Vin Stache

6 years ago

Hi everyone, I'm Loïc Geoffray from Wine'Stache. Yes, today we have a change of scenery because because I didn’t think about it when I launched l my show in the middle of August, but late November ... I’m freezing my ass off in my cellar. More especially I’ve decided to launch a new program and I am going to explain you its principle now. Since the first episode of Wine’Stache I explained to you from that I never found the wine tasting videos very exciting. I already told you that describing a g
ustatory sensation was like describing the smell of a perfume to someone who never smells it. It was very complicated, not to say impossible. In addition, I don’t think that telling you the story of one wine or one estate will be also very relevant. Even for the most prestigious Chateaux or estates, it often comes down to a story of marquises, monks or small families of winemakers. If I start to bother you with technical details like: "So what you have to know about this cuvee? It is a parcel se
lection’s cuvee located on a blue shale soil dating from the Precambrian and facing south. This is what will give us this minerality so noticeable at the palate.” You’re going to quit this video. So this isn’t the kind of videos that I intend to do. If you want to learn more about a special wine, I take this opportunity to tell you about my Instagram account named with the funny word game " vinstachegram" where I share some of my wine tastings (only in French for the moment). If you are ready to
invest 3 minutes of your timelife, you will discover names of domains, appellations or even some tasting notions. HOWEVER, I think there are some wines, which are so atypical and nonconformist in the world of wine that they deserve we talk about them. This may be for several reasons like their marketing positioning, their packaging, their color, their winemaking or whatever. So I decided to present you a new program with the name of UWO for Unidentified Wine Object (O.VI.N.I in French) and not
Ovidie (a French pornstar). The difference is very simple, one is made to drink this other one to be… The wine that will have the honor to open the ball is ... A La Natural – Action Bronson’s wine. To explain to you why “A la natural”, Action Bronson’s wine is a UWO. First, for those who don’t know who he is. We have to answer: Who is Action Bronson? Action Bronson born Ariyan Arslani is an American rapper of Albanian descent and native of Flushing in the Queens district. Today we may know him
as a rapper but that was nothing but an evidence because his first love was food. Before to succeed in rap, he integrated and will even be graduated from the culinary program of the Institute Art of New York. Then, he will continue to work as a chief throughout the big apple, until an accident in the kitchen breaks him a leg. Taking advantage of a period of unemployment, he began writing and improving his rap flow on his hospital bed. Rapper highly productive, he has released since 2011 three s
olo albums and a heck of mixtapes. I personally love him when he’s on a featuring like with A$AP Rocky's track 1 train, where, although accompanied by a load of the best rappers from the last 5 years, I find he stands out thanks to his passion, his energy, and his hard-hitting flow. Classified as Indie rapper, he will also be known via the series of programs F**k! That's Delicious produced by the Vice group. A program where he shares his love for food and devours a lot of stuff like a duck, lamb
necklace, truffle, baklava, Italian, Albanian, Asian or French food. As my grandmother used to say “He will eat you out of house and home”. When we talk about food, wine is never far away. In 2017, he embarks on this little crazy project which is the cuvee A La Natural, a wine signed with the winemaker from Auvergne Patrick Bouju and the Parisian wine merchant Clovis Ochin. So why do I think this wine is an UWO? -Do you remember Wine'Stache Episode 2? In this one, I explained to you that there
were two models, two approaches of wine tasting. An Anglo-Saxon model based on the grape variety (often single-varietal wines) and a French one based on the appellation. Well here, neither one nor the other. If we’re beginning with the French approach “A La Natural” is a wine without geographical indication, classified as “Vin de France/Wine from France”. To make it simple and I insist on it because we will talk about it during the next canonical episode of Wine'Stache, Yeah I like to use compli
cated words. -Which should be dedicated to the appellation. Wines without Geographical Indication in the old denomination, the one before the regulation of the European Commission of July 14th, 2009. We used to call them “Vin de Table/Table wine” and “Vin de Pays/Country wine”. When French people heard “Vin de table” or “Vin de Pays”, they certainly imagine a wine sold at the supermarket at a very poor price. They are partly right. Typically a JP Chenet which is a very widespread wine in retail
stores is a “Vin de Pays”. Meanwhile what you may not know is that some very good producers have intentionally made the choice to sell their wines without Geographical Indication under the “Vin de France” label. -Why? Well because some producers voluntarily decide to get rid of the specifications of their appellation, to decide the winegrowing practices they wanted on their estate. Thus we can end up with famous and expensive wines although sold under the “Vin de France” label. The two best-know
n examples are certainly the “Domaine de la Grange des Pères” and the “Mas de Daumas Gassac” which were sold before the 2009 regulations under the name “Vin de Pays de l'Hérault” Meanwhile they are both considered as two of most famous estates in the wine region of Languedoc. You will have understood with these two last minutes a little bit boring to follow, I admit it. Where we sailed between Wines Without Geographical Indication, “Vin de Table”, “Vin de Pays” and “Vin de France”. The French co
nsumer who has the habit of reading appellation names like “Côtes du Rhône” or “Corbières”, he will find himself a bit confused in front of A La Natural’s label. For the Anglo-Saxon consumer who used to drink single-varietal wines, well that's nearly the same sh**. A la Natural is a wine blend, composed of 3 grape varieties. Syrah which is historically the king of the Northern Rhone Valley, the Pinot Noir which rules the Burgundy and finally the Gamay which is the dominant grape of Beaujolais as
you already know it because you have already watched the 6th episode of Wine'Stache dedicated to the Beaujolais Nouveau. Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you, it is made in the heart of the vineyard of Auvergne which is considered as a sub-vineyard of the Loire Valley vineyard. In terms of marketing positioning we are on a quite complicated wine, because to recap, it's a wine without a vintage on the label, without a geographical indication, a blend wine of grape varieties from different French vineya
rds and produced in a confidential vineyard. Oh yeah, I also forgot to tell you, it's a "natural" wine. So you will ask me? What is a natural wine? The more time is running the more I think I'll need at least one episode of Wine'Stache to deal with natural wine. It's not between two drinks that I'll have time to talk about it. To make it simple, natural wine is a philosophical choice of the winemaker aiming to find the natural expression of the terroir. It is theoretically from organic or biodyn
amic farming grapes and worked without inputs, by that I mean without weedkillers, pesticides, etc. Although I could make a lot of criticism about natural wine, I have to salute Action Bronson’s “cojones” for choosing such a wine. Even if natural wines are gradually gaining in notoriety, it is still a niche market. A market which targets Parisian hipsters who want to find the true values of the land they have never known. Yeah I know it’s an exaggeration and that’s totally caricatural. In the en
d, I find that by associating his name and his reputation to a natural wine with a complex marketing positioning. I think that Action Bronson has some guts. That’s why I consider it as an UWO. A rapper who decides to associate himself with a brand of Cognac or Champagne, it has nothing new. Except that Champagnes, Cognacs, famous Bordeaux wines or even the rosés wines are products which are sold without efforts because they are highly searched on the American market. Every year, Business France,
which is roughly the International Chamber of Commerce of France, releases a report titled “where to export for the agri-food industry”. As you can see it in the 2017 report, the great Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagnes, and Rosé wines are doing very well and although organic, biodynamic and natural wines are indicated in buoyant segments, in reality, they are mostly well established in secondary markets such as those in the Nordic countries. So selling a nature “Vin de France” produced in Auvergne
, it seems to me to be the hardest challenge than to sell Cristal or Château Cheval Blanc to Yankees. Except that Action Bronson, all that, he doesn’t give a f***! It is because he seems to be simply a sincere and true lover of French gastronomy and of our wines. To be convincing of that, you just have to see him sitting at a table of the 20th district (of Paris) or to see him wandering in our Capital in search for the best addresses of the Parisian’s bistronomy. Look at him! Doesn’t he look lik
e an 8 years old kid? Yes, an 8 years old kid who smokes too much weed but still a kid as he looks happy with his gourmet escapade. As a conclusion, I find that this UWO was done for good reasons. Of course, any product or service is sold for the obvious purpose that the French language sums up wonderfully with the expression "Everyone has to eat", but just as it think to me that a movie from Xavier Dolan such as "Juste la Fin du Monde” has been produced with much more noble intentions than an A
merican Pie Presents: The Naked Mile. Yeah, yeah, it really exists. I think that “A La Natural” was produced for much more noble intentions than 95% of the alcoholic drinks on which the rappers come to associates their faces. It is an author's wine, carried by an indie rapper who wanted to make pleasure himself by producing the kind of wine he loves but especially, who wanted to share his tastes in wine. What is more beautiful in wine than to make discover to the others what we’ve loved? Nothing
. What a pity that the French specialized wine media didn’t echo this initiative that I find absolutely brilliant and nonconformist. What’s the price? -22€ -Wow, that’s not really affordable. Yes, the price is pretty expensive but first, good natural wines from good winemakers and Patrick Bouju is one of them, are often expensive. Second, the wine is sold exclusively on a website which I suppose must take a commercial margin. Is it good? -It's pretty atypical. On the negative side, I found at th
e first nose that it smelled brett and that it was fizzy. You’re maybe not familiar with the notion of brett but it comes from Brettanomyces which is a genus of yeast which unfortunately can often be found when tasting natural wines. Brettanomyces is going to smell like stable, sweat and fox. It often comes with the fact that the winegrower has refused to add free Sulfur dioxide which is one of the norms for natural wines and that’s how we can have this kind of defect. Instead, he’s going to add
Carbon dioxide and that’s how we can have fizzy and bubbly wine. If you let the wine aerate and I advise you to put it in a carafe for at least 3 hours. This fizzy side will disappear and then the wine reveals itself! The wine's robe is a limpid violet. Nose: Mostly red fruits like red currant but also underwood and pepper (which reminds me its gamay DNA). Palate: Syrah brings structure and Pinot noir acidity. Acidulous red fruits like red cherry but also spices like pepper and with herbaceous
nuances. Beautiful final length. As a conclusion, I prefer to warn the beginners it’s the kind of wine which can disconcert you but it’s a very interesting wine to taste, at least to discover natural wine and to open up to new horizons of wine. If Action Bronson decided to produce ”A La Natural” it’s because he fell in love with natural wines. Maybe it will be the same thing for you! Thank you so much for watching this video! Bravo !

@catpaw0

@tomyjusten3867

@ad26MV

@Geell0

@mathilde44

@remicervoni4183

@digitalspleen

Encore merci

@vicentemickael4500

@user-yl9hw4po8p

@geraudl.2253

@pierrickbellat4412

Salut gars.

@sebastiencruble5781

@jeromeem.2603

J'aime ton téléphone. Ca me rappelle mon enfance.

@moonti6820

@Misterfaxel83

@f.l1382

@graemevanelden8615

@PochetteWatch

@arnaud1381
