a group known as the take our border back Convoy is heading for Eagle Pass Texas today the Convoy is convening in the Border Town to stand in solidarity with the state's leadership and its efforts to secure the US Mexico border Eagle Pass is at the center of the nation's border security controversy as the US struggles to handle an unprecedented influx of migrants leaders of the Convoy will call on the Biden Administration to fix the issue at a rally on Saturday CBS News Texas reporter Jason Alle
n is following this for us from Eagle Pass so Jason what more can you tell us about this group how big is this rally expected to be well we're looking to get a sense of that this afternoon as they get here a little bit closer to the Border I want to point out that what you see back here behind me this is not associated with the take our border back group this is actually something that has popped up in opposition to that group as they get closer and I can tell you a little bit more about that he
re in just a minute but reports uh from that group last night as they rallied in Dripping Springs where there was as many as a thousand people there for that rally there was some more star power there in jpen Springs and that's up near the Austin area it's about a 4H hour or so drive from where we are here in Eagle Pass uh former uh Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin was there obviously former Alaska Governor uh musician Ted nent was there they were on stage ramping up the rhetoric a little b
it um but we'll see today just how many people are actually part of the Convoy it's been reported about 50 or 60 Vehicles Which is far from the hundreds or maybe thousands that organizers thought they might have however there have been some people some locals here in Texas that joined that rally last night it wouldn't be surprising to see more locals join them on their way to the Border today and at the ranch where they they are gathering which is just about a 20 minute or so drive up the road f
rom where we are in Eagle Pass well Jason you teased it now I'm going to buy tell us about that group that's behind you because I know that there have been warnings about Convoy particip ipants engaging in violence a league of United Latin American citizens were were issuing that warning just now so what what are you hearing from the group uh that's in opposition to the Convoy so let me address the law enforcement concerns first the the sheriff here in Maverick county has said that they are read
y they have talked to federal and state and local officials they're very aware of the group's route who is with them they don't believe that they have said that they don't believe there are any credible threats right now but they're keeping an eye on it now this group here this is some community members some Faith leaders their main concern as I've been hearing them voice here in just the last few minutes right as we joined you is this combination of people who are against immigration uh people
who are they're they're conflating that with faith um with border security and all of these things combined that's where this group is concerned that it's not just one issue that somebody might be protesting again they said that that's fine if you want to come to our community and be here and respect us okay but it's this combination of issues where they're concerned there may be something that happens and they're trying to say that's what we really want to stay away from over these next couple
of days as that group is here in the area all right we'll continue to watch the situation Jason Allen for us Jason thank you

@seanl7856

You can be sure that local, state, and federal law enforcement are keeping an eye on Americans protesting. However. No concern whatsoever for the millions of people illegally crossing the border.

@maryhorn3829

I live in North Texas and I've been hearing military aircraft flying over this afternoon. Not 100% sure but my guess is the border. Maybe Governor DeSantis could send us some alligators to help slow down the illegal crossings.

@kristanorquist

People r against ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION..... not legal immigration, so use the proper context...

@teresaegger5097

The Dripping Springs Rally was fantastic! The convoy people will NOT cause trouble, even of they do have a problem more than one issue that our government is not willing to take care of.

@davidkarl5192

CBS twists the story as always.

@andrewtomko5545

Let Americans protest for the betterment of our country before it is too late. 😢

@watchmansduty

they are trying to pass rules banning § 2742. Unauthorized private paramilitary activity Unauthorized Private Paramilitary Activity 2741”. H.R.6981 - Preventing Private Paramilitary Activity Act of 2024 “(a) Offense.—It shall be unlawful to knowingly, in a circumstance described in subsection (b), while acting as part of or on behalf of a private paramilitary organization and armed with a firearm, explosive or incendiary device, or other dangerous weapon—b our people are all being set up!!

@ritastonecipher2295

Theyre rallying on private property with prayer and police there at their request. You guys are liars.

@bamafan122

The people are peaceful❤

@TBKN316

Hmm, Texas built a fence at Eagle Pass, and crossing went from thousands a day to single digits. 🤔 Seems like a fence works.

@rw0050

When the Convoy left Dripping Springs this morning heading to Eagle Pass, there was over 250 vehicles making up the Convoy .

@heidihughes7013

This isn't a protest. It's a full-on take our country back stand-off. FLORIDA STANDS WITH TEXAS!!!! MAGA!!!!!

@benanglin1458

Wow! A thumbnail with children. Make sure to avoid showing a real cross-section of 90% young fighting-age males coming in.

@davidhunt8605

If their standing with the Texas governor then their not protesters their patriots. God bless Texas and all of America has your back. Those that don’t let them swim back across and stay.

@DahlinFay

Absolutely Awesome !!! Best news lately! Time to close our borders make our country great again!

@rajnimsg7816

Afa always shows up . Watch out for the wolves and their signature uhaul truck.

@RussellsHouse

Lol CBS is just now telling their veiwers about this. News! 😅

@THEGLASSMANSWORLD

So is it true there is a Diesel shortage coming? Will these truckers become stranded? Are these trucks ALL empty, or is anyone hauling any goods for the US people and economy, while they "Secure" 3 dots along the entire Mexican border? Anyone securing the Canadian border? Y'all know about the Three Amigos Summit treaty signed last year to "Open" borders on paper for Trade Commerce? (Jan 11, 2023) This "Issue" at the Mexican border has been a Staged Event to seem overwhelming and to feel like a lost cause eventually so they can just say it will be more cost effective to simply open up All Boarders for their long awaited plan for the Northern American Alliance. I've watched this plan unfold for over a decade now!

@outbackorchard8224

Wow pretty biased reporting😂
