[Music] I'm Arman Sargolzaei and I'm faculty at
mechanical engineering department at USF at this point. During the past several years I've
witnessed that mechanical engineering has been expanded so much so it's not only mechanical
engineering anymore so it's a field that it's a multi-disciplinary and they need to work
with other fields and other majors as well. So, my advice for students is to improve their
programming skills and at the same time they learn more about electrical circuits if
they want to be
successful in the future and also if they want to differentiate themselves with other mechanical
engineers. At RANCS, we are basically focusing on enhancing the quality of life for people
with assuring the safety, security, and privacy concerns through extensive collaboration with
our partners. So, in general we are working on security and autonomy of network control systems,
that's a general purpose of our lab. But, at the same time one of our main focus of our research is
testing verification of connected and autonomous vehicles. So, for this specific like focus area
we are developing our own autonomous algorithms which are resilient and secure. After that, we are
doing testing and verification of those algorithms using reinforcement learning-based algorithms
and reinforcement-based techniques to generate scenarios. We also generate false failures and
attacks in a feedback loop manner to check the safety and security of those connected and
autonomous vehic
les. Our students are working on cutting-edge research projects which have
been funded through state and federal agencies fact that we have Advanced Equipment and
software which our students are working on those and they can gain hands-on experience
while they are working on that. For instance, we have two autonomous vehicles we have a Ford
Fusion hybrid and we have a Mustang electric. They have clean extensively modified, we added all
different sensors GPUs processors and we made them read
y for students to conduct the research. For
instance, they can do and they can test and verify their own algorithms in several different
environments such as software-in-the-loop, vehicle-in-the-loop, hardware-in-the-loop,
and also real-world environments. Go Bulls!
