Remake Our Life - Why This Anime's Themes Aren't What You Think

Bokutachi no Remake, aka Remake Our Life. An anime released in the 2021 Fall anime season. For one reason or another, this series had managed to stick within my head, so I decided to make a video essay after a rewatch that I did not too long ago. I'm hoping that perhaps you will give it a watch yourself, and share your opinions down below. #anime #animereview #videoessay

what would you do if you could travel back 10  years into the past maybe get that dream job go to university or maybe bag that girl you had  a crush on 10 years wait no forget that last one get some help for real also she's 14 you  degenerate but jumping back into the past is something everyone's wanted to do at some point  but maybe have you considered you are still you well luckily for you this anime isn't about that  it's about this guy Kya a tiring day exhaustion has hit you seeped into your
muscles and Bones  you turn over stare at the clock it's only 600 p.m. you feel like you could pass out right where  you are a dead end a lost dream you find yourself wondering as you drift off if you can get a  second chance just one more chance then you'd finally be able to do it properly of course this  is just a pipe dream but what if you woke up and you found yourself in the past 10 years ago that's  the premise of remake or life also known as B tuno remake the series that plays in a thoug
ht that  many of us have had in our lives the feeling of just one more chance whether it's a day a  week or even a month if we could do it again we definitely succeed this time so would you  take that chance I wouldn't so I'll need you to stick with me because I'll explain why this series  isn't really about that redoing your life and the feelings of nostalgia plays on are in truth simply  a hook to draw you in it throws you into the day of the protagonist of the series Kya who was in  the very
same boat just fired and having moved back into his parents he stared at an acceptance  letter to the visual art school he had rejected to follow the sensible path of economics without  a job and constantly fac the success of his idols the Platinum generation that had gone to the art  school and were of the same age as him I'm sure you can see the foreshadow in here still even if  he was filled with regrets had missed out on the chance of a lifetime he tried to make his present  work right up un
til he was laid off for the third time back in his old bed with that old letter  in his hand see that's the thing right everyone knows that turning back time is impossible as an  adult Kya is among them searching for different jobs getting hyped for when he could work on  a project featur in the Platinum generation it was the kind of thing he had s the very last job  before his throwing back in time a manifestation of one of his dreams that's one of the Cs of the  series dreams and chasing them
Kya always wanted to be involved in game production to meet famous  voice actors artists writers that's what he had saw enough to quit his well-paying economics job  it's what motivated him chasing off through his idols but life isn't quite so kind changing  careers sitting between temp jobs being laid off he wasn't able to really chase that dream  the capacity he which is a core issue for many of us adults that terrible thing known as risk  When We're Young we have the time to deal with the con
sequences and that's what cure your gain  that day after waking up the extra 10 years to be able to go back to that important choice and pick  the path of going to a visual art school to seize the opportunity he had missed out on because he  took the Practical choice for many people with the dream of starting over this would be the end  everything would go right and it be happily ever after that make a boring story though and none  of us are here for that with a new chance even with 10 years of
production experience C your find  himself humbled again and again the story doesn't shy away from training the hurdles that come with  pursuing our dreams the opening ceremony gave a stark reminder that out of almost 200 graduates  that year only eight managed to get into the roles they studied for and that was considered a high  number it sure sounds familiar doesn't it there are setbacks pepper throughout the show not just  viya but the Platinum generation he admired his other school friends
all of them come together to  chase their dreams but the environment alone just doing some work that alone won't get them to where  they want to be this naturally creates a wonderful seeded for self-d out the natural accompaniment  for Youth and Beyond when surrounded by those who are aiming for similar Heights with talents  you yourself lack characters again and again see doubting themselves their lack of ability to hold  a note skilled and only a single thing lacking money for tuition how much
more skilled everyone  else is around them not having a talent of your own a thousand different things that cut into  their confidence each and every time but that was the catch so magical time travel wasn't really  what it was about it was just an opportunity to get started like a hundred other things in life  could like a trans Mee in a bridge or perhaps a vacation allowed you to dive back into that thing  that you truly love the cor the series is see to that self-doubt the setbacks and hurdl
es that are  placed in their way whether it's together or alone getting over them step by step and taking the  opportunities when they come while continuously acknowledging the fact that trying to take that  opportunity is time to mount to confront in your dreams and any confrontation comes with a risk of  losing it means going out Full Throttle to chase it to make something of that small dream getting  serious about it the more time and effort you put into it the more will inevitably feel worse
when  it all comes crashing down most people can't deal with that and it's only natural since running away  is easier you can always try again next time and so time passes 10 years can go by in a blink you  find excuses and in the end it couldn't really be helped could it an excuse becomes a pattern  and a pattern becomes a habit the opportunity is gone with nothing there to show for it it was two  scenes like this that really made it clear for me what the series is about properly portraying th
e  core themes and two scenes one in episode 5 and the second episode's ending the two of them  cemented just what stood at the core of the series the idea that you should confront it either  way even if you might just lose it's that age-old adage if you try you have a shot of winning if you  quit you lost either way but it's never quite that simple is it to seize opportunity everyone wants  to live with no regrets this is the promise Kya had made to himself to never have any more regrets  to no
longer waste his time you had got an extra 10 years sadly that isn't the case in real life  now is it you won't get the chance to travel back but would you Kyo doesn't have a smooth ride  either he makes mistakes the arrogance that comes with time and youth isn't something that'll  be fixed by simply traveling back in time and boy does he make some mistakes like the mistake of  not subscribing how about fixing that but in truth there's something really special and great about  mistakes it's tha
t you're able to learn from them each one is a brick and the foundation of that  person and this is portrayed clear own fiction H is a prime example of this what he considered  wrong a mistake from the onset was the mentality with which he approached things with that that it  wasn't right to Simply back down or go can't be helped instead he sought and found a solution even  if it was subpar or wasn't the optimal one because he valued the completion but even he realized that  mindset was still wr
ong in his eyes valuing the result far more than the process or what it could  mean for his fellow creators still what I'm trying to say what this whole video is trying to say  is that this anime understood a precept that I can't fully buy into but I think in of itself  is valuable that you take yourself wherever or in this case whenever you go that there'll  always be some kind of circumstance acting as a war and while some hurdles might be far larger  than others the biggest of them will alway
s be the approach the mindset you bear Kya managed to  kick his habit of being a defeatist but instead stepped into codl and his classmates and then he  had to learn to kick that too after getting into a depressive spiral he learned to appreciate the  process far more than the result and eventually that led him to get closer to that dream step by  step in a way that makes a central theme weaker for existing alongside the time travel to do it  all over again instead of exploring his mindset and t
hat his approach was a pure one of changing  his mindset and being considerate but all the same would you take the chance to travel back in time  I wouldn't and I'll finally explain why because going back in time to bag that girl you couldn't  is cringe the only background music you deserve is Sirens drugs aside though frankly and perhaps  the biggest reason well time is kind of the best rocket for you too much fuel and I might just  end up making worse mistakes than before it's easier to live w
ith the knowledge that there's no  red that this is the one shot I've got and maybe I'll be able to walk away somewhat satisfied  but that's easier said than done I'm just some guy you're watching on YouTube and this is my  analysis of the themes of this anime don't take this as some kind of life changing advice but I'll  be glad if you did walk away from this video with something to think about what are your dreams what  do you want to do as for me well you're watching this thing I made so mayb
e I'll consider that  one more step how about sharing your steps down below yeah
