But before that
I invite you all to subscribe, like, follow and comment on my channel, also press the notification bell, so you can be updated on the new episodes that I will release, come on, fellow travelers, join me in my story. During the Spanish era, present-day Valenzuela, Obando and Novaliches were once part of Bulacan. The areas now covered by Valenzuela included the four haciendas Malinta, Tala, Piedad, and Maysilo, small political settlements and a Spanish garrison. These areas were known as Polo. The
region is bounded by the Tullahan River on the south and streams of branching Río Grande de Pampanga on some areas. When Manila became an archdiocese in 1595, the friars decided to separate sitio Polo from the town of meycauayan on November 7, 1621, on the feast day of the new patron Saint Didacus of Alcala, or more known as San Diego de Alcala. And the construction of the church was started in 1627 and finished in 1632. San Diego de Alcala Church is a Roman Catholic church. The original church
is the oldest church in the city. Destroyed during World War II, its surviving bell tower is the oldest in the city. The main structure was destroyed by bombs during the Japanese occupation in the Philippines during World War II. The bell tower and entrance are the only parts of the four-century-old edifice which remains today. It is said that the residents here were forced to work to complete the church after gain independence in 1623 from Catangalan. In 1869, Filipino physician and patriot Pí
o Valenzuela was born in Polo. He became one of the main leader of the Katipunan, which he joined in 1892 at the age of 23. And in recognition of his heroically in 1963 the town of Polo was named Valenzuela in his honor, at the same time his original residence was turned into a museum containing historical and cultural landmarks of the city. The Museum features collections of artifacts that illustrate the city's past and ongoing development, erving it is also a repository of the city's rich heri
tage and a beacon of light to people and visitors. The Stone Arch was built by the Americans in 1910 to serve as a border between the provinces of Bulacan which includes Valenzuela or Polo and Rizal which was once part of Malabon. The arch is located along the M.H. del Pilar Street, which used to be the main gateway to North Luzon before the construction of MacArthur Highway and North Luzon Expressway. After Malabon separated from Rizal and Valenzuela from Bulacan to become part of Metropolitan
Manila in 1975, the arc is now marked as the boundary between two towns and their respective barangays Barangay Santulan in Malabon and Barangay Arkong Bato in Valenzuela. The Harry C. Egbert cannon is actually located in one of the Valenzuela municipal complexes in Malinta. It serves as a monument and memorial for Colonel Harry Clay Egbert, a commanding officer of the 22nd Infantry United States regiment wounded in 1899 during the Philippine–American War. It is very strange that such a historic
al event is never mentioned in the history of the Philippines but on the other hand it is clearly written as one of America's historical landmarks. Restored and raised by the local government on April 23, 2013 to show other people that Valenzuela's ancestors had a part and contribution in the history of the Philippine-American war. Dubbed Valenzuela City's "best-kept secret," Tagalag Fishing Village is located along a 1.3-kilometer boardwalk in Barangay Tagalag. Various activities are offered in
one of the newest attractions in the city such as recreational fishing, line fishing tutorial, bird watching, boating, photowalk, and sunset watching Valenzuela City People's Park is an urban park located on a 1.3-hectare lot next to the city hall in barangay Karuhatan. There is an electronically controlled dancing fountain at the park's entrance, an aero circle for exercise groups, gardens, children's playgrounds, zoological spaces where animals are exhibited to the public, and a 400-seater am
phitheater that can -hosts a wide range of activities and food stall in the park. The park is pet-friendly, bike-friendly, and accessible to people with disabilities. One of the many initiatives of the city government to create greener spaces, the Polo Mini Park is inaugurated on January 21, 2020 six months after the announcement of the rehabilitation of the historic old square of Polo. The park is decorated with hundreds of years old luscious trees, fountains, memorial markers commemorating war
veterans and statues of Pío Valenzuela and José Rizal. The park suggests not only a place for relaxation but also marks the historical identity of the City. We only saw a few places my fellow travelers, there are many more hidden stories we have yet to discover in this city, but for now that's all we've got. I hope you learned something from our short story my fellow travelers, thank you verymuch, until next time.
