketball I just kind of started to play for fun and loved it so went to school play through college when she decided she wanted to become a coach she knew she had to come to the best basketball country in the world and later found to home as head coach at Westminster University
the value of the school has of diversity inclusions right and also academic success and just providing the overall experience for those student athletes to do well in life was very attractive to me as a trailblazing coach she's inspiring her players my coach being one like the first Japanese uh head coach just like it just helps me to keep going because I'm the first graduate I'm going to be the first graduate from my family to graduate college with a bachelor's degree and hoping to progress th
e movement of women coaches especially those from Japan if you love it you just have to push hard Walk Hard we shouldn't just give up just because it's hard you know it's going to be hard for everybody to make anything happen so you just have to do it at Westminster University Daran de Bru Fox 13 News Utah

@gaijinoni

I’m glad she’s expanding the Japanese history in Utah. We did have one of the best Japanese-American basketball players come out of the U of U 😊.
