Good Mythical Morning

3 months ago

- We are making science happen without the assistance of instructions. - Let's talk about that ((Intro Music)) - Good Mythical Morning. - People see the stuff that we do on the internet and they joke when they realize that we have engineering degrees. But we are smart. - So smart. Just because you pee chocolate into your best friend's mouth from time to time doesn't mean your brain isn't braining. - We are so smart. And today we're going to prove it because we're diving back into some mind bendi
ng science experiments that people apparently need instructions to do. - But not us. Because we're so smart. - We are so smart. - It's time for Science Without Guidance Featuring the Beaker Boys. ((Music)) - [Stevie] Okay, Beaker Boys, you have 10 minutes to figure out a scientific result with the items in front of you. You've got 25 points at your disposal and a few lifelines if you need some help. They are a message from science Mikayla about the scientific principle for one point. - Sneaky. -
[Stevie] I will reveal a decoy item every round has two, for two points. Or I can vaguely tell you what the result is that you're trying to achieve for three points I'm going to start your 10 minutes, now. - We got some twine. - Twine. - We have a fire maker, we have a "ahhh". Well, now I've done that with it. I really raked something off of it. Yeah, burn that off. What was that, dude? - It was just spit that I have on my tongue. I brush my tongue every morning. It wasn't anything weird. - We
have an egg. This egg almost looks fake. - Let me hear it. - And we have color sparklers. Totally legal. - Are we going to make some kind of wick? - I'm going to get rid of that. I think what you should do is. - I think the sparklers might be for encouragement. - Light one. - So as I think about things. Now, if I look. - You can do it, Rhett. You can do it, Rhett. - You're doing a great job. - You burnt me, man. Look. - You are doing the best job. Come sit down and do a good job. - You're gonn
a set the alarms off with that. - Oh, oh, oh. - Yeah, yeah. ((Laughing)) We're like mimes. Where's the freaking water? Okay. Do we need Science Mikayla or, do you want to try something? Maybe bring. - No. Let's get a principle. I think, no, this is fine. It's fine. - Well, it's smoking. - No, just suck on it. - It was fine. - Let's hear from Science Mikayla. We don't need to know what the decoys are. - Are you going to burn the studio down like. - No. It's like a microphone now. - Oh, okay. Unex
pected oxygenation is the key to ignition. One more time. - Unexpected oxygenation is the key to ignition. So we're going to. - We have to light these sparklers. - Using unexpected oxygenation. - No, I think - It's coming together. - What if the oxygen comes from the egg? - What if the oxygen goes - [Both] through the egg? - Do you think we can do that? - Yes, yes, yes. If you want this, and you give me this. - I think I've taken all of the sparkler juice off of it. Yeah, I'm completely, okay. W
e need another egg because Link Linked it. - Should we have? - Now we light the sparkler and it goes through the egg. - Oh, yeah, that's a good idea. But there's a lot of wet yolk on that. You know, as soon as it starts. - And then, look, just hold it because it will be okay. - You think it'll explode? - You don't. We, the prediction is that, you want me to pull it? - No, no, no, no. Don't touch it. It's coming. It's coming, just wait. - Wait for it. - Just wait. - Wait. - Just wait. - So the f
ire is going to come out the other side? - Yeah, if you wait. - No, that doesn't work. All right, Stevie, tell us something that we don't need. - [Stevie] You pulling the end of that sparkler like you did. - What does that mean? - Did I pull it at the wrong time? - [Stevie] Yeah. You're so clums. - Try it again. Try it again. - Hold on, but what did he do? - She's saying it was my fault. - [Stevie] Yeah, somehow you, you pulled it right at the point it. - And start with the metal. Yeah. And the
re you go, we've got this dude, We've got this. Unexpected oxygenation. - Oh, it's hot. - [Link] It's so hot. - [Rhett] Oh. Oh, it's cooking. ((Screams of Excitement)) - Yes, yes. - I don't know why I'm holding it. - [Link] What's happening? - [Rhett] It's hot, it's smoking. Oh, the egg is really hot. The egg is getting very. Oh, it's so hot, I can barely. Can you hold it? The egg is so hot. Oh, the egg is so hot. It came through. - Yes. ((Applause)) Yes. I was right. I was right. So what is the
unexpected oxygenation? I don't. - [Stevie] So, sparklers are typically covered in a chemical called potassium chloride, which when burned creates potassium chloride in oxygen. The creation of oxygen allows the fire to have a continuous ignition source to latch onto even inside of a viscous egg, because it goes out the other side. ((Laughing)) - And it cook the freaking inside of the egg. It really got hot. - [Stevie] And this is actually an experiment that was seemingly born out of boredom by
TikTok user D.J. Waffle. - D.J. Waffle in the house. - [Link] Oh, D.J. Waffle. - [Rhett] D.J. Waffle looks just like Caitlin. - [Link] Yeah. You know, D.J. Waffle's always smug with the science experiments. - [Rhett] D.J. Waffle makes it look pretty effortless. - [Link] D.J. Waffle. - [Rhett] Whoa. - [Link] Doing a little speed ramp. - [Rhett] D.J. Waffle, slow down. - [Link] Look at that. Yeah. D.J. Waffle taunting us. - D.J. Waffle doesn't film in vertical. I love it. - [Stevie] That was Caitl
in. - Oh. Caitlin, okay. ((Music)) - {Stevie] Your lifelines are the same, and your time starts now. - Bouncy ball. - Bouncy ball. - T.P. - T.P. - Mint. - Mint. - Bowl. Water and dropper. What's in the dropper? - [Stevie] Ink. - Ink. - Ink. And we have gloves. - Because ink stains. - So why don't? - Don't you feel like you would put water and ink in there and it would go up the toilet paper? - I feel like I have to sneeze, honestly. - But that doesn't sound like something. Bless you. ((Sneeze
)) Extra time, please. ((Laughing)) - No, I got this right here. I should've used it. - So what I just described, seems boring. Ink and water going up toilet paper. Let's do it anyway because it's fun to watch. - But then do it. Even if you did it in a, have you seen the people who - I've seen the people. Under the stairs. - A puddle, and then they'll take ink and they'll make art on the puddle and then they'll lay down a canvas. - I think you might be onto something. - And they'll pick it up an
d it'll, like, say, R L was here or just Deez Nuts. - Oh, my gosh, you're right. Look, look, look, look, look what it does. We are going to make art. - That's enough. That's enough. - Okay, hold on, hold on. - And then I've seen them. - Gently, gently, gently, gently. And we're making polka dots. - Then we're doing that. Look at that. - We made a Dalmatian skin. - You wipe your butt with it. Do you? Do you really want us to do that, Stevie? - I'll do it. I'll wipe my butt with it. Okay. Is that
it? - That's not it. - [Stevie] No. - Do you want Science Mikayla? - Let's go Mikayla again. She helped us out the first time. Come on. Urgency. We're being timed. - I'm coming, I'm coming, I'm coming, I'm coming. Okay. A shift in surface tension will move you forward. - A shift in surface tension will move. - You forward. - I bet this could float. And a shift in surface tension. - [Rhett] A shift. In surface tension will move you forward. - A shift in surface. - We're propelling something. So.
- I bet you we don't need this, or this, but these are cool. - Hold on. Let's get a decoy. Decoys are cheap. - Decoys are cheap. Almost as cheap as Mikayla. - Decoy. - [Stevie] You do not need the toilet paper. - Right. - I knew it. - Yep. So we know we need water in the bowl for surface tension. - But surface tension. Will, we need to take it all the way to the top of the bowl? - But, Link, here's the thing. Lately, I've really been sensing the surface tension between you and me. Everybody's b
een talking about it on Reddit every single week. For the past seven years? - Yeah, what about beneath the surface? - But I'm really feeling some surface tension, and we need to move it. - We're going to have to get the desire. - I mean, we're propelling this, I think. - We've got to move a leaf, man. - [Link] If you put a bunch of ink behind it, the ink does splay out. - It splays. - [Link] We don't have enough water to fill up the whole bowl. - Oh, we can get more water. There's more water wh
ere that water comes from. Behind it? Go, leaf. - Go, leaf. When you put a bunch of ink, it goes out. - I'm changing. I'm the water writer. - What else do we not need? - What does he do? He writes on water. - [Stevie] You went the other decoy? - Yeah. - [Stevie] You do not need the bouncy ball. - We were right. - So we need the ink. I can make money, like out of the Washington Mall. - What is the Washington Mall? - Like at the lake. The long lake. - This isn't working. - And I ink the water and
I get paid for it. - So the fact that, what if we put ink all, oh, on top of the. - We've got to ink the leaf. Ink, put a bunch of ink on top of the leaf. - It'll propel itself. - [Link] The ink will. - [Rhett] Lucas has more leaves. - I think this one will hold more ink. Let's do this one, all right. So I'm going to put it right here. It's not floating. Maybe this one will float more? Yes. - Okay. Yeah. - And then you've got to get it. You've got to get it to go off, off the back. Just off the
back. - Oh, crap, Link. - Keep going. - [Rhett] You're totally right. - Get rid of this. Oh, shoot. ((Applause)) We did it. Ink this up. - And check out this one. We did it. - We can pollute the whole ocean with ink to move our ships around. - [Stevie] But you want to see Caitlin do it, right? - Yeah. ((Music)) - [Rhett] That's not Caitlin. That's a? D.J. Mixy Mix. What? - [Stevie] Waffle. - [Together] Waffle. ((Music)) - [Link] Oh, my goodness. - [Rhett] Caitlin did better than I did. - Why i
s she so smug about it? I don't understand. It's like she's rubbing it in our faces. We got it right. - It's really impressive. - [Stevie] It's a phenomenon called the Marangoni effect, and it occurs when there's a mass transfer between two liquids due to a change in surface tension. Ink has a lower surface tension than water. Therefore, once the two liquids interact with one another, the water will begin to pull in the area. With the lower surface tension. - And I don't want to create tension w
ith Caitlin. I just want to let you know that like I just thought it was ironic. There's not a smug indication at all in what she's doing. Wasn't that funny? - Yeah, I was laughing inside. - Below the surface tension? - I was laughing. Laughing inside. ((Music)) Hey, you're looking for some last minute Thanksgiving dishes, but you got no desire to actually cook? - Yes. - Well, the Sporked team has found frozen mashed potatoes and instant gravy that taste just as good as homemade. Check out their
Thanksgiving guide for fast and easy shortcuts to the best Thanksgiving meal ever with stuff that's available at your grocery store near you. Sporked.com Bring it in. - Here it is. - We've been killing it today, showing how smart we are. Go ahead and start the time, Stevie. We don't care. You know what we're going to do? Not use nary a lifeline. - We don't need no lifelines. We have milk. We have another glass which is. - Of non milk. - They gave us another glass. - Just known as a glass. - Thi
s tells me that we need. - One of them. - We need the glass. Why would they give us a second glass? - I don't know. They don't know how smart. - Oil, Alka-Seltzer, food coloring. And one of these. - You know what I do with those? - [Link] I don't know. - I put them in my eggs. You ever done that? You froth your eggs with those before you scramble. - That's got a lot of gusto. - There's too much milk in there. Yeah, right. - No, there's not. - Too much milk. So I think what we'll do here Just by
way of experiment, put a little in there. You mix a little oil with it. Thank you. - Oil and milk. What happens? They make "oilk". - And then what if we froth it? - Wait, wait, wait. - Maybe let me start the frothing, and then you'll add that. - [Rhett] So we want to just mix it up? Now pull it out, let go. And now we wait. - That right there, now we wait. - We spend the rest of our time waiting. - Right. Because we have plenty of time. - Did we use everything? Except the Alka-Seltzer. - We did
n't use the Alka-Seltzer. - [Rhett] Throw that in there. - We're going to throw that in there and. - Now we know two of these are decoys. We've used all things, though. - We can use decoys. You can use decoys, there's no rule against it. - [Link] There's no real indication that the Alka-Seltzer is Alka-Seltzering. It's too red in there. - You know what? I think we're going to make you know that thing that Mark Rober sometimes does? - I don't watch his videos because they make me feel stupid and
I'm smart. - Right. Exactly. He does a, I think they call it elephant paste toothpaste or something. I think we're going to do that. So, how do we do that? - All right. So I think we need more stuff. So we have all types of glasses. Now, see, the type of glass apparently does not matter. - It doesn't matter. - I bet you we didn't need a glass at all. I think, what would happen if we just mix. - Milk and oil? - Oil and, we've already done that. - Oil and water? - No. Oil and water do remain sep
arate. And I think if you color. - Color one. - If you color the oil. - Oh, maybe the - With the food color. - Color the oil with the food coloring, more oil. - [Link] Then add the We got to froth this. - [Rhett] It really feels like we need the frother now, but we've already gotten rid of it. But there it is. - Okay, so now, we've made red oil. - Okay, now let go. - [Link] We made red oil. - [Rhett] Water. And what's going to happen is it's going to stay separated, but the food coloring is goin
g to go into both and it's going to be a cool science. - You know, I would like to ask Stevie, what's the point of all this? - Stevie, we're asking you, what is the point of all this? And what we mean is life. Not anything to do with this experiment. What is the point of us being here just as a species? Why do we exist? - [Stevie] Well, I think that you exist to bring people approximately 20 to 40 minutes of happiness every Monday through Friday. - That's my life's purpose. - [Stevie] I think so
. - I think it is to. Oil and water don't mix. But oil and food coloring and water do mix. - [Rhett] Right? Yeah. - Here's another glass. - Are we going to need a lifeline? - Oh, gosh. - [Rhett] Look at that. That's cool. That was cool. - [Stevie] 5 minutes remain. - If just put an Alka-Seltzer in oil. It doesn't do anything. - Okay, let's just get Mikayla to come back out and tell us something and then listen and act like we didn't hear her. It should only make, so it's like it didn't happen. I
t doesn't count. But I'm going to be listening. So I'm just going to keep acting like I'm doing things. And she's going to say something. - The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. Okay, the real one. All right, don't be dense. A little bit of carbonation can lead to some far out fun. - Okay. - Yeah. - Okay. - I don't like being ignored that much. - Okay. You know what I think? You know what I think and I have no reason to believe this. - That we probably need for no good reason? And the
n I think. - Because carbonation. - Right But if you put this in oil, it doesn't work. I think it's like milk, food coloring, and Alka-Seltzer. - Here's milk. Just normal milk. We don't need any of this anymore. - So I'm going to put the, I'm gonna put the Alka-Seltzer in first. - But it's doing a fizz already - [Link] Because there's a little bit of water. - [Rhett] And we need the food coloring because we need to be able to see it. - I'm going to make red milk. - Okay. That's one way to do it
. - Where are you going? - [Rhett] Far out fun. Far out fun. - [Link] How far out is the fun? Because we're sitting here waiting for it to arrive. - Here it comes. It's coming. It's going to come. Here it comes. Yeah, thump it a little bit. - [Stevie] Two and a half minutes remain. - Oh, God. We're gonna have to ask another question. We have so many points because we've been so smart. Let's get some decoy items. What's our decoy item? - [Stevie] You don't need the milk. - I don't think we need
the milk. If there was oil and then water on top of it. - Yeah. - And then we put the Alka-Seltzer on the water. It's going to do something above the oil we got to give this time to separate. - We don't have a lot of time. Time's not our friend right now. - [Link] Oh, see? The oil is on top. - [Rhett] Yeah, yeah. - Oh, the Alka-Seltzer is going to go below. - And make the water, it's going to make the water more dense. And it's going to switcharooni. - The thing that I don't. - Do we even need
oil in order to really show this? - You know, what I think we need? I think we need another glass because what we need to do is we got to. - We need a food coloring. - We've got to put the oil. We can't put this through the oil because then it gets oil on it. You think we can just put it down in there? - Yeah, it'll get to the bottom. But you got to do this, so you can see it all happen. Look at those little balls. That's cool. - [Link] Here we go - [Rhett] And watch. It's going to flip. It's go
ing to do a complete flip. It's gonna send. - [Link] Oh, oh, what is it doing to the oil? It's making science. - [Rhett] Oh, it looks like a lava lamp. ((Applause)) - [Link] So smart. So independent. In need of no help. - Look what we did, y'all. - [Stevie] Beaker Boys, that looks great. Let's see how Caitlin did it. - [Rhett] Probably better ((Music)) - [Link] Pour the water and then the oil. Same as us. - [Rhett] A tall glass would have been helpful. - [Link] Separated, a lot of oil. - [Rhett]
More, more, more. - [Link] We did it exactly right. - [Rhett] Lava lamp. - [Link] Bloop, bloop, bloop, bloop, bloop, bloop, bloop, bloop, bloop, bloop, bloop. - Yep. Still smug. - So smug. - I'm trying to go along with your joke now. - [Stevie] You guys. You have won a science fair volcano. Science fair volcano that you can play with in Good Mythical More. - Enjoy. So much fun. - They make them so little now. - It's so tiny. - We're gonna blow this thing up. - Oh, yeah, and it going to be dest
royed. Thanks for subscribing and clicking that bell. - You know what time it is. - So smart. I'm Holly, and this is Pepper. And we're in Trenton, New Jersey. I'm a third degree Mythical Society member - And it's time to spin the Wheel of Mythicality. - Oh, you're cute, Pepper. - I was a little nervous until Pepper was so slow. Clip the top link to watch us review experiments too dangerous for us to try in Good Mythical More. - And to find out where the Wheel is gonna land. - [Link] Sporked is

@Zandouc

"Link Linked it" What a good way to describe the entire GMM show

@anonymous6892

Only Link can burn Rhett, almost burn the studio down and mime extinguishing the fire yet be clutch with all experiments

@Sophie-and-Ken

After singing “we so smart” they almost set the studio on fire. 😂😂😂

@emilyduke4255

2 1/2 minutes in and Link has already done something dangerous. At least he's consistent

@murrd0g

The boys: “we are smart!” Link 30 seconds later: proceeds to place burning sparkler inside a spool of twine. 😂

@annakindelberger7176

A Try Guys and GMM collab where Rhett and Link try to cook without a recipe, and the Try Guys try science experiments without instructions would be epic!

@wsjustice

I don't have an engineering degree but I do have a chemistry degree. Rhett is crazy holding that egg in his fingers like that. You wacky engineers. DJ Waffle didn't hold the egg.

@mguidroz1

😂“We need another egg, cuz link ‘LINKED’ it”. 😂

@janellemiller8769

Link's little "Keep going" to make Rhett do what he wants him too 😭.

@Flyingcar100

Link is like the bad student on the lab safety videos we had to watch in school.

@randomguy-ip5is

Fire Marshal: How did the fire in the studio start? Stevie: well link had a sparkler! Fire marshal: that makes sense

@adamcraft3098

…again, I worry about Link, lol…the fact he’s still alive is sorta miraculous, lol

@MartyD

Stevie’s answer to Rhett and Link’s life purpose question 😊

@ErikCPianoman

This episode really hammers home the fact there are ppl whose job it is to look after Link and make sure he doesn't hurt himself or anyone else.

@korg47237

I like how Stevie took their 2 points to say Link messed up their right experiment lol

@greta6685

The intrusive thoughts always win for link 😂

@masquinongy4652

Literally 2 minutes in and Link almost burnt the studio down😂

@tavisfrailey4999

I like how Rhett made sure to keep the ink where Link couldn't just grab it for the most part

@cynthiahurry-asoulsearcher729

Laugh of the day. "Link Linked it!" Perfection!

@CBO4evr

You can always tell the holiday break is coming soon as Link becomes more psychotic
