Austria with my old friend Wolfgang in the background yes Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was
born in Salzburg however he didn't stay in Salzburg for very long he moved to Vienna
and thereafter to London and Paris before coming back to Vienna and dying at the age
of 35 you would ask me Samita so this video is about Mozart not quite this video is
about the reason why a small City like Salzburg with a small population attracts
an enormous number of tourists e
very year no prizes for guessing it's The Sound of
Music most of us have seen the movie and some like myself several times let's find
out what's the reality of Sound of [Music] Music The Sound of Music one of the greatest
love stories ever Told The Sound of Music not only captivated its audience with
the story and music it left a lasting impression with its costumes designed
by the legendary Dorothy Jeakins each costume was crafted to suit the character's
persona as it evolved The Sound of
Music was filmed in Salzburg the fourth largest city of
Austria Salzburg literally translates to Salt Castle as a fashion and costume design
academic I am particularly fascinated by the transformation of Maria Von Trapp from a
student nun and a governess to the wife of an Austrian aristocrat the famous gazebo of Sound
of Music where Liesl sings I am 16 going on 17 and Maria and Georg declare their love for each
other is situated in The Gardens of Hellbrunn Palace as you enter the grounds o
f
Hellbrunn Palace you can practically see Maria dancing along the walkway
singing I have confidence in me the movie opens with Maria frolicking in the Rolling Hills of the Austrian Alps
dressed in nun's habits and [Music] pinaphores Maria a student at The Nonnberg
Abbey in Salzburg is assigned with the task of being a governess to retired
naval officer Georg Von Trapp's seven children the Nonnberg Abby
is a Convent Church founded in AD 713 it is a UNESCO world heritage site she presents h
erself to the Von Trapp family
dressed in a frumpy tweet jacket and a pleated skirt her only other possessions
are a hat a guitar and a carpet bag the children and the captain himself
comment on her dress sense or the lack of it Maria makes herself some dresses from
the fabric provided by the housekeeper Frau Schmidt however what stands out
at this point are the dresses she makes for the children from jacquard drapes
this is also a reflection on Maria's Ingenuity and determination she can
even
transform household items into fashion statements Maria and the children explore
the mountains Mirabell Gardens in Salzburg and the City Square where Maria teaches
the children the first notes of [Music] Do Re Me [Music] Maria switched to a pale blue dress with bell
sleeves and Edelweiss print at the grand ball and subsequently when the captain and Maria
declared their love for each other reflects a change in Maria's personality from a carefree
and somewhat rebellious tomboy to a woma
n in love discovering her [Music] femininity when
Maria returns to Captain Von Trapp's house for the second time she is no longer dressed in
a nun's habit but a demure coat [Music] dress other than Hellbrunn Palace much of the sound
of music was filmed at Leopold Skron a rococo palace and its surrounding lakes in the
southern district of the city of Salzburg a grand wedding takes place once the captain
25 years older and Maria find love in each other's arms the wedding scene was picturized
not at the Nonnberg Abbey but at St Michael's Basilica 1 and a half hours away from Salzburg
Julie Andrews as Maria wears a spectacular silk gown as she marries Captain Von Trapp played by
Christopher Plummer the Gown has stand collar long tapered sleeves a raised waist line
and a gathered train the other outfit that deserves a mention is Captain Von Trapp's
eldest daughter Liesl's sheer chiffon dress inspired by the Greek chiton as she sings I am
m 16 going on 17 with her beau Ralph and w
hat's the surprise sheer dresses with billowing
sleeves are ruling the runways in [Music] 2024 the fashion icon of sound of music is undoubtedly
Baroness Schraeder a wealthy socialite engaged to be married to Captain Von Trapp however when the
baroness learns about the captain's feelings for Maria she peacefully breaks off the engagement
and returns to Vienna when the baroness is walking around the garden with Von Trapp she says I do
have the finest couturiers in Vienna highlighting the imp
ortance of couturiers or bespoke dress
makers in European aristocratic Society in the early and mid-20th century the baroness is
dressed in a coral suit with a white polka dots blouse with an oversized bow that sits on the
hip just beneath the cropped jacket the oversized bow and the 3D flower are trending in 2024 my
personal favorite the gold Lame and organza ball gown with an enormous flower sitting on the
shoulder evening dress with Sheer Bolero bead work or lace girl core dresses with f
eminine elements
like lace like oversized bows 3D roses are very much in fashion shapes and silhouettes polka dots
peplum pearls pastel complete the girl core look very much like Baroness Schraeder's [Music]
wardrobe Sound of Music the movie was made in 1965 but the costumes and fashion of Sound
of Music resonate with the trends in [Music] 2024 the other hero of Salzburg as I said
in the beginning is Mozart Mozart was born in Salzburg in Salzburg Mozart is
everywhere in the restaurants on
