the annual Indianapolis Boat Sport and travel show is in full swing it celebrates 69 years of all things paddle Sports and boats over 2 days all Indiana contributor Amisha Ramsey takes us on the trip to the Indiana State Fairground hey guys I might not be much of an outdoors girl however I am adventurous and I will go Outdoors so this is something that I'm kind of falling in love with with just kaying uh and we're at the Ford Indianapolis Boat Sport and travel show it's here this weekend and we'
re excited about it because it's one of the largest and it has a lot of stuff here Jean the fuk master has been giving me the rundown on how to get into the boat and different things so he's going to instruct me to get in this water and then we're going to talk to Mitch who's been hanging out over there say hey Mitch hey how it going all right Jean so what do I do all right so you leave your right foot on the okay right foot on this bance you step across with your left foot okay now switch your
weight over bring your foot in swi weight over and then bring your foot in there you go and sit down and a better way would have been to sit down first but you're you got enough balance you wouldn't have to thank you thank you so but if you're an 86y old grandma and you don't have a lot of balance then you might want to sit down first okay so Jean I want to make sure the words are faced me you want to flip over that just lets you know that the paddle right set up and you're going to get the best
efficiency out and what are these there are few some numbers on here to measure your fish okay measure the Cosmetics I love it okay so now we're just we're just we're just going to take our time am I doing good yeah forward a little okay a little forward oh nice I like this oh okay I just bumped the pool all right so Mitch how long have you been doing kaying I know it's been a long times since you're a kid yeah so I mean probably 23 years realistically wow and you weren't afraid to get out on t
he water were you uh-uh no born and like when you just kind of grow up in you know my Dad we took us out sailing as kids so then we'd have kayaks on the sail booat then take off from there and you know we just kind of grew up on the water doing the stuff and it's hey and after 23 years it's it's just as amazing as it was when I first started isn't it it's just so peaceful I like this but you know you can do this on lakes also Rivers Mitch is more a river guy I think I could do a nice Lake cuz it
's not not too many turns or anything on thece and when the ocean is nice enough I've seen people go on the oce with on the ocean so the cool thing about this is if people want to test their own kayaks out or maybe they're looking to get a new one they can come here and test them out themselves yep they can test them out and buy them here at the show and take them home okay so this is a pile up this doesn't look exactly like I'm going to try to get out of this this this mess okay so also Mitch I
want to talk about the cool history of the boat show um your grandpa he started this decades ago yep yep 1963 it actually the show was going on before him he was working part time with them and then uh he offered the guy who was running the show offered my Grandpa the show and my grandpa didn't have two nickels rub together so he got a loan from the cheese curd guy and was able to buy the show from him you never know what you can expect at the Indianapolis Fair um if anyone who is selling chees
e curs would like to give me a loan to open a business that may turn into one of the largest show I would love that that just shows some who your hospitality oh yeah that's right we work really hard at this show we put our lifeblood into it um you know being a family business you know we have that where we care about all of our exhibitors here um we try our best to make it the best for everyone and uh something I take a lot of pride in and I'm glad I'm a part of now how many different exhibits a
re here I mean Ford is one of the biggest sponsors but there are so many different things people can get involved in you know the best way I say is you know we're over 700,000 Square ft of everything outside inside uhhuh so every building has its own theme from travel and tourism to tackle town to boats RVs and then this weekend we'll have the dear turkey waterfall Expo going which one ticket gets you into both shows everything's connected so it's just the ultimate Outdoorsman and family uh show
how cool is that I mean how do you guys outdo yourself I mean it's been so many just years but each year it's it's just different yep absolutely man we work really hard at it it takes all year to put this together and we spend a lot of our time going out making sure we get new exhibitors um keep the quality up we like bringing things like this into the show that are it's not just a static show it's something you can put your hands on have fun with the family you know there's a trout pond for ki
ds um there is a little tiny tot test track uh for kids which is little motorcycles I me there's just something here for the whole family and that you can spend when you come out here and buy a ticket you're not here for just an hour you're here the whole day all right so before we wrap up I'm going to show some of my skills Mitch can you just tell people how long the show is lasting and where they can get tickets yeah absolutely we start today again at Wednesday uh 12:00 and we go to 7:00 all t
