the case for himself JJ McCarthy is other things we learned about the quarterback class at the 2024 scouting combine Peter McCarthy competed and I love that and so did Michael penx Jr those guys competed now JJ's interview there was just part of the whole piece in that he interviewed really well with teams he comes in he is dialed in I mean this is like you're talking about a Pros Pro as far as saying the right things and knowing how to get on the board I was told by one team that he got up on t
he board and was able to dissect things that no other quarterback that they met with could yesterday so that tells you he's got the mentals my thought was all right he answered that question well but this is going to haunt him against Penn State they ran the ball 32 straight times without attempting a pass that's like Jimmy Garoppolo in that NFC Championship game where they blow out the Packers and he only threw eight passes and we held it against garoo like well he only threw eight passes does
JJ have the arm strength that he threw the ball pretty well now he missed a couple I'm not going to come in here and sugarcoat it and tell you he was awesome he was fine the part that I thought was in interesting is he weighed in and he was 62 220 MH I think going in people thought 61200 61 205 so now you're talking 62 220 has lost three times since high school and his entire life and can throw the ball fine and is amazing on the board and is obviously a leader and has done that with a bunch of
Alphas at Michigan it was cool to watch him he was celebratory for everybody at the combine if you see where these 40 It's JJ McCarthy running down and celebrating with him first like I think he had a really really good week um does it make him a Surefire top 10 pick I don't know if he did anything that's gonna say yes put put card right now well that's the thing we're not talking about of course he should be drafted and go on and hopefully have a great career we're talking about him going to th
e top 10 and look we're in an era of of phenoms and freaks physically athletically I kind of want some of that 32 straight times it's not his fault he's not calling the plays but I I think I think he's in danger if there's a comp that that jumps to mind and it's it's AJ McCarron and it's a guy who's a winner and winner and winner and is almost exactly the same size about 62 215 220 and AJ McCarron did not go on to win Super Bowls he had a long career and we love him and everything but that's not
a top 10 pick you fall in love with a guy who wins and there's this oldfashioned thing about winning but like I I don't really remember much of substance about Patrick Mahomes college career I know he put up a lot of numbers Josh Allen's college career no one really saw like I don't really care that much that you won I really don't as a quarterback it's not I don't it's fine I get it I don't think it's irrelevant but like with those guys on the board in top tenant I'm looking at the quarterback
field in the NFL right now I'm like man he won just give me someone who's really athletic do you think it matters how you win in college to the point of like for JJ mccar or AJ McCarron when these guys have first round draft picks around them or for JJ McCarthy you're running the ball 100 times J what was the number 18 different players from Michigan were at the combine yes it was the highest 18 highest ever that's crucify the kid I hate that an awesome guy and I really respect what he did top
10 pick rare air rare air definitely and I was going to talk about Joe Milton because to me like somebody like him you go into combine where you're not expected to be these top guys and you put up some of these crazy throwing numbers how far you throw how hard you throw it it was so impressive and Peter you said it earlier people killed you for posting his 70 yard throw cuz like oh who cares but to me like that's a lot of what the combine is because we're looking at all these quarterbacks and yo
u talked about everybody's a short short fire of Famer nobody really criticized anybody you said JJ missed a few throws but Michael pennick did great B Knicks did great it seemed like every quarterback that went out there and threw the ball we talk about how great of a passer they were how great they looked in the t-shirt and the shorts the three guys that are going to go off the board first probably none of those guys even competed so I look at this and it's like it's fun to talk about and it's
fascinating for these guys to get out there especially to me like a Michael penck junor and show what you can do he's already at the top though so I look at it and you're missing three of the the guys that are the guys but then we criticize a guy like Joe Mel because he threw the ball 70 yards but that's their opportunity when I'm not as high as these other guys I have to Showcase something to try to get in that conversation another really polarizing name I found at least on social media and th
e reaction to his workout was Bo Knicks coming out of that weekend I don't know if it's because the guy played 61 college football games like is it almost like too much of a good thing people were getting on him like oh yeah these routes are fine but just wait until he's like shanding a screen pass it's like don't blame the guy for the Playbook that he was operating with in and he did well at Oregon and he did fine at at Auburn and the growth and the development that this 24-year-old man is goin
g to have and arrive with an experience-wise from the NCAA to the NFL I think is invaluable he had a good day same with kind of same with JJ McCarthy he made good throws he missed some but he had a really good presence about him too and the the way people were kind of ripping B Knicks at times it felt like you go to click on that person's profile it's like oh you are an Auburn fan or organ fan and you just maybe didn't like the fact that he lost a game or to when you didn't want it but I thought
B knck handled himself well too Peter and he he could be a late round or a late first round guy too yeah and he did the Senior Bowl which everyone loves because as far as a competitor I don't think late round I think bonick is a day two pick like I think he's a guy that goes in the second third or fourth round I you know McCarthy we go back to him it's like Giants have the sixth pick Daniel Jones has one more year to prove it obviously like that's gonna be a real for is that too rich six overal
l for McCarthy I feel like I've just heard so many people over so many years say this young man this young man this young man he's a winner he's win I've heard it about AJ McCarron and col McCoy I've heard it about TBO like I don't like that when it comes the first thing that say he's a winner I I understand there's a lot to like sixth overall how about Atlanta eight it's high man it's really high I don't want that big of a doubt that high so the the the overall thought is that in some order it
would be Caleb one and then may and Daniels they all be gone in the top five and then it's this like great unknown for McCarthy pen Nicks Penn all those guys and it's you know Daniel Jeremiah just say we could have five or six in the first round like they are like maybe Nick snicks into the first round McCarthy to me might be the most fascinating because of the chicken in the egg amazing winner amazing decorated career as an individual is he the one that's going to go into a new room and take a
team and lift them and hoist a Lombardi

Michigan stopped throwing against Penn St. because Chop Robinson(you know, that guy you were hyping up for his athleticism at the Combine?) was in the backfield wreaking havoc in the first half. Also, interim HC Moore was at the helm. He went with what worked in that situation - Michigan had the talent to win by running the ball, and that's what they did. Not a mark against JJ at all.

@jamescooper3324

JJ was hurt in that game… watch film, he can throw, he wasn’t asked to because we had such a loaded backfield.

@noone1704

I watched JJ, Penix and Bo Nix this season the most and I would take all off them, they can play for sure

@justinsaunders785

You made me grab my phone just to comment. You do realize the reason Michigan ran the ball on Penn State was 1.) JJ Mcarthy was hurt. 2.) We could and there was nothing they were able to do about it.

@logandye2992

McCarthy had the best feet in the drop backs at the combine. Top tier arm talent, ran a pro style offense, was unselfish, is a leader, accurate passer. The penn state game shouldn’t be an indictment on him, Michigan’s tackles were getting embarrassed. The one negative I’ve seen as a Michigan fan who has watched a lot of JJ is that he has a tendency to try to do too much scrambling around holding onto the ball too long.

@joeshawcroft7121

I love JJ and hope he makes it to the Broncos. I think he's a top 10 pick for sure.

@keithcrook8591

What I learned is teams are talking themselves into being open to taking a project QB in the first round with McCarthy.

@oldarn590

wasn't Coach Harbaugh suspended for that game against Penn St? Did the OC or the HC just want to run the brains out of the offense because that's what was needed to beat PSU?

@matthewjohnson1098

QB is tough. Of course you want a big guy who can run and has a cannon…then you go…Brees, Brady, Manning…list goes on of guys with adequate physical tools but insane intangibles. I think people get hung up on “highlights” when the reality is good QB play is usually pretty boring. One other note…Daniels was throwing to two first round WRs, Penix threw to 3 NFL draft picks. Turns out a lot of good QBs play on good teams with a lot of players that’ll be in the NFL. Why hold that against JJ but not the others?

@srl7997

There was a lot of talk from Michigan insiders, after the Penn St. and through the end of the season, about gow bsngees up JJ was. Especially the second half of Penn St. Hsve to remember, at thhhe time they were without their head coach! If this was out that JJ was hurt, would have been even easier to game plan against. JJ will be an excellent pro. If the Raiders take him at 13, I'd be great with that.

@lebrinjims3580

Joe Milton played at Michigan too. 2-4. Can’t bring him up in the same convo as JJ

@Yesquire0

Milton on the radar gun: 62 mph. J.J. on the radar gun: 61 mph What does that translate to with regards to maximum length for a pass downfield? One or two yards? McCarthy is exactly the sort of athletic freak they were praising, and he finished 4th among all players at the combine in the 3-cone drill, and that includes WR. RB. S. amd CB, not just QB.

@reaganhall4779

He got hurt in the Penn State game

@johngilbert8199

I hope the Colts can pick up Milton late. He'd be great behind AR5. Then, we wouldn't have to change our offense as much if we had to use a backup. Like the Ravens with "Snoop."

@borntobehated1758

3:38 that was sick

@lewistangi8004

Penix looks like the best thrower, but the intangibles, discipline, motivation and everything else will factor in. This qb class is crazy. I would love the Saints to take Pratt, Travis, or (my personal favorite) Joe Milton in the 3rd round if they are available.

@austinshannon4197

I learned JJ MCCARTHY BY FAR DESERVES TO BE THE NUMBER 1 overall draft pick.

@jasonsmith1288

I would love to see Bo Nix get drafted by the Vikings

@cookingwithtory

My favorite thing to look for in a good QB is having a large amount of different receivers they use. Basically do they process the field? Winning is overrated because no one wins on their own. Every great QB has to have talent to win.

@touxiong9372

Doesnt matter what they do in the combine it matters how they play in the nfl
