HOW GOOD IS YOUR ITALIAN? - Travel listening!

Hello everyone and welcome back to a new video. A few weeks ago I made a listening video; listening videos are very useful to understand a little what our level is at the moment in a language, to learn new vocabulary, to evaluate our level of understanding and, in general, to get used to listening to a native person speak. Listening is perhaps one of the slightly more complex parts, unlike, for example, reading, where we read a text and either know or don't know the words. In listening, however,

there is an important factor: it is true that perhaps even there we know the words or not, but there is also the factor of pronunciation and accent. As you already know, the Italian language, like many other languages, is a language rich in accents; we travel from north to south, we can listen to them all and notice a strong difference between a Trentino-Alto Adige accent and a Campania accent, for example. Maybe the sentence that is uttered is the same, but with two different accents. For some

people, the Trentino-Alto Adige accent or the Lombardy accent may be easier, and for others, the Campania accent or the Lazio accent may be easier. The same goes for me when I listen to English: having lived in California for a year, I'm more used to the Californian accent. So when I traveled to Alabama, I could understand most of what they told me, but not as easily as I do in California; I had to concentrate more. This is why listening tests are very important, precisely to get us used to dif

ferent accents, cadences, pronunciations and so on. If you saw the video from a few weeks ago, you already know how this exercise works. So if you want, you can skip straight to the exercise itself. Anyway, for those who are here for the first time, the exercise works like this: I will read several paragraphs, each paragraph will be read three times. The first time, without any text: you will see videos, images, and you will have to try to understand what I am saying. The second time, however, I

will read the same paragraph, but with Italian subtitles on the screen, so you can start to see if the words you heard are correct or not, or even simply start to notice new words. The third reading, however, will be with subtitles in Italian and English; this will give you the opportunity to try to listen again and at the same time understand 100% what was said. I hope that with this exercise you not only practice your listening skills and abilities a little, but also learn some new words. The

theme of the last video was coffee, something that I love, and today's theme will be another thing that I love, namely travelling. It will be a text about travelling, about what traveling represents, about how it works.
