Recently mankind re-discovered the arts of Shamanism. The Shaman’s school of thought believes that every person or object has a soul. During battle Shamans step over into the Netherworld to find and convert the souls of their enemies’ giant battle machines. This tactic enables a single man to overcome an invincibly seeming steel monster. This is the story of Joshua, a Shaman, who is sent on a mission to convert the soul of a giant battle colossus. He does not yet know that the soul is prepared for his coming and that the deadly psychological soul-to-soul confrontation in the Netherworld will be on eye level. (loud crash) (high pitched whirring) (metal clanking) (intense violin begins) (high pitched whirring) (laser shoots) (violin continues) (grunting and screaming) (loud crash) (violin intensifies) (electric jolt) (groaning) (music stops) (long painful scream) (lighter flicks) (suspenseful music) - For thousands of years, shamans have crossed over to the hereafter, the netherworld to find and heal the souls of people. But at the dawn of the 23rd century they turn from healers into mankind's most de
adly weapon. (wind rushing) (suspenseful music swells) (wind builds) (machines zoom) (violin crescendos) (crowd grumbles) (speaker over PA System) (heavy footsteps) (menacing low grumbles) (boots squishing and crunching) (whooshing) - [Man] Don't worry. Everything will be fine the Shaman's here now. - [Woman] When I'm dead, will I be going to the netherworld? - Yeah, we're all going there. - Have you been there? - No. Not me, but my boss has been there many times. (blood curdling scream) - [Woma
n] The Shamans go there to kill the machines don't they? - Not the machine, but it's soul. - Do all machines have a soul? - Yes. Every object and every being in this world has a soul. The good ones, we can convert. The bad ones, we destroy. (wind rushes) - [Woman] Does the Shaman cry sometimes? - (chuckle) No. The Shaman never cries. If he ever did, he wouldn't be ashamed anymore. - Get out of the way. (footsteps) (metal clanking) (melancholy music) (water dripping) (footsteps) (Speaker on the P
A System) (metal clanking) (coughing) (footsteps) (machine whirring) (paper rustling) (futuristic dialing) - [Man] The enemy Battle Colossus is taking a position on the other side of the plane. We've thrown everything we have against it. We've lost nearly 2000 men so far. That's all the information we could gather about it. - [Man] We're going to need a mobile shoot by unit with us. My Shaman has to come as close as possible to the target. Before he transits to the nether world. - [Man] She fire
s loud in five to six minutes max against this monster. - That is all I need. (chair shuffles) - [Man] I always wondered what you guys see over there in the netherworld. Must be pretty weird I guess. (suspenseful inhale) (footsteps) (cards shuffling) - [Man] It's an A type personality. Narcissistic. Probably prone to falling for a mere due flattery. Who tends to over intellectualize. Also tries too hard to understand. Believes the manipulators reason for everything he says or does. That's how yo
u can trick it. - [Shaman] What is wrong with you? - What? - You worry about me. - I worry about your leaked profile. If the machine knows about you, it'll try to manipulate you. (soft emphatic music begins) In all the years I've known you I've never heard you talk about your family, your parents. Is there anything I should know? Can you hear me Joshua? - I can hear you. Do not worry. - I love you my Lord. I would not want to lose you. Not to such a pile of bloody scrap. (whirring and hushed whi
spers) (music swells) (words over PA system) (footsteps) (weapons clanking) - [Shaman] I am alone. If there is a God Why is he not showing his face to me? I would look at him and I would smile. (somber string music) - Once I have crossed over, do not fail me. - [Men] Yes shaman. - Shaman risks his life for you. And you risk yours for him. - [Shaman] (foreign language) Second suite chapter four. - That's too short, the piece is only four minutes long. - That is how I will break it. Trust me. - I
always trust you, my Lord. (music intensifying) Let's go. (footsteps) (weapons rattling) (deep echoing crash) (rushing winds) (crickets) (bombs in the distance) (deep boom) (whirring flames) (indistinct chanting) (lasers blasting) (high pitched beaming) (footsteps charging) (indistinct chanting) (bombs bursting) (lasers blasting) (beams shooting) (footsteps quickening) (lasers blasting) (weapons rattle) (low anticipating music) (banging from a distance) (bombs dropping) (faint whistle) (painful
grunt) (intense music) - My show is over now. (violin plays) (shallow breathing and shuffling) (loud banging and crashing) (wincing and shouting) (lasers phasing) (violin crescendos) (screaming) (loud crash) (music stops) (sudden exhale) (overlapping whispers and chants) (long anguishing scream) - (internally) In all the years I've known you I've never heard you talk about your family, your parents. Is there anything I should know? - (whispered) Who is this? Don't you see him? Who is he? He mayb
e just came here. If she see's him she will kill him for sure. (whispers echo) He's not from here. He walked straight into her trap. (high heels clomp) (echos continue) He has no chance. You will never get out of here. (low humming) (echos crescendo) (whispered) We will watch him die. (Loud crashing) (Violin resumes) (whispers continue) (hourglass slams) - (whispered) He's dangerous. Take his life. - [Woman] Who are you? - [Shaman] You look wonderful. You were far more beautiful than I expected.
You remind me of someone. - Who is that? - (internally) Seduction. Use charm in order to lower the target's defenses. - [Shaman] She was my friend. I was in love with her, yet she never loved me. - [Woman] Do you know who I am? (whispers continue) - [Shaman] Of course, you are the great battle Colossus. (whispers echo shaman) - [Colossus] It's a beautiful day today, isn't it? - [Shaman] (internally) Diversion. Target tries to steer the conversation onto another topic. - I wish it could last for
ever. Time is so short. (whispers repeat) Isn't it? - [Colossus] They increase the price for fruit but you should never freeze strawberries as they don't like it. - [Shaman] (internally) Evasion. Target gives irrelevant responses in order to evade the manipulation. (tea pours) (china clinks) - [Colossus] I know why you're here. You're not a soul like the rest of us. You're a shaman. (whispers continue) But you will not succeed. - (whispered) She has seen men like you. - I've seen men like you. I
've destroyed them. - Good. Then you know why I am here. - You come here to cheat me. (loud crashing and firing) - [Colossus] Oh, by the way, I saw your father. I know about your parents and the way they died. It was a beautiful day like today. Your mother was making dinner. Your father was working from home. That day, you returned to your hometown. You went to your parents' house. You locked all the doors. Then you set the house on fire. They looked at you through the window while they burned t
o death. That must have been terrible. - No was an accident. - No. - It was an accident! - [Colossus] No, that was a choice you made. Part of the shame and education to show your total determination towards your new life. That was a choice you made. - No, I never chose. - [Colossus] Couldn't you just have told them to leave? Disappear? But you choose to obey the order. So tell me shaman, why? Why? (loud booming and crashing) (men yelling) (violin continues) - [Man] Joshua I won't let you die! (m
usic calms) (footsteps) (Shaman yelling) (battle intensifying) - [Man] Don't. Just do this thing and come back. Just do it like what you've been here. (intense bright music) (heavy breathing) - [Man] Come on! Come on! Come on! - (internally) It tends to over intellectualize. Tries too hard to understand. Believes the manipulators reason for everything he says or does. That's how you can trick it. (sniffling) (foreboding music) (footsteps) - [Colossus] Oh, you're back. Your favorite dish is ready
. (Shaman laughing) What's so funny. - (Shaman chuckles) - What is funny? - [Shaman] You believe the story about my parents. What a simple minded fool you are. They're alive. - No, they're dead. It's in your file. You killed them. - You said yourself, I cannot be trusted. We fake my file and pass it onto your intelligence. It will take me only one more minute to finish this here. - You're lying. - Listen. Do you hear the music? (Violin crescendos) Perhaps you are familiar with it. It's certainly
not my favorite, but it is four minutes long which is precisely why I chose it. So tell me, machine why would I choose a piece that is only four minutes long? Why? Why?! Because I knew would take me no longer than four minutes to end you. (bread crumbles) (spits) (intense music drops) - You are dead fucker. (creaking and rattling) (music swells) - I am your servant. I will do as you say. Please, please don't kill me. - Then turn against your God and your commanders and support our troops in the
battle. (house crumbling) (glass breaking) (deep resonating boom) (high pitched scream) (yelling and moaning) (metal creaking) - [Shaman] I killed him. I killed him. (Wind rushing) (somber violin music)

"The Shaman" was created by the fantastic Marco Kalantari and his incredibly talented crew. Be sure to check out film's socials and website to explore and engage with the world more: https://www.marcokalantari.com/shaman/ https://twitter.com/shaman_movie https://www.facebook.com/the.shaman.movie/

@ToddHofer

This needs to be made into a full length movie. One of the most unique plots I have ever seen. Absolutely brilliant!

@rhilianis5811

This is such an original concept, almost didn't recognize that fact. Hollywood should learn from this. 'Shaman' has the makings of a serious box office movie blockbuster. Bravo!

@Fumbleknuckle

To the creators: You have a great story here that needs to be told in it's entirety. A television series or movie trilogy at the very least! Dust: Thank you for bringing this to us! It's truly a unique concept and sparks the imagination on how they got to where they are and where they are going.

@wongduannabamrung7004

How is it possible to make a short movie better than a silver screen, the cinematography, the scenery, the actors, the product, make up, screenplay, director, effects,the idea of this movie you should be at the Cannes festival

@clasqm

This is why I stay subscribed to Dust. Brilliant.

@George-rq2yn

The cinematography is just great!

@aloncr1796

I see many people saying this should be made into a TV series or movie. I say these kind of short films are perfectly made the way they are, and the fact that they're short and concise actually give them part of the magic they contain. I rather think it would be awesome to watch sequels to these kind of short films, where it applies. That would be awesome. Either way, love Dust and all the great creators behind the art they share.

@harveykennett6564

Fantastic piece of work and highly original. Did you notice at the end, the shaman cried out "I killed them, I killed them !". I don't think he was just talking about the enemy troops. He meant his family. Even if his apprentice thought he meant the enemy. Excellent thread left hanging in the air for interpretation.

@popviz3316

Imagine this as a feature length film - Epic!

@maxfaf259

I love the idea that machines have a soul and can be influenced. It would make a great full lenght movie.

@yourwrong6125

This is my favorite short film yet. DUST is everything that the SCIFI channel use to be before it sold out. I love this channel!

@babatundefasugba2719

The machine trying to use the trick the Sharman uses on himself daily😂😂😂

@mishie618

Oh my God. That...was absolutely PHENOMENAL. It was totally riveting, beautiful, the story, the vision, the entire idea could be made into a literal series of movies... the possibilities for this are endless. I'm literally blown away. Wow wow 👏😮👏😮👏

@MikePuorro

There's enough content and mythos here for a full length movie, in fact it feels too dense. Thumbs up.

@stolyartoad8640

I get really strong Warhammer 40K vibes from this and I love it!

@pellyk2022

This deserves a whole movie series

@JoyaLewisTheMusician

The odd creaky movements when the Shaman was controlled by the violin - chefs kiss. So good.

@ertugkaya919

Inception and Matrix taste in only 16 mins movie. Dear Dust, please fund genius Kalantari to make this a full time movie in theaters. Now I'll watch this 5 times in a row to make it a full time movie for myself.

@user-sy8tj9zt9b

One of the best movies from the DUST
